TERM 2 WEEK 3 2020 ISSUE 10

HANNAM VALE PUBLIC SCHOOL – EXCELLENCE & OPPORTUNITY

Principal’s message:

We are very happy to see students return to school today and Wednesday in Phase 1 of our return to school plan. Remember school remains open every day for students who need to attend.

In response to the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) guidelines for Primary Schools, Hannam Vale will implement the following measures:

- We have established a drop off zone at the front of the school. We ask that families remain in their car and refrain from congregating when dropping off and picking up their child.

- To avoid congestion (and no-parking zones) 3pm pick up will be spread across 2 locations. Students in K-3 and their older siblings should be collected from the front gate, students in Grades 4-6 can be collected from the Deep Creek Road gate. A staff member will walk your child to the car to ensure their safety. Students who walk or ride to school will be asked to leave school grounds promptly.

- Parents and families should avoid coming to the school wherever possible, staff can be contacted via phone or e-mail. We feel strange about this too as we a by nature a very welcoming school community, but remember this is a temporary request.

- To enable social distancing where practical, students will be divided between 2 classrooms on Mondays and Wednesdays. Desks will be spread across these learning spaces.

- Enhanced contracted cleaning during the school day, provided by the Department is underway. This involves additional cleaning of ‘high touch’ zones e.g. playground equipment, desks, door handles, rails, taps etc

- Students should bring their own drink bottles which can be refilled at the tap but bubblers will remain out of action for now.

- Students will be prompted regularly throughout the day to wash and sanitise their hands. We have plenty of soap and hygiene supplies.

- It is important that students bring their learning from home packs and borrowed school laptops to continue our units of learning.

- If your child is unwell, they should remain at home. Please call the school to advise and they will be marked as absent on the roll. Any student or staff member presenting with symptoms such as a fever/temperature, sore throat or a persistent cough will be sent home immediately

We thank you for taking the time to familiarise yourself with these measures and for helping us to implement them. Students may be feeling a little anxious about returning to school, others will be bursting through the gate with excitement… both reactions and everywhere in between are perfectly normal and understandable responses. Remember as always, we’ll work through all of this together and support your child.

I’ll be in touch with families this week to discuss Week 4 onwards.

Mrs Menzies

In these unprecedented times we’re all being asked to change the way we work and live. Our tradition of putting books into the hands of kids isn’t going to change, but for

Term 2, we're doing things a little differently.

Every child will still have the opportunity to access their Book Club catalogue.

The same carefully selected books will be available, so the enjoyment Book Club is known for will not change! Recommended return-by-date Monday 18th May

https://scholastic.com.au/book-club/virtual-catalogue-1/

All orders will still be delivered to your child’s school as normal.

Magda has restocked the freezer with delicious spaghetti bolognaise. Perfect for the colder days! Meals are $5 each. Let staff know if you would like one on the day and they will defrost one ready for lunch time. Thanks Magda!

Uniforms Wearing her other hat, our Uniform Shop superstar Magda is available by appointment to help you with all your uniform needs.

If you are unable to submit an order form, please text your order to Magda on 0408 090 462.

Principal Note: Winter is now well and truly upon us and this is a polite reminder that students should wear the correct uniform including a school hat, school jumper and plain black or white socks. Spare school jumpers will be available in the classroom. Please also remember to make sure the student’s name is clearly marked on all uniform items. This is the time of year that jumpers are taken off and put back on again multiple times in the day and are prone to being misplaced.
