Events associated with the HANNOVER FAIR -The world’s biggest forum on the future

In a class of its own: with top international speakers from business, politics and science and an exclusive supporting program consisting of special events, workshops, forums, congresses and presentations with close to 1000 talks and lectures, the HANNOVER FAIR is once again the world’s biggest forum for industrial knowledge and business know-how. Hence the motto: “One place to be”.

This year for the first time we are offering a series of events aimed at specific target groups and industrial sectors in the shape of the

Theme Days and Industry Days.

These special events are condensed into one or two days at most. The themes covered are listed here. A more detailed program, which allows you to draw up your own schedule tailored to your particular interests, can be found on the Internet at www.hannovermesse.de/veranstaltungen under “Theme Days and Industry Days” and “Global Business Days” – the platform for international business relations and joint ventures”.

Here you will also find regular updates on any new additions to the program – your guide to the whole of the HANNOVER FAIR and its 11 leading trade shows.

NEW:

At www.hannovermesse.de/suche we have set up an additional search facility for you, which allows you not only to find specific information about individual trade shows, but also to select events according to target groups and industry sectors. So you’ll be able to find all the events that might be of particular interest to you – at any time throughout the Fair.

Graduate mechanical engineers and curriculum reform: Too important to get it wrong!

The system of training for engineers is currently undergoing far-reaching reform. The existing diploma study courses are due to be replaced by Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses by the year 2010. In planning these new courses a number of key questions have to be addressed:

What are the specific requirements of firms in the mechanical and plant engineering sector? What kind of skills will future generations of engineers be expected to offer?

How can those requirements be satisfied in any new engineering syllabus?

What basic conditions are necessary in order to maintain and develop the high standard of engineering studies in Germany?

These and other questions will be discussed by business leaders, senior politicians and academics on the basis of the findings of a recent study which examined the quality of engineering training.

Program: 4.15 - 4.20 p.m. Welcoming address Rudolf Schulze, editor of VDI nachrichten

4.20 - 4.45 p.m. Findings of the VDMA-commissioned study of engineering training: industry’s expectations

Prof. Dr. Eckart Kottkamp, Hako-Werke GmbH, chairman of the VDMA initiative “Engineering training”

Safety engineering for process automation

Industrial processing involves risks that must be minimized through the use of automation. So-called Safety Instrumented Systems as specified in standards IEC 61508/61511 are challenging to implement, but they also open up new possibilities in risk assessment. The ability of users to master these new systems depends on the quality of data provision by system manufacturers.

No product or component is conceivable without the use of materials or material compounds. The development of new, user-oriented products depends on permanent innovation - itself an indispensable prerequisite for sustained high quality and superior design.Materials are a decisive factor when it comes to designing ideal solutions for work and play - and for being successful in the face of tough international competition. Whether it involves reducing the amount of material consumed, employing purely natural materials or developing new, synthetic materials – each product is only as good as its „ingredients“, requiring a mixture of technical precision, haptic accessibility and visual appeal.

GLOBAL BUSINESS DAYSInternational business contacts and joint ventures

Global Business Forum and matchmaking platformHall 6Monday, 11 April to Friday, 15 April 2005

Meeting point for international business contacts and joint venturesGlobal Business Forum and matchmaking forum, in association with the European Commission

In the last few years the Global Business Forum has emerged as a focal point for the development of international business contacts. The Global Business Forum is a winning combination of exhibition, lecture forum and organized contact centre plus matchmaking platform.

The core themes of the exhibition:Concepts and services for establishing a long-term presence in foreign markets. Joint ventures, production, purchasing / procurement, logistics, quality assurance, knowledge transfer, consulting, project development, financing.

The lecture forumThese lectures and presentations are a valuable source of information and practical knowledge for the development of international business contacts and joint ventures. The lecture program puts the spotlight on lucrative markets such as Eastern Europe, Russia and China. The Wednesday of the Fair is set aside for the international Buyers’ Symposium.

New matchmaking platform – joint ventures are your gateway to new markets and foreign sales opportunities.

Exhibitors and visitors will benefit for the first time from a new matchmaking platform at the HANNOVER FAIR, which is being organized in conjunction with the Euro Info Centres (EIC) in Stuttgart, Luxembourg and Berlin, as well as through the European network of EIC consulting centres, as part of the project “b2fair – European Business Cooperation” promoted by the European Commission.

Working in conjunction with the network of the European Commission, the HANNOVER FAIR brings exhibitors and visitors together at the show to discuss concrete cooperation projects.

When clients register with the matchmaking platform, they describe the type of contacts they are looking for in the area of foreign trade and international collaborations. On the basis of this information the teams at the EICs and the HANNOVER FAIR then put together precise profiles of possible partners for interested exhibitors and visitors. In the run-up to the HANNOVER FAIR appointments are made for exhibitors and visitors to meet their “possibles” at the show for one-on-one talks.

Why matchmaking at international trade fairs? A simple method for promoting and optimizing business participation

Within the economic globalisation worldwide and an everincreasing competitive pressure, one of the most important tasks nowadays is to foster the internationali-sation process of small and medium-sized companies by assisting and supporting them in finding potential partners on foreign and emerging markets. This information seminar aims at illustrating the advantages of the practice of strategic alliances by using the facilities offered by the infrastructure given at a professional or sectorial trade fair. Germany as industrial trailblazer –What potential for innovation does German industry still have to offer?

Where does German industry rank in the international league table? Are German companies capable of making their mark in vital key technologies? Which technologies are seen as the key to future growth? And in which areas can German firms set the benchmark? These are the questions that every small and medium-sized firm has to ask itself today. In our panel discussion at Hannover Fair 2005 we aim to offer some answers. SCOPE has invited leading experts in the automotive industry, automation, micro- and nanotechnology, biotechnology and medical engineering to discuss the future of German industry here in Hannover. So if you want to know which sections of industry will be at the technological cutting edge in which markets, and where German companies will figure in the scheme of things, don’t pass up this opportunity. Hear the experts give their own personal predictions, make your own contribution to the open debate, and use the information gathered here to inform your own business decisions. LIBYAN BUSINESS FORUM Convention Center (CC), Room 1B Tuesday, 12 April 2005, 10.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m.

Doing Business in Libya

In parallel with the opening-up of the country since the start of 2004, a comprehensive program of national economic reform has been set in motion in Libya. Because of its oil and gas reserves, the country has very substantial financial resources – and it lies on Europe’s doorstep. The changes that are taking place, both internally and externally, are opening up new opportunities for foreign firms operating in Libya, as well as for other firms that are planning to return to the country or to gain a first-time foothold in the Libyan market. In short, the international business world is heading for Libya in droves. In the past many German companies were also successfully engaged in key sectors of the Libyan economy, including the oil and gas industry and commerce. The current need to modernize in nearly all sections of the economy creates good opportunities for German companies, including newcomers to the market, especially since Germany enjoys an excellent reputation as an economic partner.
