It is hard to believe it is already the middle of April. I hope you agree that we have had a wonderful 2016-2017 school year and I can assure you we plan to work extremely hard in

the upcoming weeks to finish the year strong!

There are a number of reasons that makes Hansen special, and one of those points is our focus on meeting the individual needs of all learners. We do this through the Multi-Tiered

Systems of Supports (MTSS) framework.

Our teachers administer regular short assess-ments called common formative assessments where they utilize that data to make instruc-tional decisions, which includes: creating stronger lessons for all students based on what they need, creating intervention groups for students who need re-teaching on a skill, and also build enrichment lessons for stu-

dents who have mastered the skill.

We feel so fortunate to work in this incredi-ble school and community. Thank you for

your partnership and support!!

May 1-5 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Thanks for taking time to say “Thank-You” to our amazing staff that work so hard for your

children.

We are beginning to gear up

for the 2017-18 season of Lego

League! Students can sign up

to parcipate in the K-3 or 4-8

teams. The official season will

not begin unl next fall, but we

encourage families with inter-

ested students to register early

so that we can plan for teams

Above: Hansen 6th grade students had the op-portunity to visit Sartori Hospital, one of our partners in educa+on. Students toured different parts of the hospital and learned about careers in the health care field.

Hansen students have been

busy with mul+ple music per-

goes out to all the music edu-

On March 24, Iowa Director of Educaon

Ryan Wise and Iowa Teacher of the Year

Sco Slechta toured Hansen. Student lead-

ers showcased different projects and inia-

ves that they’ve worked on throughout the

year. Our guests were able to witness stu-

dents using the green screen to create a pro-

ject, observe during MTSS me when stu-

dents receive differenated supports, and

ask students quesons about our building

culture– including what it means to have

case the awesome work happening at Han-

sen each day!

sending layers to wear outside

on cool mornings. Please also

consider sending sneakers

with your student if he or she

is wearing flip flops or sandals.

Our goal is for students to be

comfortable so they can run,

jump, play, and have fun!

As the weather warms up and

the sun is shining, we are

working to keep the learning

going strong. We keep kids

focused in the classroom by

taking fun breaks (like recess!)

for our bodies and brains. You

can help your student make

the most of these breaks by

We were thrilled to have so many

moms join us for our Muffins with

Moms event on Monday, April 3. Our

best esmate is that we had approxi-

mately 500 moms and students join

us for this event. Wow! We were

delighted to show our appreciaon

for the support you provide to our

Hansen students both in and out of

school on a daily basis. Thanks for

everything you do, moms!
