Happiness in a watcHThe newest ladies watch in the Danish watch brand Obaku’s collection is called ’Lykke’. ‘Lykke’ means happiness in Danish. Although the Danes lost their spot as the world’s happiest people to the Dutch last year, Obaku is putting out this watch in the name of Happiness.
Zen philosophy and Danish design“Who doesn’t need a good dose of happiness”, asks Obaku brand director, Henriette Arvin, rhetorically. “Perhaps the watch will not actually make you any more or less happy, but it may remind you of a happy moment or the person who gifted it to you. Ideally it will remind you to live in the moment every time you glance at it”. The name Obaku stems from a branch of the Zen philosophy, where the aim is to rid your life of anything unnecessary and focus on the essentials in life. This philosophy of a clean mind goes hand in hand with the Danish design traditions, although they hail from different parts of the world. Both lines of thought honor simplicity, which is the focus in any Obaku watch design. Obaku’s slogan is to ‘Feel the Moment’ and recently the brand has started naming their watches to give them more personality. “When we give our watches names, we imagine we are on a raft in a lake in the warm spring sun”, says Danish brand director, Henriette Arvin. “We imagine we are right there – feeling the moment. The names of the watches all reflect what we can see, hear or feel in that moment”.
Petite watch with sparkly SwarovskiIn this newest petite ladies watch from Obaku the Swarovski elements sparkle subtly in a single row on the lugs extending from the case. The mesh bracelet is fully integrated into the case and pops out as a continu-ation of the watch. The watch comes in three initial color versions and range from $179 to $199.
