I wish all fathers a Happy Fathers Day

Who is a father A father is a person who

has concern and love for others a person

who inspires and encourages others a

person who shares and cares a person who

makes a difference in the life of others his

family his community God created each

man with these qualities

A father begets children and pours out his love upon

them by providing material spiritual and moral

encouragement His sacrifices are remarkable and

many Often he feels he has not done enough for his

children

We are all in one way or another a father This is the

experience of all of us even those who are not parents

We as the disciples of Christ express our love for the

people in our families communities and parishes We

help our parish community financially and by giving

our time and talents We see it here in the many

ministries of St Philip Our parish is a family of love

We all receive this fatherly love and in receiving this

love we are also sons In other words as we beget

good in this world each one is a father and at the same

time when receiving fatherly love from others a son

Our faith begets spiritual children Being a father

either physically or spiritually is a gift from God The

exercise of that gift calls each one of us to walk in the

fatherhood of God God is the life giver He sustains

life by providing for our needs by giving us the

opportunities talents and above all by inspiring us to

understand how great his love is He showed us this by

giving us his only begotten son Jesus Christ who said

ldquoThere is no greater love than to lay down ones life

for ones friendsrdquo (John 1513)

I have experienced Gods love abundantly in this

parish People have prayed for me brought food gave

gifts and monetary help Many invited and included

me in meetings family meals birthday celebrations

parties and trips I have received many greeting cards

letters of encouragement and appreciation I have felt

On this last Friday and Saturday June 19 amp 20 we

celebrated the Feasts of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

and the Immaculate Heart of Mary These two

beautiful feasts remind us of the love Christ and the

Blessed Virgin have for us They remind us we are

never alone and can always seek consolation within

these two beautiful hearts

It is through the Immaculate Heart of Mary that we

are purified and healed so that we may

approach the Sacred Heart of her Son and

our Lord Though all Gods healing stems

from himself He desires us to learn from the

heart of Mary how to be true disciples of the Lord and how to

love with an undivided heart All Marys love was directed to

God and the family she was a part of her heart always united to

the heart of her Son She directs us to do the very same

surrendering our selfish love of self and the world to love what

truly matters God

In the Heart of Christ we find the unending mercy and love we

so desperately desire and seek It was through his blood that we

were washed clean and through the sharing of his body and

blood we are strengthened

Let us surrender ourselves to these two beautiful hearts so we

may be united to them for all eternity in Heaven God Bless

We pray for young fathers newly embracing their vocation may they find courage amp perseverance to balance work family and faith in joy and sacrifice

We pray for fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering may they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow

Currently a registered nurse with St Thomas Health Rebecca is pursuing a Masters in Theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville with the intention of combining medicine and theology The daughter of Ron amp Pat Thompson she has been involved in many ministries during the 27 years her family has attended St Philip including two trips with Mission Honduras
