graduated from USC and are still loyal Trojan fans. After college Jeanette was in merchandising

and John was in sales and marketing. Both of them are Lutheran and they have a son and daugh-

ter. They are grandparents to two girls and three boys, and great grandparents to a girl and two

Dr. William Lama, Physicist: “The Story of the Uni-verse.” Topics include: Creation from a space-time singularity; the Planck era, when gravity was as strong as the nuclear force; the Inflation era, when space ex-panded faster than the speed of light; the Quark era, before the formation of nuclear particles. “And all that in the first second; come to learn what happened next.” The story of the universe is filled with drama and won-der! Bill Lama earned a PhD in Physics from the Uni-versity of Rochester and taught Physics in college for 20 years while also working as a researcher in the in-dustry. He then joined Xerox Corp. as a Lab Manager. Bill began having fun with Physics after retiring, when he had time to delve more deeply into its foundations. Please sign up.

[Palos Verdes Estates] Join us for lunch at the PV Golf Club: “The Mediterra-nean style clubhouse, with unsurpassed views, under-went an $11,000,000 renovation in 2007 restoring it to its 1924 design with an understated yet elegantly ap-pointed early California interior. While the golf course has long been referred to as “a hidden gem”, the new clubhouse, designated a Historical Building by the Pa-los Verdes Historical Society, has now earned the same distinction.” We’ll have smaller, separate tables for residents to sit at. Peninsula Senior Lectures Wednesday, October 19th, 10:00 AM

[Hesse Park] JJ’s Sunset Syncopators will present a nostalgic reprise of popular songs from long ago with tales of the people who created them. The JJs, in this version of the long-running local group, are Jim and John. Jim Jones pre-sented a popular twelve-year series of song-and-story programs at Miraleste Library. A retired engineer and corporate owner, Jim plays banjo and guitar, and sings and emcees for three local orchestras. John Brunac will provide piano accompaniment and solos for the songs. A native of San Pedro, John is classically trained on five instruments, was an elementary LAUSD teacher for decades and is a retired longshoremen. Please sign up.

[Hesse Park] Back by popular demand, former D.A. Bob Schirn will fascinate with his detailed accounts of the nine murders committed by Charles Manson and his “family” in Au-gust 1969. He will discuss the facts of the crimes and subsequent prosecutions. Bob Schirn graduated from

Beverly Hills High School, Princeton University, and UCLA School of Law. In 1967 he was hired as a Depu-ty District Attorney for the Los Angeles County Dis-trict Attorney's Office; in 2005 he retired as a full-time prosecutor and was immediately rehired on a part-time basis to handle special projects for the Office.
