What`s New at the La Mansion Inn
December 2012
The magnificent Cousteau Suite is the newest
addition to the La Mansion Inn’s suite inventory and meas-ures no less than 100M2 with a large bedroom, living room and separate dining area with space to spare for an extra queen size bed should this be necessary. The suite’s bath-room measures almost 4x4 meters (150 square feet) and is
equipped with a ”His and Her sink”, state-of-art Jacuzzi with two shower heads. The modern bathroom is also equipped with one additional shower and fully conforms to Costa Rica’s law on handicapped access. Located right of the parking lot, lobby and restaurant, the Cousteau Suite is conveniently situated for elderly or slightly handicapped persons and extremely secure while still providing a partial ocean view. As with all of the La Man-sion Inn rooms and suites, we provide room service and have 24 hour access to medical staff should this be necessary.

Harry Bodaan Owner
As owner of the La Mansion Inn I
wish to thank you for your support and for
your business. When I opened the three-
star La Mansion Inn in 2000 in time for
the turn of the Century I never envisioned
the success of our little boutique hotel. As
we are about to enter our 13th year of op-
eration the La Mansion has grown from
the original 10 rooms to 18 deluxe rooms
and 7 magnificent suites and three years
ago we achieved five-star status thanks to
a wonderful and professional staff. It was
not always easy to operate a hotel in the
jungle of Costa Rica especially after being
used to the fast pace of life in Washington
D.C. and Moscow and living here is the ab-
solute oxymoron to the life that I was used
to. However, after 17 years in Costa Rica I
think that I am well integrated of all as-
pects of living here. Besides a hands-on
approach to managing my hotel I also
serve as President of the local Chamber of
Commerce, Industry and Tourism and am
deeply involved in the social-economic wel-
fare issues of our area. Once again, I would
like to invite you both as owner of the La
Mansion and as President of our Chamber
for a visit and to bring you up to date on
what’s new at my hotel but also what is
new in our Canton de Aguirre and what we
are doing collectively to make a difference
in our area. Your business is important not
only to me but to our entire Canton.

La Mansion Inn host 40th Anniversary GALA
Manuel Antonio National Park
The Gala
Dinner hosted
by Harry Bo-
daan, owner of
the La Man-
sion and Presi-
dent of the
Chamber of Commerce, Industry
and Tourism of the County of
Aguirre on November 15th 2012 in
honor of the 40th Celebration of the
National Park was a roaring suc-
cess. More than 100 people attended
the cocktail party and 50 were lucky
enough to enjoy the dinner festivi-
ties. The GALA event focused on
the proud history of Manuel Antonio
National Park and participation in-
cluded members of the Chamber of
Commerce, Industry and Tourism of
the Canton de Aguirre, members of
the Chamber’s Environmental Com-
mittee, local government officials,
Central Government officials, Na-
tional and International law En-
forcement Officials, the Media and
three of the five surviving Park
Founders.
The Gourmet Menu was a se-
lection of local foods with Banana’s
Foster for dessert and a Special La-
bel Wine selection benefitting local
charities (the original bananas used
by Chef Paul Blanche of Brennan’s
Restaurant in New Orleans to create
the famous Bananas Foster came
from our area when Quepos was still
a Banana Port).
Entertainment and back-ground
music was provided by local talent
and consisted of Marimba players, a
Quartet of Violins and the now fa-
mous Costa Rican singer Roger
Morales who stole the hearts of most
everybody in attendance. The not-
soon-to-be forgotten GALA ended
with a Carnival, a large 40th Anni-
versary Birthday Cake and Cham-
pagne. All those in attendance were
given a complimentary souvenir in
the form of the night’s Special Anni-
versary Event Schedule. For a com-
plete pictorial of this GALA and
other events please see our La Man-
sion Inn Face Book Page.

Our Staff
What makes us so different is our staff. While this
might sound as a cliché, the fact is that Costa Ri-
cans are very warm and lovable people and operate
best when “left alone” without layers of managers
looking over their shoulders. Most guests do not
realize that there are no specialized Hospitality In-
dustry educational facilities in this country and the
closest we have is called the I.N.A. which is a kind
of training center where hotel workers can take
classes in waiting tables, bartending, housekeeping,
front desk and accounting. Most of these courses
last only a few weeks or mostly a few months. Most
hotel owners such as myself spent years training
staff and mostly from scratch. I am very happy with
the fact that the average tenure of my staff is al-
most 8 years. Many of my senior staff I take on trips
outside the country to see for themselves the way
the hospitality industry functions in other coun-
tries. Managing people in a country like Costa Rica
is unlike any other more developed country and lots
of patience is needed because of strong cultural dif-
ferences and different customs. One will soon learn
that you better get used to the “Tico” way soon be-
fore your business goes under. Part of the success of
the La Mansion Inn has been to involve our staff in
the entire operation and explain why we will do cer-
tain things before we actually do them. By getting
the entire staff involved in the operational aspects
of the La Mansion and constantly explaining where
they fit in, we have been able to maintain, with the
exception of this year, a 70%+ occupancy for the last
11 years despite the world economic crisis. Next
time you visit with us engage our staff in conversa-
tion and find out for yourself what makes them
“tick” and how different their sets of values differ
from what you might be used to.
Dear Friends,
Give a a special gift this Christmas. Adopt a sea turtle, and give it to one of your loved ones. With this magnificent gift you will also help the conservation of these wonderful animals, through Pretoma. All adoptions include two pictures, a sea turtle hand-made necklace and a certificate with the information of the adopted sea turtle. For a reasonable amount, you can help sponsor our sea turtle monitoring and migration rese-arch, essential to establish efficient conserva-tion measures. For only US$50 you can adopt a sea turtle we tagged with external metal tags on its fore flip-pers whilst monitoring nesting activity in any of the 5 beaches that Pretoma protects with local community members (Corozalito, Bejuco, San Miguel, Costa de Oro and Caletas). If you want to help more... For US$500 you can adopt a sea turtle tagged with an acoustic transmitter during our in-water monitoring projects, either in Cocos Island National Park or Punta Coyote, in Guanacaste.
For US$2500 you can adopt a sea turtle tagged with satellite transmitter, and follow its real-time movements
