Senior ExcursionDirty Dancing

The Classic Story on StageSHN Golden Gate TheaterWednesday, February 24

“SPECTACULAR MUSIC AND BREATHTAKING DANCE NUMBERS! THE STAGE VERSION PROVIDES A LEVEL OF EXCITEMENT AND ELECTRICITY THAT CANNOT BE MATCHED ON FILM.” - DC Metro Theatre Arts

“IT’S IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO HAVE FUN AT DIRTY DANCING.” - Chicago Sun Times

DIRTY DANCING - THE CLASSIC STORY ON STAGE is an unprecedented live experience, exploding with heart-pounding music, passionate romance, and sensational dancing. Seen by millions across the globe, this worldwide smash hit features the hit songs “Hungry Eyes,” “Hey Baby,” “Do You Love Me?” and the heart-stopping “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life.” London’s Sunday Express says, “This crowd-pleasing stage adaption wins the jackpot.” It’s the summer of 1963, and 17-year-old Frances “Baby” Houseman is on vacation in New York’s Catskill Mountains with her oldest sister and parents. Baby discovers her own entertainment when she stumbles upon the staff quarters where an all-night dance party is in full swing. Mesmorized by the raunchy dance moves and pounding rhythms, Baby can’t wait to be a part of the scene, especially when she catches sight of Johnny Castle, the resort dance instructor. Baby’s life is about to change forever as she is thrown into the deep end as Johnny’s leading lady both on-stage and off with breathtaking consequences.

Join Friendship Circle Wednesday, April 6 Visit the deYoung Museum in SF forOscar de la Renta & Bouquets to Art

Begin our museum visit with a docent guided tour! Oscar de la Renta is a world premiere retrospective of la Renta’s work, celebrating the life and career of one of fashion’s most influential designers. The exhibition includes more than 130 ensembles produced over

five decades, and is presented in collaboration with the house of de la Renta and the designer’s family. Thematic sections will trace de la Renta’s upbringing in the Dominican Republic; the rise of his career in Spain, where he gained his first commissions; his formative years spent in the world’s most iconic fashion houses; and his eventual role as a designer for many of the most influential and celebrated personalities of the 20th century. André Leon Talley, former American editor-at-large for Vogue magazine, will curate the exhibition. His depth of knowledge and

lifelong friendship with de la Renta will provide an unmatched perspective on the designer’s career. La Renta’s company is opening its archives to illuminate both the breadth and depth of the designer’s work. Additional pieces will be drawn from the designer’s personal collection, private lenders from around the world, and the Fine Arts Museums’ costume collection.

Lunch: After our docent guided tour, join your friends for a no-host lunch in the onsite museum cafe. You are also welcome to bring your own brown bag lunch and enjoy it in the Music Concourse, just outside the museum (between the Academy of Sciences and the de Young.) You will need your admission ticket to reenter the museum after lunch.

After lunch, take a self-guided tour through the renowned exhibit that brightens up the deYoung for only five days out of the year: Bouquets to Art features flower arrangements in relation to fine art, from Peonies and Picasso to hydrangeas and Hockney! Experience floral arrangements by some of the most innovative designers in the Bay Area (and beyond) who are inspired by works from the permanent collection and the architecture of the de Young.

Cost: Members $55 per person; Guests $70 per person. (Includes transportation, snacks, museum admission and tour.) Reservations: Limited to 50 passengers.
