QOS CHRISTMAS PARTY 1st DECEMBER 2008

HELD AT THE AUDITORIUM, MT. COOT-THA BOTANICAL GARDENS

QOS Members, Representatives from Affiliated Societies, Other Societies and Special Guests attended our Christmas Party, travelling from near and far, 132 people in all.

Apologies were received from our Patron, the Hon. Anna Bligh MP., Premier of Qld., who extended Christmas Greetings and hopes for a great 2009 to all of our members.

The President, Christene Dennis, presented the yearly benching prizes to members; a list is elsewhere in the Bulletin. The main prize for Judges Choice Hybrid for 2008 was won by Margaret Tierney and for Judges Choice Species this was won by Gary Yong Gee.

Lucky door prizes of wine and chocolate were won by Gary Shishkin from TAPS and Allan Alvis from QOS.

A QOS Award was presented to Ron Greinke for Sc. Royal Beau ‘Rebecca’ HCC 78 points. Congratulations Ron.

The Mini Show covered a few tables with exceptional quality orchids. Congratulations to the overall winner, QOS & Redlands Orchid Society member Frank Williams with a beautiful example of Den. chrysotoxum var. swanissum.

Images of winners of the different sections in the Mini Show appear elsewhere.

Photos of the winning orchids Judges Choice Hybrid and Judges Choice Species for each month of the year were on show. Everyone at the party was asked to vote for their own choice. The majority of counted votes were in favour of Phal. amabilis ‘Ben Yu’ AM- AOC/QOS 2008 owned by Graham McKay. This orchid had been benched at the August general meeting. Congratulations Graham. After the main meal the rolling raffle began, starting with four hampers each with a ham, fifteen buckets of goodies, hams, wine and other gifts, also plenty of good sized orchids. The four hampers were won by Rosa Muellegger, Diane Walker, Rodney Pendelbury and Kev Baker.

Once again the Christmas Spirit prevailed and friendships were renewed and new friends were made. Everyone appeared to enjoy the food and drink, plenty for everyone. Special thanks to those members who helped prepare the meal and to those who donated dessert. Your efforts were much appreciated.

Regards and Best Wishes for the Festive Season from the President Christene and Committee.

Maree Illingworth Secretary QOS
