OUR TREE OF REMBERANCE
AND GROWTH
The tree adorned with leaves of two colors, silver and gold.
Each colored leaf has their own purpose and meaning.
Silver leaves are, engraved and placed in remembrance of a loved
one, a family member, or someone special to you.
The gold leaves are engraved and placed for members, non-
members, businesses or institutions that have contributed to help
pay for the mortgage on the building addition.
The final cost for the addition was about $125.00 per square foot.
The tree is located in our new addition on the entrance wall.
Both colored leaves are $125.00 each, which includes the cost of the
leaf, engraving and shipping.
When you look at the tree, you will notice how the “leaves” have
filled in the branches and how well our tree is growing.
This is a perfect time to make a leaf purchase to be a part of the
growth of the tree and the Center.
Order forms are available at the front desk.
If you need more information or have any questions, feel free to call

GETTING TO KNOW YOU by Doris Hoover
The Ides of March are upon us: March is the third month of the year, has 31 days, the month when spring officially begins with the promise of warm sunny days. Debra Annette Simms also brings the promise of warm, friendly days to the Frederica Senior Center. She is a two year member and has a deep fondness for the hours she spends with this community of friends, enjoying the activities, the noontime meals, and the sociability shared. During the game night sessions, al-ways will you find Debra playing Wii Bowling and dominating the championship ti-tle. Bingo games are another favorite and volunteers her services during the daily activity.
Debra was the seventh child born to James and Gertrude Simms on the 29th day of September, 1958, in Bronx, NYC, NY. She has seven brothers and four sis-ters. She was unfamiliar with her father during her childhood and unfortunately her mother passed when Debra was at the early age of eleven years.
Debra was a student at PS #107 elementary school and graduated from the Dodge Vocational School in the Bronx. A remarkable accomplishment for a young child who was alone from the age of eleven. When her mother died, Debra totally took care of herself, staying with friends and attending school. A school venture she will never forget is a “kids group” trip to Watertown, NY with other students.
Debra never held a job, never worked. She was diagnosed with Epilepsy expe-riencing severe seizures at the age of eighteen. Seizures are more common than you might think. Seizures can happen after a stroke, a head injury, an infection or another illness. Many times, the cause is unknown. Debra is fine today, living in Frederica. She has three children, (one boy and twin girls) and five grandchil-dren. Occasionally, when school is closed for the day, she will bring her youngest grandson to our Center.
Debra’s favorite color is blue. She has no favorite restaurant but without doubt enjoys chicken wings. She says she can eat chicken every day prepared eve-ry which way. Clint Eastwood and the old movies are at the top of her list for enjoy-ment. She is especially fond of the old western flicks. In her spare time, Debra en-joys working the word puzzles and crocheting. She never enjoyed a vacation but has a secret desire to visit Florida someday.
“Be kind. Pray to God every day” are her words of advice. Debra is a calm and silent individual with a BIG sharing heart. In addition, she is a brave and spirit-ed woman. Please express your cheerful hello to this lady.
Debra Annette Simms is here everyday, enjoying a chat or two with friends sitting at the first table in the dining room.
