Vol. XXIV

Issue 3 Extra April, 2015 EXTRA ADDITION

We all agree, Tammy and

Lew Flowers and all the

March rally hosts know

how to “party.” As the

rally room at Jellystone

Yogi Bear Coyote Ranch

was transformed by the 45

RPM records and inflata-

ble guitars, saxs, key-

boards, bongos, and mi-

crophones that were sus-

pended from the ceiling,

hung around the walls and

centered each table, we

were transported back to

the 50’s. Each night of

activities prepared us a

little more for the 50’s

‘flashback.”

Early arrivals (about 30 of

us) enjoyed a meal and

fellowship at Golden Cor-

ral on Wednesday even-

ing. Some arrived as early

as Monday in anticipation.

The generous arrival bags

were distributed by Don

Kinnamon and Randy

Plant.

But the kickoff was the

bountiful and delicious Pot

Luck Dinner on Thursday

evening. Too many won-

derful dishes to describe

by a group of great cooks.

The hosts provided the

bread and the fresh straw-

berry shortcake.

Tammy’s 50’s Trivia round

robin was the featured

evening event. Each per-

son completed sheets of

Trivia on the 50’s Artists

(musicians), History, Mu-

sic, Sports, Celebrities,

and TV. All at the table

moved as a group to the

next topic table. Top win-

ners (I think) were Sandee

Garrelt, Rod Cleavlelin,

Phala Clough, Frank Ta-

ber, Sandy Taber, and

June Guess. Each winner

was rewarded with a choc-

olate bar. It’s just amaz-

ing what the mind remem-

bers about Great Balls of

Fire, Bobby Darin and San-

dra Dee, Jerry Lee Lewis,

Guiding Light, Rock Around

the Clock, Richard Burton,

Joe DeMaggio and Little

Suzi.

Biscuits, sausage, gravy,

fruit, juice and coffee

warmed up the group on

Friday morning. Following

breakfast, an impromptu

craft session was shared

by Erika Moore when she

taught several how to make

fabric wreaths for a candle

holder as she had done for

the Red River Rover rally.

The rest of the day includ-

ed much visiting and some

excursions to town. Spring

was just emerging in Wichi-

ta Falls and things were

just beginning to blossom

and green.

Scrumptious spaghetti,

Back to the 50’s

Back to a time of Blue Jeans,

Bobbie Socks, and Poodle

Skirts… Yes the April Rally

was a chance to relive the

good times of the 50’s.

Here is Sandy Taber, Beth

Plant, Tammy Flowers, Erma

Wise, Lois Stagner, and Nor-

ma Hamel dressed in their

finest 50’s fashions.

This is an Extra Edition of

the April Newsletter. There

is not a registration for the

May Rally in this addition.

Instead it will come out in a

May Newsletter after the

April Rally. I needed to get

the March story in and it

would make to long of a

newsletter if I included it

with the April story.

If you missed the March

Rally you really missed a

great time. It always im-

presses me the way the

hosts always seem to

come up with terrific ideas

to entertain us each month.

By the way, we still need

two hosts for the October

Rally that will be held in

Carthage, MO. So if you

have not signed up to host

this will be your last chance

this year!

salad, bread and mini chocolate

cakes nourished us as we settled in

for our Friday evening of lively 50’s

Karaoke. The host group began the

event by playing the inflatable instru-

ments as they sang. You will all

probably remember Davy Crockett,

16 Candles, Yakety Yak, Purple Peo-

ple Eater, That’ll Be the Day, Wake

Up Little Suzi, Catch a Falling Star

and a few more.

Ed Wise, Randy Plant and Don Kin-

namon manned the griddles as each

person prepared their own omelet

ingredients from the wonderful Ome-

let Bar on Saturday morning. The

“just right” omelets were enjoyed with

biscuits, sausage and fruit cups.

Tommy Team was persuaded to

show off his granddaughter’s wooden

rocker that he made while in Arizona

this winter. Many also enjoyed see-

ing Rita Team’s extraordinary silver

and stone jewelry that she crafted.

Rita also announced that a couple of

hosts are still needed for the October

rally. The Messner’s volunteered to

help host in September. So if you

are available, please email Rita

Team. President Don Kinnamon an-

nounced that Jerry Messner has vol-

unteered to serve as our Devotional

Leader. Everyone expressed appre-

ciation.

Frank Taber announced that the

Coaches for Christ chapter will have

a rally in the Wisconsin Dells prior to

the FMCA Rally in Madison, Wiscon-

sin in late July. If you would like to

attend the rally or join Coaches for

Christ or be included in their e-

connect, contact Frank Taber for ad-

ditional information.

The Saturday evening 50’s finale

Sock Hop was started with Randy

Plant and Don Kinammon grilling

Mesquite smoked burgers on the pa-

tio outside the rally room. There was

a generous supply of the Mesquite

available on the property. Delicious

burgers and hot dogs, all the fixings

and chips fortified us for the

evening’s music and dancing. The

Coke floats were the best! But Carl

and Phala Clough also set up their

popcorn machine and kept it popping

all through the evening. Great treats

for those of us warming the seats

and only watching.

The Hop began with hosts dancing to

Tammy. Tammy and Lew encour-

aged others to dance by selecting

new partners. Many joined in includ-

ing the Cleavelins, Garrelts, Wises,

Smiths, Messners, Flowers, Curtis’,

Van Horn/Ingrahams, Teams, Stag-

ners, Hubls, -- to name a few. Sev-

eral reprised the Stroll including June

Guess, Norma Hamel, Lois Stagner,

Beth Plant, Tammy Flowers, Marvin

Curtis, Maggie Neu and Rita Team.

If there had been a dance prize, we

are all sure that Tyler and Billie

Smith would have earned it. They

were a hit!!

The Costume Parade included Lew

and Tammy Flower, Rita Team, Jerry

and Jerri Messner, Virginia Van

Horn, Billie and Tyler Smith, Erma

and Ed Wise, Charlene Sasser, Lois

and Gilbert Stagner, Beth and Randy

Plant. Bottles of Coca Cola were

presented to the six runner-ups.

Grand Prize Gift Bags were present-

ed by the Judges Dennis and Erika

Moore to Charlene Sasser and Gilbert

Stagner.

Our Sunday morning send off began

with pastries and a devotional bless-

ing shared by Jerry Messner. He be-

gan by telling of the catastrophic

event in 1984 where their home was

flooded. His message tied the house

built on a firm foundation to our obli-

gation to follow Jesus as our Lord and

Master for our foundation for our lives

as we follow his teachings. Lavonna

Kinnamon led the morning’s musical

praising from hymn booklets she had

selected and prepared and that will

be available for each rally. A great

way to end our March rally in Wichita

Falls, TX.

OUR MARCH HOSTS

Tammy and Lew Flowers, Beth and

Randy Plant, Gilbert and Lois Stag-

ner, Don and Lavonna Kinnamon,

and Ed and Erma Wise looked as if

they had been transported from the

50’s for the sock hop on Saturday

evening. The guys wore dungarees,

loafers, white T-shirts (with the sleeve

rolled up to carry their pack of cigs)

and their hair greased back. Not to be

outdone, the ladies either wore their

saddle shoes and sweaters atop poo-

dle skirts with scarfs at their necks or

a necklace showcasing their beau’s

class ring or rolled up jeans and their

Enjoying the karaoke time that was held

on Friday evening are several of the mem-

bers as they follow along to the words on

the TV screen.

If you look carefully you can see Gilbert

Stagner is “jammin” to the tunes.

MARCH RALLY PARTICIPANTS

Joe and Vera Bouse, Rod and Ginger

Cleavelin, Carl and Phala Clough,

Marvin and Chris Curtis, Tillman and

Mary Frizzell, Jim and Sandee

Garrelts, June Guess, Norma Hamel,

David and Elizabeth Hubl, Jerry and

Jerri Messner, Dennis and Erika

Moore, Tom Murdoch, Earl and Mary

Powell, Ben and Charlene Sasser,

Tyler and Billie Smith, Dick and Hellen

Stickle, Dan and Von Stogner, Joe

and Lois Sturgil, Frank and Sandy

Taber, Tommy and Rita Team, Carl

and Delores Threlkeld, Frank and

Cyndi Timchak and Maggie Neu, Kin-

namon’s granddaughter. We enjoyed

the company of several guests.

Bruce and Sue Siebert, friends of Carl

and Dolores Threlkeld stopped by as

did Red River Rover friends of Dennis

and Erika Moore, Joyce and Ken

Daugherty of Mansfield, TX. Jerry

and Kay Murray, guests from Colora-

do who came down from visiting their

children in Edmond on their way back

home called about attending our rally

after seeing the listing in the FMCA

magazine.

D. A. AWARD PRESENTED

Several seemed to deserve the nomi-

nations for this award as Award Chair-

man Earl Powell called for nomina-

tions. Several individuals provided

stories about themselves and their

motorhoming predicaments. Among

those were Dan Stogner giving his

awning a “boo boo” and also a flat tire

on his tow care as he prepared to

leave for the rally; Dick Stickle repair-

ing and replacing his awning motor;

Ken Ingraham crunching his coach in

a Walmart parking lot; and Frank Ta-

ber laying ruts in the campground. But

Earl Powell’s parking brake issue

which made tire ruts in his gravel

driveway while the coach blocked

the road in front of his house as he

left for this rally earned the top hon-

ors this time.

HELPING OUT

You are probably expecting to see

something about volunteering to

host a rally. That is a great way to

help and all those who have signed

up are greatly appreciated. But in

addition, our chapter has always

had members who help others with

repairs, checking things out and

just lending a hand. Some of our

“established members” who always

helped have moved on to other

things, and it is just amazing how

we still have so many who will al-

ways offer to help. Thanks for all

the help you have given to our

members just because helping oth-

ers is a regular component of your

characters.

SOUTH CENTRAL VOLUNTEERING

March 28- April 2 is an added time

of volunteering for fourteen of our

members who serve as Officers or

Captains or Lieutenants for the

South Central FMCA Six State Ral-

ly Association. They participated in

a planning meeting to set the stage

for the 42nd Rally on October 6-10

in Conroe, TX. Frank Taber is the

South Central Treasurer, and he

and Sandy also attended the Officer

Planning meeting in Conroe in Janu-

ary this year.

Frank and Cyndi Timchak are our

Ambassdors to Conroe and will be

telling our chapter about the plans for

the rally and the sights to see(and

places to eat) in the area when our

chapter attends the Conroe rally.

Some are continuing in their assign-ment; others are new to their posts.

Rod Sartwell is in his last term as Rally Master and SRA Senior Vice-President. Ethel Sartwell serves as Timekeeper for all the Host Volunteer

chapter members and Sandee Garrelt is joining her in that job. Leroy Hinderliter is in his last term as Seminar Captain and Jim Garrelt is

joining him in the position. Earl and Mary Powell are preparing the Pro-gram Book and the Rally Day News papers. Sandy Taber and Ginger Cleavelin are arranging all the Craft

Projects. Rod Cleavelin is now Sign Captain and Frank Timchak is work-ing with him for all the variety of signs needed to provide information and

direction at the rally. Cyndi Timchak is serving as the Golf Captain for the Golf Scramble and is also Quilt Cap-tain for all the quilts contributed by chapters and the demonstrations and

Quilt Social. Lois Hinderliter has changed to assisting in the Door Prize and 50/50 drawing as she helps her new captain. In addition,

Jerry Slutz serves on the Bylaws Committee.

What would a Happy (OK) Wanderers

rally be like if not for the great food

served by the hosts.

Pictured is Tom Murdoch, Ed and Erma

Wise, and Lois Stagner.

Check out those “funky” decorations

hanging from the ceiling!
