1. VB Series PLC: An Overview1-1 VB Series PLC Key Features

To be used as an indicator lamp for the input, output status of a controllerTo be used as an LED display showing numeric, characters and figures subject to users' requirements and preferences.A multi function display can be used to display a machine's status as an error message, a program's processing, etc., which, incorporated with the DAP-100 setting panel, would further become a parameter modification unit.

Combined systematic functionsThe maximum program capacity allows for 8K Steps, using Flash ROM storage programs, without replacing batteries. To be expanded up to 256 I/O points. To provide encryption, where intellectual properties can be duly protected. An expansion card with real time clock can be fitted additionally where a timed, periodical automatic control is needed. The master embedded a with multi-function display shows information in an instant, convenient manner.

Perfect communication functionsThe master integrated with the RS-232C standard interface can be directly connected to computers, Human-Machine Interfaces, and graphic control systems, as well as perform remote program compilation and modification through a MODEM. Communication expansion slots can be installed with a RS-232 or a RS-485/RS-422 communication expansion card, at its option, to perform various communication functions, such as Computer Link, CPU Link, Easy Link, MODEM Communication and RS Instruction Communication, etc.The master has a telephone dialing function, which may perform status reports and data collection remotely through telecommunication networks.

Diverse models meet a variety of control needsThe master offers more optional models from 14 points to 32 points. There are all-inclusive types of expansion modules including 4 IN/4 OUT module, 8 IN module, 8 OUT module, 16 IN module, 8 IN/8 OUT module and 16 IN/16 OUT expansion unit, providing complete expansion functions.Offering two I/O connection modes of terminal blocks and connectors. Providing two types of power input: AC 85V - 264V and DC 24V.Output type options: Relay, NPN Transistor, and PNP Transistors.Input types: Sinking/Sourcing sharing mode.To be incorporated with more special function modules like analog input/output, temperature input, position control.

Program Writer Slot (1st COM Port)

Used with a USB Type-A connector for programming purposes.

Program Writer Auxiliary Slot (1st COM Port)

Used with a JST 2.0mm connector for human-computer interfaces and graphic control systems.

Completely parallel linked with prongs of the USB Type-A connector of Program Writer Slot, only one

can be used.

Communication Expansion Card Slot

To be fitted with VB-232 or VB-485 communication expansion cards.

Before installation, remove securing bolts on the upper left side first, insert a communication expan-

sion card, and then screw the securing bolts.

Remove the type side panel on the left while installing VB-485

The function of a JST 2.0mm 4-pin socket on the communication expansion card is comparable to

that of the program writer socket.

D9080 while D9081 becomes the auxiliary register. Data is displayed with a decimal system; only

effective numbers are displayed while the data exceeds the display range. Should the data be

negative, the data will be displayed as a positive number.

For instance, when the data in Mode 3 is K-32767, the display shows 2767.

Display Content

Display Mode 0: I/O ON/OFF Status Display

SW1-2=ON (display messages)

D9080=K0 (Mode 0)

The display shows the I/O ON/OFF status.

This mode is used in combination with other modes, so as to be more flexible.

For example, the I/O ON/OFF status is shown permanently under the machine, and Mode 2 of

Error Code is displayed when any discrepancy occurs.

Display Mode 1: Display of Number, Character and GraphThis mode assigns D9081 to be the indicator register. Its content value Kn directs the indicator to

Register Dn. The data content (16×8=128 [bits]) of 8 registers, Dn - Dn+7, will be displayed in bit-form

on 128 LEDs of the display.

(Mode 1)

(displays the data content of D100 - D107)

indicated as 201F in a hexadecimal system

The font in the example is 5X7. For more information on alphanumeric data, please refer to Appendix A.

Approach to displaying information for the LED display:

1. First of all, list the strings that are to be displayed and direct the content value of D9081 to the

heading position;

2. Then, increase the content value of D9081 with a regular time interval (e.g. 0.2 Sec); and

3. Exhibit the listed strings in LED-form on the display.

Display Mode 2: Display of Error Code This mode assigns D9081 to be the indicator register. Its content value Kn directs the indicator to Register Dn. The lower three digits of Dn will be shown on the right side of the display, and the character "E", shown on the left side, indicates an error code. Please refer to the following example for details.

Display Mode 3: Display of A Four-digit (0 - 9999) Numeric This mode assigns D9081 to be the indicator register. Its content value Kn directs the indicator to Register Dn. The lower four digits of Dn will be shown on the display. Please refer to the following example for details.

Display Mode 4: Display of Two Two-digit (0 - 99) Number This mode assigns D9081 to be the indicator register. Its content value Kn directs the indicator to Dn. The lower two digits of Dn will be shown on the right side of the display, and the lower two digits of Dn+1, on the left side. Please refer to the following example for details.

Display Mode 5: Display of A One-digit Alphanumeric (0 - 9, A - Z or a - z) and A Three-digit Number (0 - 999)This mode assigns D9081 to be the indicator register. Its content value Kn directs the indicator to Register Dn. The lower three digits of Dn will be shown on the right side of the display, and an alphanumeric specified by b7 - b0 of Dn+1, on the left side of the display where the decimal point specified by b10 - b8 of Dn+1 flashes. Please refer to the following example for details.

This mode can be applied to a multi-data display where the data title is shown on the left side and the data content is shown on the right.

Indicator Register for the table of data titles. Its content value Kn directs the indicator to Dn, where Dn is the heading register for the table of data titles and the length of the table is determined by D9083(L). Each register in this table can designate a data title, the position of its decimal point, and the data attribute (R/RW).

Indicator Register for the table of data contents. Its content value Km directs the indicator to Dm, where Dm is the heading register for the table of data contents and the length of the table is determined by D9083(L). Each register in the table can accommodate three digits of numeric data (0 - 999).Register for the length of the table. Its content value KL designates the length for the table of data titles and the table of data contents.Register for task indicator. Its content value Kp (=K0~K[L-1]) designates the length for the table of data titles and the table of data contents, and displays its corresponding table content on the display.

4. Number, Specification and Routing of Input/Output4-1 Input/Output Number and Precautions for Expansion

All models of VB Series Main unit (VB0-14M....VB2-32M) occupy the I/O address of X0 - X17/Y0 -

Y17; the I/O address of the first expansion module will be aligned from X20/Y20.

Special modules do not occupy the I/O address while VB-8XY will occupy 8 points of input and 8

points of output.

Instructions on the condition related to I/O expansion

VB Series PLC's Main unit and expansion units themselves are provided with power supply for

circuits which is also the power supply that expansion modules and special modules depend on. The

number of modules can be expanded from the Main unit and the expansion unit is specified as
