Fact Sheet

Harding Place Sidewalk, Pedestrian Improvements Project

About Phase 2 • In addition to today’s announcement, Phase Two of the Harding Place project is on track

to build an additional 3,000 linear feet (just over half a mile) of sidewalk and pedestrian improvements from Tampa Drive to Interstate 24.

• Preliminary planning, design and environmental studies for this phase are already underway. Construction cost of Phase 2 is estimated at $2 million, funded by Metro.

More about Phase 1

• Project includes construction of new sidewalk, curb and gutter, pedestrian crosswalks, pedestrian signals and a pedestrian bridge over Seven Mile Creek.

• Harding Place is a densely populated corridor that includes a public transit route and bus

stops, multiple apartment and condominium complexes, retail centers, churches, restaurants, a hospital and an elementary school, as well as established neighborhoods that will greatly benefit from these pedestrian enhancements.

• The improvements will provide a safer path of travel. Currently there is no sidewalk along the corridor except at either end (at Nolensville Pike intersection and near the I-24 interchange). Pedestrians travel either along the roadway edge, narrow roadway shoulders or other less than favorable pedestrian conditions.

• TDOT Enhancement Grant funds ($1,961,000) will allow Public Works to build 4,600 linear feet (almost one mile) of sidewalk on the south side of Harding Place between Nolensville Pike and Tampa Drive. Metro’s portion of the construction cost is $491,000 (20 percent). Total estimated cost of $2,452,000 is for construction only. Metro will fund preliminary planning, environmental, design and right-of-way acquisition costs. Public meetings will be part of this process.
