LADY

Layered clothing is a simple concept, which allows you to make quick adjust-ments according to activity level and weather changes. It is especially relevant when hunting in cold weather, where your clothes have to transfer moisture,

provide warmth and protect from wind and rain – all at the same time.

This is what identifies the three layers:

Base layer (also known as inner layer or first layer)Worn next to your skin, keeping you dry and

comfortable by drawing sweat away from

your skin.

Mid layer (also known as insulating layer)Helps you retain heat by trapping air close to

your body. Should be more loose fitting than

the base layer, though still remain in close

contact with your base layer in order to

obtain the best possible moisture transfer.

Outer layer (also known as shell layer)Worn as your outermost clothes, ideal to

block wind and water while remaining

breathable. Without proper ventilation,

perspiration can’t evaporate but instead

FOOTWEAR FOR HUNTING

Footwear is the foundation for the good hunt. Not only is the comfort and temperature of the foot regulating the rest of the body, but the hunting experience is also dependent on the ability to go

through the terrain as easily and silent as possible. Härkila footwear is made ”by hunters, for hunters” in every detail and below we have highlighted three of the details, that makes Härkila footwear

so suitable for hunting.

Bottom insulationIn the midsole of Härkila boot you will find

the highly insulating and lightweight

material EVA. EVA is a material made from

microscopic plastic cells but consists mostly

of air. Not only does this make EVA very

light and shock absorbent, it also provides

great insulation due to the thermal effect

created in the air holes in and around the

plastic cells.

Furthermore EVA features sole mapping,

where the sole is divided into zones adapted

for specific hunting styles. The EVA sole can

have extra soft comfort zones as well as rigid,

stabilising zones.

Flexible heelHärkila boots feature a heel notch, which is a

very flexible area in the heel of the boot. The

heel notch provides flexibility in the shank

enabling you to assume a new position

silently and comfortably. And you will avoid

cramps when crouching.

Variable lacingHärkila boots feature a lace locking system

enabling you to tighten the lace in different

ways around your foot and leg. For instance

you can choose a tight lacing around the foot

and a lose lacing around the leg, which is the

most comfortable solution when walking in

the woods or in flat terrain. Or you can

choose a tight lacing around the foot and the

leg for walking in demanding and rough

terrain e.g. mountains. Here a tight lacing

around the leg is preferable to avoid getting

lactic acid in your lower leg due to lack of

oxygen.

BODY MAPPING”Body mapping” is a principle of functional clothing design based on the heat regulation of

the body. By using different functional materials in selected zones of the clothing the inso-

lation, breathability, moisture transportation or drying time can be improved locally. This

way every piece of clothing is designed for a specific kind of hunting.

A light and breathable material on chest and back will release excess body heat while an

insulating material around the abdomen and lower back will keep your body temperature

comfortable in this part of the body.

Different fabrics inside the garment improve your comfort.

Water coloumn pressure 1,3 meters

Not all waterproof membranes are created equal. Membranes can be

categorized as waterproof if they can keep water out at a water col-

umn pressure of 1.3 m. But not all “waterproof” membranes are good

enough for hunting. In fact, you expose your clothes to a water

column pressure of 2.0 m, when you sit down and an even greater

pressure when you sit on your knees.

GORE-TEX® materials can withstand a water column pressure of 28.0

meters and are more than 20 times as waterproof as the international

standard requirements.

Hunting is an action sport that can require you to sit or lie on a wet

surface for a long period of time. Therefore we only use waterproof,

breathable GORE-TEX® membranes in Härkila clothing.

CAMO BOOTS FOR STALKING

APPROVED BY GOREHärkila boots are tested and approved by GORE for 100% waterproofness and optimal breathability.

1. WATER TEST IN WALKING SIMULATOR Materials used – leather, sewing thread, shoe laces – must be waterproof, since any water absorbed will travel towards the boot’s edge

and at worst into the footwear. The materials are tested in GORE’s Walking Simulator, where the boot is placed on an artificial and flexi-

ble foot fitted with sensors. The boot walks 300,000 paces in a water bath; this corresponds to about 500 km, and materials are tested for

both water resistance and leaks.

2. BREATHABILITY TEST IN CLIMATE CHAMBERFurthermore, the footwear is tested for breathability and foot climate. In GORE’s climate chamber the boot is placed on an artificial foot

that sweats like a real foot, and moisture transpiration through the footwear is registered at different temperatures.

3. MEMBRANE TEST IN ROTATION CYLINDERHärkila also conducts our own membrane test directly from the production line. Here the boot is filled with water and placed in a metal

cylinder that spins at high speed for up to 60 minutes. The water is pressed against the boot’s outer shell which reveals leaks. Härkila

tests 2 % of the daily production at a minimum and faulty boots lead to immediate correction in production.

MATERIALS

Tech Wool. Crease-resistant material in a combination of wool and polyester. Stronger and lighter than pure wool – without compromising the warmth and softness of wool. Tech wool is used for inner layer clothing because it quickly transports moisture away from the body.

Actiwool. Climate control with a combination of natural and man-made fibres. Insulating and moisture transport-ing wool-based material that keeps you dry and warm.

Genuine leather. Leather is a warm, durable and breatha-ble natural product. For our men’s clothing collection we use the tough buffalo leather, and our ladies collection uses the soft and light sheepskin.

Wax Finish. The material is proofed with a thin layer of wax that makes the surface soft and the material more water resistant, windproof and durable.

Premium European Cotton. High quality soft cotton. Does not shrink.

Woolmark. The worlds best known and respected textile fibre brand. Guarantees the use of 100 % pure wool in the product.

Woolmark Blend. This logo indicates that the product contains 50%-99% new wool.

Lambswool. Lambswool is a high quality wool charac-terised by being especially soft. Lambswool has all the excellent qualities of wool: insulating, durable, dirt resist-ant, stretch etc.

Mulesing free. We only use Mulesing free Merino wool. Mulesing is an atrocious method aimed at avoiding mites in the sheep’s’ skin.

Bamboo. Bamboo fibres are breathable, quick drying and counteracts body odour.

YKK zip. Renowned for its stability and robustness.

Hollow fibre yarn. Man-made fibres, produced with hollow fibre technology. The fibres are hollow, which increases their insulation capacity. Furthermore, the material is soft and light.

GORE-TEX®. Waterproof, windproof and breathable mem-brane in a very high quality. GORE-TEX® GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY.

WINDSTOPPER®. Combines complete wind protection with outstanding breathability. You stay comfortable with fewer layers and less bulky clothing.

The com-pound satisfies the tough requirements from Ross cold flex at -23˚C and the NFPA requirements for firefighter boots.

the same durability in a lighter boot. Of course, Härkila boots also come in durable and insulating

natural materials such as nubuck leather, full-grain leather and extra breathable suede.

Shoe laces are important in terms of insulation and comfort. This is why Härkila‘s lacing system

comes with movable lace holes, strong lace lock and hooks. For hunters who like to be able to tie

their boots quickly, the Boa system provides a smooth lace-up with a few turns of the simple

closing mechanism.

Orthotic fit™Specifically designed for wider feet with a tall instep. The

roomy designed toe box allows a snug fit, resulting in very

good walking properties. This is especially important in

hills/mountain areas where you need to keep maximum

focus on every step. The boot will secure you with ulti-

mate control of movement.

Bio-performance fit™A tight fit like a running shoe, but still with a straight big

toe area for ultimate walking properties. It fits most feet

INSOLEThe insole ensures dry and comfortable

feet, optimal fit and the correct foot angle.

At Härkila we work with an adjuster and a

sole. The adjuster is an insole that insulates

and increases comfort. It may be inserted in

the boot when only a thin sock is needed to

maintain the optimal fit.

We use two high quality types of molded

insoles:

• Ortholite® insoles are among the world’s

best. Shock absorbing gel pads and extra

stability for heel and arch. Moisture trans-

porting, breathable and counteract foot

odour.

• Härkila footbed™ insoles have shock

absorbing gel pads at heel and forefoot

and extra stability for the heel and arch.
