Gathering Prayer from the Iona Abbey Worship Book L: Eternal God, maker of the skies above,

Lowly Christ, lover of the earth and its people, Unfettered Spirit, Giver of gracious gifts,

All: you are present among us.

L: O hidden mystery, sun behind all suns, soul within all souls, in all we touch, in all we meet

All: you are present among us.

L: As bearers of your image, we come to be reshaped; dependent on your mercy,

All: we ask to be made new.

Silent prayer

L: For the right roads we avoided travelling, and the kindly words we refused to share; for the false gods who received our worship and the true selves we have starved of love God, by your grace,

All: forgive us

L: For the hidden hurts we have held too tightly, and the promises which we never kept; for the careless use of our time and money and the lame excuses we should never have made, God, by your grace,

All: forgive us.

L: For all we should be and all we can amend, God, in your love,

All: renew us

L: For all you have in store for us and all you may ask of us, God, in your love,

All: prepare us.

L: For the life of the world and the love of earth’s people, God in your love,

All: commit us.

L: Hear and trust these words of Jesus: Your sin is forgiven

Lord’s Prayer A commonly used form is printed below. Please use the version most meaningful to you. Let us pray with words and in the spirit of Jesus: Our God, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever. Amen.

July special offering: University Area Sanctuary Coalition. These funds help provide sanctuary and they also provide a variety of supports for our immigrant neighbors—legal counsel, medical care, and help with other basic needs. We urge you to give electronically by visiting our website, www.firstchurchmn.org and clicking the link to our donations page, or by texting 612-255-4109: “$(amount) Special.” You may also give by check. Please make checks out to First Church with “Sanctuary” in the memo line. Thank you! How would you like to connect, give, serve and grow as part of First Church this year? Thanks to everyone who attended our all-team ministry meeting last Sunday. If you were not able to attend, (or even if you were) please fill out this super-fast (two-question) survey to let us know which ministry team or teams you will commit to be part of for the coming program year at First Church! You are welcome to join more than one team. Take the survey by clicking here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MGQJBWM Our ministry teams are: Congregational Care, Worship, Faith Formation, Hospitality & Engagement, and Justice. Join Lisa Keitel in a “Listening” gathering! In slowing down, stopping, and listening, you may find hidden wonders, peace and relaxation in the world around you. In a park, in your neighborhood, or in your own backyard and out your window. Please join Lisa for a time of purposeful listening outside in some of our parks and natural areas. She will be out twice a month July through October on the second Saturday of each month at 10a and third Thursdays at 11a. The location will vary, but this month’s gatherings will take place at Cold Water Spring, at the southern end of Minnehaha Park. We will meet right near the handicapped parking area. You may drive in to drop off your lawn chair, then go back to the paid parking all along the roadway. There will be short walk on the paved road to the meeting site. (Let Lisa know if the walk will limit your participation; she can give you a ride from your car to the meeting area.) For directions: https://www.nps.gov/miss/planyourvisit/placestogo.htm Please bring a lawn chair (or let Lisa know if you would like her to bring one for you.) We will be set up to insure appropriate social distance. Please bring a sun hat or umbrella for shade, and bug spray might be helpful. Sign up by emailing Lisa at: [email protected]. In case of rain, the gatherings will be cancelled. Need a listening ear? Befrienders are trained in the ministry of listening. They are available to walk with you in difficult times like these, when you are facing illness, grief, crisis, and life change. Contact Jane McBride to learn more. Pastor Jane’s typical work week is Sun.–Thurs. Please call or email her to set up appointments as she is in and out of the office. She hopes you will contact her for support and prayer in times of illness, hospitalization, or crisis. If your need is urgent, please call or text her cell phone at any time of the week.
