  • Can counselling be of help to you?The counselling we offer is about enabling aperson to feel more in control of their lives and tomake changes which had previously seemed notpossible.

    People come to HCC in order to addressemotional, personal or relationship problems.

    These include: Lack of confidence Difficulties in sustaining relationships Bereavement and other losses Physical illness Difficulty in expressing feelings Loneliness Psycho-sexual problems Depression Stress at work Anxiety Lack of clear aims in life Issues relating to abuse Anger Life Coaching Couple Counselling

  • The services we provideSessions are 50 minutes. Individual, open-ended, once weekly

    psychodynamic counselling Individual, time-limited psychodynamic

    counselling (12 weekly sessions with an agreedand specific focus)

    Individual CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)counselling

    Couple counselling Telephone/Skype counselling Mindfulness

    Our CounsellorsOur Counsellors are fully trained professionals.We do sometimes have part-qualified Counsellorswho are in training.

    Opening TimesCounselling is available Monday to Friday from8.00am to 10.00pm at the Centre.

    ConfidentialityHCC provides a confidential setting. You are freeto talk safely, without fear or rejection, criticism orblame. No information will be disclosed to anyoneoutside HCC without the clients writtenpermission, except under certain rare legalcircumstances (e.g. Child Protection).

    Good practiceAll our Counsellors work to professional Codes ofEthics and Practice. Copies of these codes and ourcomplaint procedures are available on request. Wehave an Access to Records policy and comply withthe Data Protection Act. We are committed to anintercultural approach and to equal opportunity.HCC is a member of the British Association ofCounselling & Psychotherapy.

  • Sometimes we are unable to helpPeople who are dependent on drugs or alcoholsometimes approach us. Since we are not aspecialist addiction agency, we ask clients to seekspecialist help for addiction before contacting HCC.

    Making an appointmentYou can contact HCC yourself - you do not need to be referred. Just call the Office on 020 8423 8454 or alternatively email us from ourwebsite to make an appointment for an initialconsultation. The office is open Monday to Fridaybut, should no one be available to answer yourcall, messages may be left on our confidentialanswering machine or you can call the mobilenumber provided.

    Assessment appointments are made within 5 working days. You will be sent a letterconfirming your appointment and a personalquestionnaire which you are invited to completebefore you come. Your completed questionnairewill help us prepare for your initial consultationand will be treated in strictest confidence.

    The initial consultation takes about 90 minutes. An experienced assessment therapist will explorewith you your needs, your expectations, issuesrelevant to your application, and whether theservices we offer can help you. The therapistwhom you see for the initial consultation may notbe your counsellor for subsequent sessions.

    Following the initial consultation we will consider thebest way forward and contact you with ourrecommendation. Occasionally we will need furtherinformation or require you to have a second, morespecialised assessment. If we think that our

  • services cannot provide the help you need, we willsuggest alternatives wherever possible.

    We aim to start your counselling as soon aspossible. You can help to speed things up by beingas flexible about times of availability as possible.

    The cost of services at Harrow Counselling CentreHCC is a non-profit organisation committed toproviding affordable services. We therefore operatea sliding scale of fees. We try to set a fee that takesinto account your financial circumstances, whilstcontributing towards the realistic cost of ourservices. The fees are discussed and agreed withyou. All fees are reviewed annually.

    For the initial consultation A fee of 20 is charged if you are unemployed andon benefits, 30 if part-time or on a pension, or afee of 50 is charged if you have an income.

    A fee of 50.00 is charged for couple counselling.

    For ongoing counsellingSingle SessionsThe minimum fee is 15 per session and themaximum is 80.

    Couple SessionsThe minimum fee is 40.00 per session and themaximum is 100.00

    Payments for missed sessionsYou will be expected to pay for missed orcancelled sessions, except for those cancelled by the counsellor. This enables us to maintain yourregular appointment time for the duration of your counselling.
