Next Thursday (10th October) we are holding our Harvest Celebration at Christchurch at 1.30pm. We would like to invite you to join us for this event. Please look out for a separate letter coming home soon with more details. We will need parents to help us walk the children from school to Christchurch at about 1.15pm. Over the past couple of weeks we have been reviewing our book presentation expectations, and we have made a few small changes regarding the use of purple pens rather than purple pencils, and how work is set out in books. I also wanted to bring to your attention some changes to the ‘pen licences’ at Beechwood. Starting this year, all children in Year 6 will be issued a pen licence and allowed to use a handwriting pen in the summer term in preparation for Secondary school, regardless of whether they have previously been issued a pen licence. This way all children will experience the use of a pen in school and achieve success in this area before leaving Beechwood. I look forward to seeing you at our Harvest Celebration next week.

School Diary

Our School Diary is updated on a weekly basis. Please use the diary below as a quick guide to future events at Beechwood.

Over the last week at Beechwood………………… Foundation Stage This week, Butterflies have been very busy learning all about the Season ‘Autumn’. They have explored the book ‘Storm’, by Sam Usher which inspired us to make kites to fly in the wind. Year 1 This week in year 1 the children have been reading The Gingerbread Man as part of their traditional tales topic and writing an alternative ending to the story. In maths they have started to look at how to add 2 numbers together using both the part-whole method as well as making number sentences. In Geography, the children have enjoyed finding out about our local area and exploring the different features that we see every day on our way to school. Year 2 This week the children have been writing fact files about the Great Fire of London using Purple Mash in the ICT Suite. Mrs Dahele has been reading the story of the Good Samaritan. They have been discussing kindness and how this could be reflected in their own lives. In maths they have been using their number bonds to 10 to solve mathematical sums to 100. Year 3 In maths the children have been adding and subtracting. They have been planning and writing their own stories about the Stone Age in English. In Art they have painted stones and made our own model of Stonehenge. Year4 The children have begun a unit of work on instruction writing, starting this week by exploring some great example texts. In maths, they have been working on using and applying their longer addition skills. The children also continue to enjoy learning about the Romans, learning this week about the role of emperors such as Julius Caesar. Year 5/6 The children have been finishing and writing up their Mr Wonka stories in English. In maths they have been multiplying large numbers and of course looking forward to their trip to Cadburys World today!
