MASS INTENTIONS

THE POPE'S MONTHLY INTENTIONS

Each year, the Holy Father asks for our prayers for a specific intention each month. You are invited to answer the Holy Father's request and to join with many people worldwide in praying for this intention each month. Starting in 2017, only one general intention is offered per month. The Holy Father plans, however, to add a second prayer intention each month related to current events or urgent needs, like disaster relief. The urgent prayer request will help mobilize prayer and action related to the urgent situation.

The Holy Father has entrusted these intentions in a particular way to the Apostleship of Prayer, an organization that works to encourage Christians to respond to the Pope's appeal and to deepen their daily prayer. You can find more information about the Apostleship of Prayer on their website. http://www.popesprayerusa.net/. (The Apostleship of Prayer will also publish the Holy Father's urgent prayer intentions as soon as they are received from the Holy See.)

JULYLapsed ChristiansThat our brothers and sisters who have strayed from the faith, through our prayer and witness to the Gospel, may rediscover the merciful closeness of the Lord and the beauty of the Christian life.

17th Sunday in Ordinary TimeWisdom and understanding are two of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They are the focus of our First and Gospel Readings today. Wisdom is more than being smart. Wisdom also includes the ability to go beyond smart to being smart based on life experiences. A person who is understanding also considers what it would be like to walk in another person’s shoes. The heart enters the picture.God, in our reading from 1 Kings, offers Solomon anything he wants. Solomon could have asked for jewels, wealth, a new palace, more wives, etc. He wanted to be a king as good as his father, David. He was young and inexperienced so he asked God for the gift of wisdom but he specified he would like to rule with an understanding heart. God was pleased with Solomon’s request and so it was granted. There was never another king like Solomon.Paul continues his letter to the Romans. He said people who love God work for good just as Jesus did. God called those who follow Jesus. Jesus’ followers are justified. In Paul’s understanding, being justified meant being saved. The saved are also glorified. To Paul, that meant eternal life in heaven. So followers of Jesus are saved and given eternal life. That is the promise and our hope.In our Gospel reading today we hear Jesus telling several kingdom parables. Each begins with, “the kingdom of heaven is like…” It is like a treasure buried in a field. If you knew the treasure was there you would sell all you had to buy the field. The treasure is the kingdom. Likewise, you would sell everything to buy the pearl of great price. The pearl is the kingdom. It is a net filled with many kinds of fish that will be sorted as good or bad. The bad fish are thrown out and the good fish are kept. The net is the kingdom. The angels on the Day of Judgment will separate the wicked people from the righteous and throw the bad guys into the fiery furnace. That is self-explanatory. So the point of the parables is to understand the wealth and riches that are given to us in the kingdom. What’s in it for us? Wise and understanding people will get it. We should not judge - Jesus will do that. We should use our wisdom to see others and listen to their stories. We should use an understanding heart to sense their feelings and needs. Then we must do something to help. When we do those things we will enter the kingdom. Are you willing to pay the price?

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!Our Summer Blood Drive is Aug. 6, 2017.If you wish to register to give blood you may do so now by going on line to www.redcrossblood.org and register.Any and all help is deeply appreciated.Thank You,Tony

CHRISTIAN SERVICE [email protected] BABY PANTRY

In the US, July is National Watermelon Month, so named not only because a cool, refreshing slice of watermelon represents the epitome of summer, but also because watermelon harvests peak this monthWatermelon is now the most-consumed melon in the US (followed by cantaloupe and honeydew). This cousin to cucumbers, pumpkins, and squash is thought to have originated in Egypt

close to 5,000 years ago, where it is depicted in hieroglyphics. Today, upwards of 300 watermelon varieties are grown in the US and Mexico (although only about 50 are popular). You may think you know everything there is to know about this summertime fruit, but you may be surprised to know that… watermelon is more than just delicious… it's a super-healthy addition to your diet (in moderation, of course).• Watermelon contains more of the

antioxidant lycopene than fresh tomatoes; one cup of watermelon has 1.5 times the lycopene as a raw tomato

• L-citrulline, an amino acid in watermelon, seems to protect against muscle pain

• Watermelon rind is edible and

actually contains more of the amino acid citrulline than the pink flesh; citrulline is converted to arginine in your kidneys, which is important for heart and immune system health

• New research showed citrulline and arginine supplements derived from watermelon extract lead to significant improvements in blood pressure and cardiac stress in obese study participants

• Watermelon contains cucurbitacin E, or tripterpenoid, which blocks the activity of the pain and inflammation-causing enzyme cyclooxygenase -- the same enzyme blocked by COX-2 inhibitor drugs

Enjoy this summertime treat!Blessings,Heather

To all who have donated to our food pantry in the past few weeks, we say, “God bless you for your generosity!”It is hard enough to go through pain and heartache when we have encouragement. How excruciating it is to feel abandoned when we are experiencing trials and tribulations. If we look at our lives, we can find ways to give support to those around us. Food is in great demand throughout our township. You always help. Your support of our pantry collection is greatly appreciated!

St. Isidore Conference - - Pat Schmeiser

The Politics of Faith written June 28, 2017There are some who are deeply disturbed by an “obvious political bent”, detectable in my writings and my homilies. I would be lying if I said that I had no “political agenda” in my articles; that I was unconcerned with the current political direction in America. To little surprise to anyone, I am not a fan of our current president. But, my objections are not directed toward any political party, or “personality short-fall” of our political leaders. My concern is with the direction they are taking in America, leading us away from valuing the Gospel message of Christ. I can never affirm strongly enough that neither Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, nor Independents are free from legitimate concern for policies and ideas that dramatically contend against the Gospel message of Jesus Christ – a genuine concern for the health and wellbeing of everyone. No political party has “cornered the market” on righteousness nor unrighteousness. All political parties bring legitimate questions into the public forum, and all have some positive answers for these troubling problems. As Catholic Christians, we are commanded to be faithful citizens within our communities of family, neighborhood and nation. We are commanded to insist that our laws and policies reflect the values described in the Holy Scriptures; values that supersede the limits of gender, race, age, income group, nationality, or religion. This is not any new teaching, not something that was born in the discussion of the Second Vatican Council. This theme is fundamental throughout the Gospels, and especially the Gospel of Luke. This theme is the underlying platform of 2nd century A.D. apologist Justin Martyr. This theme is the universal cord that unites all the prophets of Hebrew Scripture. As faithful citizens, we are commanded to demand from our political leaders laws and policies that respect the lives and value of every human person, that protect and defend the environment, that promote the common good of our nation and our world. As faithful citizens, we are commanded to resist the policies that only work to isolate us into groups of “them versus us”. We are all children of the same One True God.What is so unfortunate is that so very many of the problems facing human society today (as in every generation) are complex issues. There are no simple, “quick-fix” solutions to problems of poverty, education, health care, immigration, tax equity, etc. Yet, we seem (to me at least) to be very content with simplistic, “broad brush” responses to these issues. Even when we turn to the Scriptures, it can appear that there is a simple solution – Just Love Everyone. But, is it loving to simply give and ask nothing in return? Is it loving to impoverish oneself and one’s family by giving everything away to the poor? Is it loving to completely abandon a prison system because it makes life difficult for some? The simple answer here, is “no, it is not loving to deny the opportunity for people to contribute to their own well-being, to trade one class of poor for another, to leave society unprotected.” The difficulty is in defining appropriate responses that support the dignity of all persons, yet builds a strong and healthy society. As Christians, we are commanded to look for deeper answers.

JULY 30, 20179 17TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

I thank God for the gift of this time to me who brought me here to serve you by the virtue of my Ordination. He has been very good to me, He provided me with all the care and attention I needed to carry out his ministry here in the USA. He did it through various persons.I Thank Bishop Reiss and Fr. Stephen Rooney who invited me to this Archdiocese with the help of my Order Priest and friend Fr. John Peter Arul from White Lake, St. Patrick Parish. Bishop and Fr. Rooney did my interview through the phone. They liked my average accent and that is why I am here. I thank them sincerely!

I started in Monroe as a chaplain to Mercy Memorial hospital. I served there for one year, but I could not continue there after the death of my father in the same year of 2006. I requested of the archdiocese a parish ministry. The Moderator of Curia, Msgr. John Zenz assigned me to a Parish in Macomb Township, St. Isidore under Msgr. Mike Hrydziuszko. It was a tough assignment, but it was a learning experience and helped me get used to the life, culture and ministry in the USA. I too, enjoyed the warmth of the people who were very loving and caring for me. The staff at St. Isidore was very supportive of me, especially Debbie Rak, Holly Shanefelt, Diane Bucko, Christopher Kasperek, Edward Kotulski, John Hilt, Ron Pakizer, Tony Kendzierski and Amy Righi who taught me the Easter Proclamation. I was not comfortable with driving, so my friends, namely, Mike Schrader and Mark Neven would drive me when needed. It was a great learning experience as the chaplain, working with the St Vincent De Paul Society, Thank You! Thank you to Genevieve Formanczyk and Larry Opalewski who organized and raised money with the consent of the pastor Fr. Mike, to buy a Chalice of my own. Thank you, Irene Goike who bought me two Chasubles in remembrance of her Dad. Daily Mass attendees were very supportive of me. They took me frequently for Breakfast. It was a beautiful and enriching experience. I am thankful to all of them especially those who were my good friends. ...I go with a rich experience to do the Lord's work in India in my assigned parish. OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP (SAHAYA MATHA) CHURCH, NALLATIN PUTHUR! Jude Paulraj, the bishop of the diocese and was entrusted to the Congregation of Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales to take care of the spiritual needs of the people. CLUSTERED PARISHES This parish has got 15 substations namely Aalampatti, Gopalapuram, Kattalangulam, Kalampatti, Kangankulam, Kumareddiarpuram, Kumarapuram, Manthithoppu, Nachiarpuram, Uthupatti, Vanaramutti, Veyulukanthapuram, Padarnthapuli, Salaiputhur and Thonukal. COMMUNION OF SAINTS PRAYER COMMUNITYWe are a Catholic charismatic prayer community meeting at St. Isidore every Monday at 7:00 pm in the Resource Center. Please enter at the door by the Blessed Mother Garden off Romeo Plank Road.Rev 7:9-12After this, I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out in a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne and to the Lamb!” And all the angels stood round the throne and round the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”[email protected]

As you look at the crosses on our church grounds, remember that each cross represents less than half the number of abortions performed everyday in the United States. These crosses are a powerful visual display of the tragedy that is abortion. We believe that all human life has value in all the stages of it's development, from conception until natural death, and it is our hope that this display will increase the awareness of abortion and help increase the respect and dignity for human life. There are over 35 pregnancy help centers in our area as well as faith-based post-abortion counseling programs such as Project Rachel and assistance from Lutherans for Life. Please call the Right To Life-LIFESPAN office for these locations and telephone numbers: (248) 816-1546. The crosses will be on display from July 26 through August 8.
