A Word From Tammy Riesgraf, Elder

Keep Moving Forward July 1st marks the midway point of 2019!! It is also marks the 6th month that we have been without a full-time pastor! Please be aware that your Joint Board is working diligently to keep our church moving forward and in good repair. As the old adage goes “it takes a village to raise a child” it also “takes a congregation to keep a church alive!!“ The Joint Board has met with Bruce Nelson on two occasions to discuss the process for receiving a new pastor. At this point, we still have a lot of work to do! In the meantime, we are filling the pulpit, planning worship services, cleaning spaces that haven’t been cleaned in years, repairing light fixtures, broken windows and broken security cameras! We have planned special events such as Lenten Services, Appreciation Sunday and End of the Year Sunday School Picnic! We are so appreciative of the congregations help and support and trust that it will continue throughout the coming weeks and months. We must also thank Jen Welvaert our office administrator for all her hard work in keeping us on track! At the end of this month we will once again host our annual Ice Cream Social during River City Days (July 26-27). Sign-up sheets will be in the lobby for shift workers, pie makers, money takers and donation givers and folks to clean up afterwards. Please help where you can, if you have any questions you can talk to our fearless leaders Sheryl Tellers or Kelli Schmitz. We know it’s not easy being without a pastor and our goal is that this time will be short lived, but with positive attitudes and giving hearts we can make this a time of growth. Barbara Johnson once wrote: “If things are tough, remember that every flower that ever bloomed had to go through a whole lot of dirt to get there!” We will get there together, one day at a time!

His House is always amazed of the blessings received through donations to serve others. Our Abundance Food Recovery Program captures prepared foods that would otherwise go in the waste stream and delivers it to people that can’t access a food shelf or don’t have access to a kitchen. This past month we had a family of 4 living in a tent at various campgrounds. We worked with them to make sure they were accessing all the resources available to homeless families. A wonderful food donation came from 2 local church events. We were able to distribute the food to this family in manageable portions. We would meet the grandmother and load up what she needed so they could all eat. If this food donation had not come in, we would not have been able to help them with appropriate foods. Our food recovery program is redistributing 3000 pounds of food a month. Without this partnership many families would be hungry. Thank you for all the wonderful donations. You are invited to gather at historic Zoar Moravian Church for worship on Wednesday evenings, 7:00 p.m. July 3 – August 21. The worship is brief and serene. The services are led by various Moravian pastors and leaders from around Minnesota. Please consider attending this summer; bring your young children, your neighbors, and your extended family. It’s a brief worship in a unique setting.
