Have a Blessed All Saints Day

Sunday Reflection
�
Has anyone told you that their ultimate goal in life is
to become a Saint? You are probably wondering if they
did — you would almost think they are self-righteous.
However, the reality is that all Christians are called to
become saints. Each one of us who has received bap-
tism is initiated into the life of Jesus of Nazareth so that
we can achieve holiness and reach heaven one day.
The Solemnity of All Saints is a reminder to all of us of
the great Christian witness and heroism of the men and
women of salvation history.
Ordinary people have been called by God throughout
the ages to do extraordinary things with their live. When-
ever we read the lives of the Saints we are often con-
fronted by the reality of imperfection and sin. Many of
the Saints that we honor today were not always exem-
plary in their witness to Jesus the Christ. Some of them
led very sinful lives. Others struggled with depression
and their faith in God. Still others were complacent in
their living paying no attention to God at all. What mat-
ters is this – they ultimately achieved holiness in their
lives. The Saints are people who allowed themselves to
be led by God and to do mighty things in His name.
Let us consider an example so that we can ponder
what God is calling us to. The life of St. Paul reminds us
that one may well be on the wrong track when God de-
cides to confront a sinful and dreadful situation. Paul
was part of a zealous party that absolutely hated the
Christians.
He would stand and hold the cloaks of those who
would stone the early Christians to death. He was fanati-
cal in his practice of religion and was totally intolerant of
other people’s beliefs. Paul was absolute in his view on
religion and had no problem murdering others who did
not hold the same beliefs.
However, something happened to totally turn him
around. Paul experienced an encounter with Jesus of
Nazareth on his way to Damascus which changed his
life. Jesus speaks to him in the midst of his hatred and
asks, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Paul
realizes that Jesus is still alive in that moment and
knows that the message of the gospel was not some-
thing fictitious but rather a reality which ends in resurrec-
tion. He spent the rest of his life taking this message of
hope to many countries. He experienced persecution,
ship wrecks, imprisonment, and ultimately martyrdom to
bring others to a relationship with Jesus Christ. �
Reflexión del Domingo
¿Alguien te ha dicho que su objetivo final en la vida es
convertirse en santo? Probablemente se esté preguntando
si lo hicieron, casi pensaría que son farisaicos. Sin embar-
go, la realidad es que todos los cristianos están llamados a
ser santos. Cada uno de nosotros que hemos recibido el
bautismo es iniciado en la vida de Jesús de Nazaret para
que podamos alcanzar la santidad y llegar al cielo algún
día. La Solemnidad de Todos los Santos nos recuerda a
todos el gran testimonio cristiano y el heroísmo de los
hombres y mujeres de la historia de la salvación.
La gente común ha sido llamada por Dios en diferentes
épocas para hacer cosas extraordinarias con su vida.
Siempre que leemos la vida de los santos, a menudo nos
enfrentamos a la realidad de la imperfección y el pecado.
Muchos de los santos que honramos hoy no siempre fue-
ron ejemplares en su testimonio de Jesucristo. Algunos de
ellos llevaron vidas muy pecaminosas. Otros lucharon con-
tra la depresión y su fe en Dios. Otros eran complacientes
en su vida y no prestaban atención a Dios en absoluto. Lo
que importa es esto: finalmente lograron la santidad en
sus vidas. Los santos son personas que se dejaron guiar
por Dios y hacen cosas poderosas en Su nombre.
Consideremos un ejemplo para que podamos reflexio-
nar a qué nos está llamando Dios. La vida de San Pablo
nos recuerda que uno puede estar en el camino equivoca-
do cuando Dios decide enfrentar una situación pecamino-
sa y terrible. Pablo era parte de un partido celoso que
odiaba absolutamente a los cristianos.
Él se pondría de pie y sostendría los mantos de aque-
llos que apedrearían a los primeros cristianos hasta la
muerte. Era fanático en su práctica de la religión y total-
mente intolerante con las creencias de otras personas.
Paul era absoluto en su punto de vista sobre la religión y
no tenía ningún problema en asesinar a otros que no te-
nían las mismas creencias.
Sin embargo, algo sucedió que lo cambió por comple-
to. Pablo experimentó un encuentro con Jesús de Nazaret
en su camino a Damasco que cambió su vida. Jesús le
habla en medio de su odio y le pregunta: "Saulo, Saulo,
¿por qué me persigues?" Pablo se da cuenta de que Je-
sús todavía está vivo en ese momento y sabe que el men-
saje del evangelio no era algo ficticio, sino una realidad
que termina en la resurrección. Pasó el resto de su vida
llevando este mensaje de esperanza a muchos países.
Experimentó persecución, naufragios, encarcelamiento y
finalmente el martirio para llevar a otros a una relación con
Jesucristo.

All Souls Day is Tuesday, November 2nd.
In years past, we had an All Souls Day
Mass; however, this year there will be no
Mass due to not having scheduled Masses
on Tuesdays during Father Jesus’ S
Sabbatical. As a remembrance of All
Souls Day, we have blessed candles
available for parishioners who have lost
family members this year. Please come
to the parish office to receive your
candle. The church will be open and
there will be a table with a candle lit.
You are welcome to bring and light your
remembrance candle and pray for the
deceased in your family. Also, the Book
of Remembrance will be on a podium by
the communion rail . Please write the
names of your loved ones for whom we
will pray. The Remembrance Book will be
exposed the entire month of November.

Lunes 1de Noviembre
El Día de los Fieles Difuntos es el martes 2 de
noviembre. En años pasados, tuvimos una
Misa del Día de los Difuntos; sin embargo,
este año no habrá Misa por no haber
programado Misas los martes durante el
Sabático del Padre Jesús. Como recuerdo del
Día de los Fieles Difuntos, tenemos velas
bendecidas disponibles para los feligreses
que han perdido familiares este año. Venga
a la oficina parroquial para recibir su vela.

boletos se venderán después de cada
misa a partir de este fin de semana
hasta el 6 de noviembre. Habrá
tamal es verdes (de pollo) y rojos (de
puerco) disponibles. El costo es de $ 20
por 1docena y 1/2 docena por $ 10. Las
fechas para recoger su orden de
tamales será el sábado 13 de noviembre
de 5:00 p.m. a 7:00 p.m. y el domingo 14
de noviembre después de cada misa.

will be sold after each mass starting
this weekend through November 6th.
Both green (chicken) tamales and red
(pork) tamales will be available. Cost is
$20 for 1 dozen and 1/2 dozen for $10.
Tamale pick up dates are Saturday,
November 13 from 5pm –7pm and Sun-
day, November 14 after each mass.
The profits from this sale will go
towards the Building Fund.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place immedi-
ately following the daily Mass on Thursday mornings.
We adore the exposed Blessed Sacrament and conclude
with Benediction. This Eucharistic devotion is meant to
offer all the faithful an opportunity to spend time in
prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
During your visit you certainly may offer your own
prayers to the Lord. You are also welcome to pray for
your own needs.
