Lend a hand to help Chamber Music Australia discover, audition and fly sixteen impossibly talented young ensembles to Melbourne for the 7th Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, 11 to 19 July 2015.

Feel first-hand the energy of our new initiatives to grow Australian composition and to build direct and inspirational links with secondary schools.

ENRICHING THE WORLD OF MUSIC BY GIVINGChamber music is a collection of individual voices, interwoven in perfect harmony, counterpoint and balance. Each individual performs an integral and vital role.

Dame Elisabeth Murdoch played the principal part in Chamber Music Australia’s first twenty-five years. Her generosity, commitment and foresight built the foundations for Chamber Music Australia and its two remarkable competitions that turn the eyes and ears of the international music world to Australia.

For the continuation of that theme, to build on this passion and enrich the world by preserving and developing chamber music further, we need you to play your part.

A 25th Anniversary is a significant achievement and we invite you to raise your hand.

ELEVATING OUR STATURE ON THE WORLD STAGEEvery two years, Chamber Music Australia stages an international competition in Melbourne.

The Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and the Asia-Pacific Chamber Music Competition are internationally recognised as stepping stones for talented and committed young chamber music ensembles to the world stage.

Both competitions have strict upper age limits. By sticking to these principles we ensure that competing ensembles are on the cusp of a professional career. This is true to the vision of our founder, Marco van Pagee – to build and sustain the next generation of chamber music in Australia.

THE GLOBAL SEARCH FOR EXCELLENCE Preparations for the 2015 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition begin in mid-2014 with an international ‘Call To Enter’ directive. Following a preliminary selection process we send two experienced Australian musicians to cities across the globe (Melbourne, Beijing, Moscow, Vienna, Hannover, Paris, London, New York) to conduct live auditions of the shortlisted hopefuls.

We then fly up to sixteen selected ensembles to Melbourne to compete (eight string quartets and eight piano trios – fifty-six musicians plus sixteen cellos!).

For the two weeks they are here, our volunteers ensure the welfare of these talented young musicians as they undertake a demanding performance schedule and maintain their competition focus. Many of them are a long way from home for the first time.

To adjudicate the competition, Chamber Music Australia selects a jury of local and international musicians, all leaders in their field.

We book a host of venues and engage the media to promote the young artists locally and internationally. We present the competitions before a live audience and we take the performances to the world through online broadcasts.

Many of the public outcomes of Chamber Music Australia are supported by the generous prize donors and organisations listed on the back cover. But to continue the day-to-day operations of staging these international events and to maintain the high standard we have established, we need your support.
