“Archie's

a Comedian’s

Comedian’’

Archie Campbell is the perfect example ofits man who worked a lifetime in order to be an overnight sensation. He is a man of many and varied talents—as a singer he is “The Bard of Bulls Gap”; as an artist he is “The Rembrandt of Painter's Alley’; on the golf course he is the ‘Poor Man’s Don Cherry.”

Have A LAUGH ON Me is a perfect showcase for Archie Campbell's talent as a top banana, a comedian’s comedian. This is the guy other comics steal from. He creates material faster than they can copy it and he'd rather write than snitch. It would be wrong to call Archie a country comic. He is at home anywhere there's an open microphone, whether it is the Grand Ole Opry or the big city supper clubs.

A veteran of radio for many years, he started his career in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Many other country stars began in radio— including us. We worked with Archie in the Thirties; we didn't miss any meals but we were three days late for breakfast many times.

Archie's delivery is absolutely perfect, and to me his timing puts a Swiss watch to shame. His material is air conditioned. Sometimes he gets what | call “baby blue,” but it is always in good taste and never offensive, and most of all it is funny.

...spoken by one who should know,

Jethro © (of Homer and Jethro)

Archie is a master storyteller; his “Cinderella” and ‘Sleeping Beauty” are classics. His use of ‘‘spoonerisms’ is, as the cats would say, The Living End! It comes out Rindercella and Beeping Sleauty; sounds like he may have had an overdose of Serutan. Other examples of the Campbell wit here are The Drunk, his famous restaurant bit Hey, Waiter!, and his Hockey Here Tonight. The live audience reaction adds

to the fun. It is hard to compare Archie to anyone else

in the comedy field. He is different from the ones | have been exposed to; let's face it, the poor guy is original, and in country comedy this is most unusual. It is always a pleasure for me to sit and write about a great performer such as Archie Campbell. Also the small fee that | receive gives it a business aspect. So | am able to combine business and pleasure,

and as a great lady, Miss Polly Adler, once said, "It's been a business doing pleasure with you.” And now, “have a laugh on Archie Campbell.” | sure did!

Sincerely,

Vo Darra Mandolin Picker
