• Promote clean air strategies to reduce diesel emissions with– manufacturers, – fleet operators, – air quality professionals, – environmental and community organizations, – and state and local officials

Why Clean Diesel

• Energy security– Reduce imported oil

• Economic benefits– Better mpg, cheaper fuel, American business

• Health benefits– Asthma, allergies, cancer and lung disease reduced:

• Lower levels of particulate matter, carcinogens, toxins, nitrogen oxides than traditional diesel

• Environmental benefits– Emissions damage plants, animals, crops, and water

resources.– Climate change

• Clean air strategies – The 6 R’s– Reduce fuel use– Refuel with clean alternative fuels– Retrofit existing vehicles to lower emissions– Replace older vehicles– Repower old engines– Rebuild older engines

Clean Diesel Funding

• State Clean Diesel Grant Program allocates funds to participating states– Non-competitive– Funding based on participation– Incentive funding for matching funds– Grant and loan programs for clean diesel

projects

Estimated $180,000 for Hybrid Vehicles• Matching funding bonus• For diesel vehicles, GVWR must be 16,001 lbs +• Older than 2004 • Replacements must be scrapped• Vehicle cannot be scheduled to be replaced
