The Latest Sailing Adventures of Club Members Mark & Dorothy Hazlett

Karen and Jeff— Hope all is well with both of you. Sorry for the delayed response. Just got regular email back after arriving in Polynesia (Marquesas from Mexico). We are in Nuka Hiva and just got back from a party last night on a 65 foot cat. Tomorrow we have dinner with a couple from Rutea named Neal and Ruthie Schneider who were at La Cruz and got here a month before us. Passage was very easy. We got here after sailing a couple days with double-reefed main only so we could arrive at dawn. We were slow (20 or 21 days depending on how you count) but never were able to fly our kite or go wing-on-wing because of a pole problem that was supposed to have been fixed in La Cruz and laziness. Just as well as we read more books. We will be here at least ten days-two weeks in the Marquesas and then head to Tuamotus. Nothing broke and everything is fine. Have to get up for early market and fresh baguettes. Fair winds and aloha, Mark and Dot , sv Pua’ena

Get Your Free Vessel Safety Check for 2011

A vessel safety check is a courtesy examination of a boat to verify the presence and operable condition of certain safety equipment required by state and federal regulations. The Vessel Examiner is a trained specialist and is a member of the US Power Squadrons or the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. They will also make certain recommendations and discuss safety related issues that will make boat owners safe boaters.

The inspection is really quick and easy. Many trailerable boats can be inspected in as little as ten minutes. All boaters will receive a copy of the evaluation form at the end of the inspection. Boats that meet the safety requirements will receive a current Vessel Safety Check decal to be displayed onboard.

If replacement or additional safety items are needed to successfully meet the requirements, the VSC form can be shown at both Boat U.S. and West Marine stores to purchase necessary safety related items at a discount. If the necessary items are purchased at the time of the check, the decal will still be awarded. Vessel Safety Checks are not marine surveys. Vessel Examiners do not issue citations if boats fail to meet safety requirements. For more information about the VSC program, to get a preview of the safety requirements or to schedule a VSC for your boat by one of our HSPS qualified Vessel Safety Examiners please call:
