He has thrown 10 touchdowns and two intercep ons over the last nine games. Petras is 9-2 as Iowa’s star ng quarterback. His .818 winning percentage is second all- me among Iowa quarterbacks with at least 10 starts. Brad Banks is No. 1 (11-2, .846). Petras’s 31.4 points per game (2020-21) is the highest average by a Hawkeye star ng quarterback since Banks (36.6, 2002). The 100-yard rushing game was the sixth of his career, his fi rst this season. FERENTZ AMONG BIG TEN’S BEST Moon Family Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz has 104 Big Ten wins as Iowa’s head coach, the fourth most of any coach in Big Ten Conference history. The Hawkeyes defeated Penn State, 41-21, on Nov. 21, 2020, to earn Ferentz’s 100th conference win. Ferentz’s 171 wins in all games coached as a member of the Big Ten Conference rank fourth all- me in league history. He is one of fi ve coaches in Big Ten Conference history to win at least 150 games as a member of the Big Ten Conference. The top fi ve include Woody Hayes (202), Amos Alonzo Stagg (199), Bo Schembechler (194), Ferentz (171) and Joe Paterno (162). Ferentz (171-106) became Iowa’s all- me winningest coach on Sept. 1, 2018. The Hawkeyes defeated Northern Illinois, 33-7. It was Ferentz’s 144th win as Iowa’s head coach, one more than his predecessor, Hayden Fry (143-89-6). Fry coached Iowa for 20 years (1979-98). Ferentz is in his 23rd season in 2021. Both Ferentz (171, 104) and Fry (143, 96) rank in the top fi ve in overall wins and Big Ten wins. Only Iowa and Michigan have two coaches ranked in the top 10 of both win categories (Bo Schembechler 194, 143; and Lloyd Carr 122, 81). Iowa is the only school in the country to have just two head football coaches since 1979.

FERENTZ TOPS IN LONGEVITY Kirk Ferentz is in his 23rd season as Iowa’s head football coach in 2021. He is the longest tenured ac ve head coach in college football. CELEBRATING #300 The Hawkeyes’ 30-7 win against Kent State on Sept. 18 was their 300th win at Kinnick Stadium since the stadium opened in 1929. The fi rst game played at Kinnick Stadium was Oct. 5, 1929, a 46-0 Hawkeye win against Monmouth. Iowa’s 100th win at Kinnick was a 31-19 victory over Arizona on Oct. 4, 1969. The 200th win at Kinnick Stadium was a 44-19 victory against Miami, Ohio, on Sept. 8, 2001. Iowa became the seventh Big Ten school to celebrate at least 300 wins in its home stadium.

MOSS EARNS WEEKLY CONFERENCE AND NATIONAL HONORS DB Riley Moss was named Walter Camp FBS Na onal Defensive Player of the Week and Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week following No. 18 Iowa’s 34-6 win over No. 17 Indiana on Sept. 4. Moss became just the third player in school history to return two intercep ons for touchdowns in a single game. He had a 30-yard intercep on return to give Iowa a 14-0 advantage in the opening minutes of the game. Moss collected his second touchdown in the fi nal minutes of the second quarter, returning the the 55 yards for the score. Moss added one solo tackle and two pass break-ups against the Hoosiers as the Hawkeye defense allowed just 233 yards total off ense. Moss has eight career intercep ons for 239 yards, including three touchdown returns. The eight the s e for 19th in program history, while his 239 return yards rank second among Iowa’s career leaders (Tyler Sash, 392 yards). BIG TEN BOWL GAMES SINCE 2001 The Hawkeyes have been bowl eligible 19 mes in the last 20 seasons. Iowa accepted an invita on to the 2020 Music City Bowl, but the game was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz is one bowl win shy of tying Joe Paterno (10) for most bowl wins as a member of the Big Ten Conference. Ferentz has a 9-8 bowl record and has led Iowa to three straight bowl wins, tying its longest such streak in program history. Ferentz’s nine bowl wins e Barry Alvarez for second in Big Ten history. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Iowa plays two Friday games in 2021. The Hawkeyes visit Maryland on Oct. 1 and Nebraska on Nov. 26. Iowa is 8-3 all- me in games played on Friday. Iowa and Nebraska meet on Black Friday, the day a er Thanksgiving, for the 11th consecu ve season. The schools have played on Black Friday every year since Nebraska joined the Big Ten Conference in 2011. Iowa is 7-3 in the previous 10 Black Friday mee ngs, including winners of six straight.

BIG TEN PERFECTION University of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz has twice navigated the Big Ten regular season schedule with an undefeated record. IOWA PLAYER COUNCIL GROUP The University of Iowa football program’s 2021 Player Council includes 16 student-athlete -- six seniors and 10 juniors. The purpose of the group is to assist in formula ng policies and being involved in team decision-making throughout the year. Players were selected following coaching staff and player input. The 2021 group consists of seniors Ma Hankins, Ivory Kelly-Mar n, Jack Koerner, Kyler Scho , Caleb Shudak and Zach VanValkenburg, and juniors Dane Belton, Seth Benson, Jack Campbell, Joe Evans, Tyler Goodson, Sam LaPorta, Tyler Linderbaum, Kaevon Merriweather, Spencer Petras, and Tyrone Tracy, Jr.

BACK ON CAMPUS Four former players are on the University of Iowa football staff in 2021. Brian Ferentz, a three-year le erman from 2003-05, is in his 10th year on staff , his fi h as off ensive coordinator. LeVar Woods, a three-year le erman from 1998-2000, is in his 14th year on the Iowa staff . Woods was named special teams coordinator in 2017. He coached ght ends from 2015-17 and linebackers from 2012-14. He rejoined the program as an administra ve assistant in 2008. Kelvin Bell joined the Iowa program as a defensive lineman in 2000, but had his career cut short due to injury. He returned to the program as a graduate assistant and served as director of on-campus recrui ng from 2012-13. He was named recrui ng coordinator and defensive assistant coach in February, 2016, and was named defensive line coach in 2019. Ladell Be s joined the Iowa coaching staff as running backs coach in 2021. Be s is the second leading rushing in Iowa football history, rushing for 3,686 yards from 1998-2001. He is the only running back in school history to lead the team in rushing four straight years. Former Hawkeyes Jason Manson and Sam Brincks lead Iowa’s player development unit. Manson, the Hawkeyes’ director of player development, was a two-year le erman as a quarterback and wide receiver in 2005 and 2006. Brincks is the assistant director of player development and a 2018 Iowa graduate. He played defensive tackle for the Hawkeyes from 2015-2018.

HAWKEYE LEGACIES Iowa has fi ve players on its 2021 roster whose father played for the Hawkeyes: LB Eric Epenesa (Epenesa, 1997), DE Joe Evans (Spence, 1989), DB Thomas Hartlieb (Jim, 1989-92), WR Henry Marchese (John, 1985), and LS Liam Reardon (Bill). Epenesa is one of two players whose brothers played at Iowa: Eric (A.J. 2017-19) and FB Johnny Plewa (Macon in 2013-15). Iowa has one set of the brothers on the team: TE Bryce Schulte and DB Quinn Schulte. RB Max White is the great, great grandson of Max Hawkins, a member of University of Iowa’s famed ‘Ironmen” team in 1939 that included Iowa Heisman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick. LS Aus n Spiewak is the grandson of Gary Grouwinkel, who played for Iowa in the 1957 and 1959 Rose Bowl games.

HAWK TALK WITH KIRK FERENTZ Head Coach Kirk Ferentz is featured on “Hawk Talk with Kirk Ferentz” each week during the regular season. The radio call-in show is hosted by Gary Dolphin, the play-by-play voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes. The show airs live each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. from VUE Roo op at the Hilton Garden Inn in Iowa City. There is no show during the Hawkeyes’ bye week (Wednesday, Oct. 20).

Iowa (8-0, 2002; 8-0, 2015) is one of three Big Ten teams to post a perfect mark in conference play since 1998 (BCS era), joining Michigan State (1) and Ohio State (5).

• Iowa has ranked in the top 10 in the fi nal Associated Press and CNN/USA Today coaches polls fi ve mes since 2002, including a ranking of seventh in both polls at the conclusion of the 2009 season. Iowa ranked eighth in 2002, 2003 and 2004. The Hawkeyes fi nished 2015 ranked ninth in the AP poll and 10th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. In the Big Ten, only Ohio State has more top 10 fi nishes since 2002.

• Since 1936 when the fi rst AP poll was released, Iowa has appeared in the poll 343 mes, the fi h highest total in the Big Ten (Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and MSU). Iowa has been the top-ranked team in the country 11 mes.

• Iowa set a school record with 12 wins in 2015. The Hawkeyes won 11 games in 2002 (11-2), and 2009 (11-2). In 2009, Iowa started 9-0 and won 10 regular season games for just the fourth me in school history.

• Iowa’s football record in the 2000 decade was 80-45 (.640), a re-cord that ranks as the best decade in Iowa football history, based on total wins. Iowa posted a record of 77-40-4 (.652) during the 1980’s and the Hawkeyes were 62-53-2 (.538) in the 1990’s. Iowa was 81-49 (.623) from 2010-19.

• Iowa had 47 wins from 2015-19, the most of any fi ve-year period in school history.

Iowa (3-0) defeated Kent State (1-2), 30-7, on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.

MISCELLANEOUS The Hawkeyes won their 300th game at Kinnick Stadium since the stadium opened in 1929. The fi rst game played at Kinnick Stadium was Oct. 5, 1929, a 46-0 Hawkeye win against Monmouth. Iowa’s 100th win at Kinnick was a 31-19 victory over Arizona on Oct. 4, 1969. The 200th win at Kinnick Stadium was a 44-19 victory against Miami, Ohio, on Sept. 8, 2001. Iowa is seventh Big Ten school to celebrate at least 300 wins in its home stadium.
