Personnel Forum Tax Sheltered Annuity
Beginning in early July, 1988, the Medical Center will make a Tax Sheltered Annuity (T.S.A.) Program available to our employees through the Copeland Companies. A T.S.A. offers the opportunity to save and invest earnings before taxes, through payroll
· deduction. The program offered through Copeland offers a much broader range of services to our employees than our existing Deferred Compensation/T.S.A. program.
A local Account Executive will be in the hospital on a regularly scheduled basis to meet with employees on an individual basis. Group meetings, seminars, and workshops will be conducted by Copeland specialists.
At age 55, each employee in the program will be provided with a complete pre-retirement counseling package. Employees who are enrolled in the current program may continue in that program if they choose.
Employee Association
A number of seats are still available for the July 1 trip to Veteran's Stadium to see the Phillies play the Cincinnati Reds. The Phillies annual fireworks display will follow the game. This is truly an outstanding fireworks display. Check it out!
Reminder: The annual employee picnic is scheduled for Sunday, August 14, at Carmen's Grove. More information will follow on the picnic.
Your Retirement Income Normal Retirement Income
When you retire at age 65, you'll receive a retirement benefit calculated according to a formula. The formula uses two factors:
• your Years of Credited Service • your Final Earnings Your Credited Service includes all years
of service, disregarding the number of hours worked except:
- your first year of service - service after your Normal Retire-
ment Date - Service while you are receiving
disability benefits from the Plan Your Credited Service will be counted in
whole years and full months. The term "Final Earnings" means your
basic compensation received from
Hazleton-St. Joseph Medical Center during the 12-month period preceding each April 1, excluding overtime, bonuses, commissions, and any other additional pay.
The average is taken of your highest annual Earnings received before any 5 consecutive April 1 's in the 10-year period before your Normal Retirement Date.
You can calculate your Normal Retirement benefit by using the following formula:
¥.1 OJo of your Final Earnings up to $6,600 plus 1 ~ OJo of the portion of your Final Earnings in excess of $6,600 multiplied by the number of your years of Credited Service up to a maximum of 40 years.
Example Suppose you retire in 1991 at age 65, after
completing a total of 25 years of service. Let's say that your pay for the years 1987 to 1991 will give you your highest earnings.
1987 $ 20,000 1988 $ 22,000 1989 $ 24,000 1990 $ 26,000 1991 $ 28,000
$120,000 + 5 years = $24,000 Your Final Earnings is $24,000 You can now use these numbers in the
benefit formula: ¥.1 OJo of Final Earnings up
to $6,600 = $49.50 Plus 1 ~ o/o of Final Earnings of excess of $6,600
$24,000 - $6,600 = $17,400x 1 ~% = $217.50
$267.00 X 25
$6,675.00 + 12 = $556.25/ month Your total annual retirement benefit
from the Plan is $6,675, which equals $556.25 a mor.th. This is an addition to what you will receive from Social Security.
