PROMOTE project was signed in January 1996 for an amount of 36 million Euro.
Its main goal is to facilitate and accelerate a smooth transition to a more gender- sensitive and equitable society in rural Bangladesh by promoting girl-friendly secondary schools and high quality, gender sensitive teaching at secondary schools in rural areas. The purpose of the project is to facilitate the employment of more and better-prepared women teachers in rural secondary schools.

It is a Project Preparation Technical Assistant (PPTA) project to formulate the TQI phase 2. The main objective of the proposed TQI II is to continue support for Bangladesh in teaching quality improvement which is aligned with the GoB’s priority National Education Policy. The focus will be primarily on improving the
learning outcomes of students enrolled in secondary education, with a special focus on all eligible disadvantaged children and pockets.
The design will also build on the experience and lessons learnt from the ongoing TQI Project as well as support the Government's National Education Policy under formulation, particularly pertaining to teacher recruitment, deployment, career paths and professional development, including teacher competencies and teacher performance monitoring.
