SPECIFICATIONS FOR HYDRO CYCLONE

Equipment: Laboratory Model 2" Hydrocyclone Test Rig

Description,I

,I' ;

A hydrocyclone is a device to classify, separate or sort particles in a liquid

suspension based on the ratio of their centripetal force to fluid resistance.

Hydrocyclones also find application in the separation of liquids of different

densities. A hydrocyclone will normally have a cylindrical section at the top where

liquid is being fed tangentially, and a conical base. A hydrocyclone has two exits

on the axis: the smaller on the bottom (underflow or reject) and a larger at the top

(overflow or accept). The underflow is generally the denser or coarser fraction,

while the overflow is the lighter or finer fraction.

Generally, hydrocyclones are used in continuous flow systems so that'"the

instantaneous liquid inflow to the hydrocyclone is equal to the total instantaneous

outflow of "lights" plus "heavies". Hydrocyclones in mineral processing are used

extensively used to classify particles for recirculation in grinding circuits and to

differentiate between the economic mineral and gangue. It is also used fordesliming, desanding and dewatering purposes. in mineral processing.

Requirement

Laboratory model 2" Hydrocyclone Test Rig with capacity 40-50 litre - 01 No.

Specification

The unit /system should consist of the following:'

1. Hydrocyclone: 2" hydrocyclones should be supplied with different spigots

'and vortex finder attachments to obtain specific dso cut points. The

tentative diameter of spigot and vortex finder and the target cut point aregiven below, however, suppliers should indicate details on these

parameters. The hydrocyclone can be operated within the pressure rangeof 5-50 p.s.i.

Vortex finder: 14.3 mm, 11.1 mm and 8.0 mm

Spigot: 9.4 mm, 6.4 mm and 3.2 mm

dso cut point: 5-10 microns

2. Pump: The hydrocyclone test rig contains a MONO or centrifugal pump

driven via 'v' belts by an electric motor. -

3. A sump is fitted from which slurry delivers to the hydrocyclone by pump.

The sump should be made of either polyethylene or stainless steel with 'galvanized mild steel pipe work. The sump capacity should be 40-50 litre

4. A by-pass, valves and pressure gauge control the hydrocyclone operating,system. I' I

5. Hydrocyclone should be made of Abrasion RE?sistantPolyurethane.

6. The whole system should be mobile on wheel/castor for ease of operation.

7. The system should be strong enough to withstand the vibration (providedwith locking system/supporting system) during operation.

8. The supplier should supply the list of his clients.

9. The supplier should have Indian agent who has to install, commission·and

demonstrate the system at NML site ..

10. Calibration certificate for pressure gauge is to be provided.

11.The party should supply the spares for 3 years and have 1 year warrantyfor the whole system.

Optional Supplies:

(1) 1" Cyclone complete with different spigot, vortex finder to obtain d50 cut

size in the range of 3-7 microns 2.6 SG.

(2) Stub cones with diameters 8, 6.4 mm, 4.5 and 3.2 mm suitable for for 2"

cyclone.

(3) One body extension for 2" cyclone for achieving finer cut size and higher

. capacity.
