Metra.Me: Integrated Experience Description

Metra.Me is an app that will track a Metra rider’s daily commute and collect data to show on what days the trains are usually delayed or on scheduled time. This data will be shared between frequent users and infrequent users that will access the app so that they can plan their daily schedules. This will be beneficial to Metra riders because even though daily schedules are posted online they are not always accurate. This way riders will have more accurate data on all of the train schedules so they can have a more realistic view of their commute time.

Metra.Me: Frequent Riders

Monthly pass and 10-ride Metra riders: These are typically riders that take the train on a daily basis to get to work or use the Metra for frequent travel. These users will use the app to track the schedule for accuracy. They will use this data to help them with planning their work schedule or daily activities from week to week.

Metra.Me: Infrequent Riders

One-way and weekend pass users: These are infrequent riders that may use the Metra for leisure or events. Riders that are visiting from out of town also fall into this category. These riders will access the data from more frequent riders on the app to plan their day. This will help infrequent riders have more accurate information on Metra schedules when planning their day. For example, if there is a specific event or activity they need to get to they will know which train would be better to take to get them there on time depending on their schedule and train availability.

Metra.Me: Usage Scenarios (Frequent Riders)

A monthly or 10 ride pass rider will check into a starting train stop. This would be done automatically or manually based on the user’s preference. They will then be given the option to purchase a ticket or display the ticket they currently have. Throughout the train ride the app will track the train as it goes from stop to stop. Once the rider has reached their destination, they will get a notification pertaining to their commute (duration, delays, etc.). At the end of the week the app will give the rider information as to what days the train ran behind schedule and suggest an alternative train for the following week.

Metra.Me: Usage Scenarios (Infrequent Riders)

One-way and weekend pass users will access the app and be asked their beginning and end stop as well as what time they want to arrive. The app will offer suggested trains based on the daily users data so they can see things like percentage on time and typical minute delays. After viewing all the options the rider can buy their ticket. When the user gets to the train station and opens the app the digital ticket they bought will be shown and the status and ETA to their destination is displayed. Once the rider has reached their destination, they will get a notification pertaining to their commute (duration, delays, etc.).

Metra.Me: Insights

After completing this integrated experience it gave me a broader look into decision making within design. There was a lot information I included at first when writing my scenario but when I wanted to convey my idea seamlessly there were things I needed to be more concise with. Such as what kind of information would be geared to my users. How do I explain this idea and how it applies to two different types of users. I started off with my user scenarios because it felt better to me to write out my idea and narrow it down so it could be clearly explained in my storyboard. I don’t think my storyboard is too detailed but it gives the basic functionality of my idea for each user. I really enjoyed this assignment because it showed me how to convey ideas for users and also and gave me a way to use my creativity to express my idea.
