The devices of the DC MASTER 6RA70 series were discontinued on February 2014, the spare parts stocking will continue until October 2020.

Complete retrofit to SINAMICS DCM

SIMOREG 6RA2x and 6RA70 can be replaced easily with their successor SINAMICS DCM 6RA80

where downwards compatibility is ensured for both the function scope and the power range of the SIMOREG.

The existing DC motors can continue to be operated without modification.

The migration to the SINAMICS platform also provides enormous benefits in the spare parts stocking because the components originate from the SINAMICS modular system.



Various solutions

The following possibilities can be chosen for the retrofit of SIMOREG converters:

Replacement of SIMOREG with SINAMICS DC Master The existing wiring is retained and the motor (possibly overhauled) remains in

operation.

Replacement of the closed-loop controlOperation of the existing power section (6RA70) and motor is continued

Replacement of the rectifiers and the motor (DC->DC)The rectifiers and the motor are replaced with new devices from the SINAMICS

DCM or SIMOTICS DC product range.

Migration to AC technology (DC->AC)The converters and motors can be upgraded to the state-of-the-art AC technology

(e.g. SINAMICS G150).

Advantages of the DC retrofit solution

Some tangible advantages favor the retention of the presumed traditional DC technology:

Lower costs (in particular when parts of the drive train are retained)

Reduced space requirement (motors and converters)

High overload capability

High starting torque

Very good control response, comparable with AC technology

Low torque ripple, in particular at low speeds

Continuous operation at low speeds possible

Additional advantage: The power cables do not need to be relaid!



Interchangeability

Mechanical:SINAMICS DCM has been developed as successor product of the SIMOREG DC Master. Consequently, devices of the same power can be replaced mechanically (same space requirement).

The "Top power connections" option, however, is no longer available.

6RA70 software compatibility

Functional:With few exceptions, all functions and options of the predecessor devices are also available for SINAMICS DCM.

The parameterization can be converted manually to the new parameter.

The following exceptions exist:• SIMOLINK no longer available (alternative: SINAMICS Link / OA-Link)• No CAN bus available (connection possibly via an external gateway)• Option S00 Free blocks and logic functions can be configured with DCC• No T400 technology module available possibly replaced by replacement

Upgrading to the latest technical state of the SINAMICS platform ensures spare parts availability again for many years of operation.

The benefits

• Downwards compatibilitySINAMICS DCM was developed from the beginning to be downwards compatible to SIMOREG. This makes the retrofit easy to perform.

• Easy to maintainThe modular design allows single modules and power components to be replaced easily and quickly in the cabinet unit (DCM Cabinet).

• New networking optionsThe traditional analog/digital interface is supplemented with PROFINET(incl. remote monitoring options), as well as the standard PROFIBUS and CAN connection options.

• Modern diagnostics toolsA convenient commissioning and diagnostics option is available with the STARTER commissioning tool.

• User-friendliness is increasedThe operator panel (AOP30) simplifies monitoring in operation; this employs internal trace functions as well asautomatic recording of fault cases that can be read out in operation, which significantly expands the diagnostic options.
