ABOUT US
WHO IS THE HOBART CITY MISSION
In 2012 the Hobart City Mission celebrates its 160th anniversary and over that long period of time it has been like a family and friend to many people. This social closeness to people is what matters most and our clients appreciate being supported in a human, dignified and respectful manner.
Established in 1852, the Hobart City Mission was the first City Mission in Australia and is the third oldest Mission in the world. The Mission operates many programs, which in addition to addressing immediate needs, are designed to provide new life skills and a new direction.
The Mission takes a holistic approach to its work and offers assistance to vulnerable members of the Southern Tasmanian community by providing emotional, physical and financial support and guidance. The programs aim to empower people and enable them to participate in community life with a sense of dignity, purpose and self reliance.
With the support of charitable donors and ongoing fundraising events, the Hobart City Mission will continue to assist in the provision of food vouchers, affordable clothing, payment of utilities, and food packs in times of crisis. It will further support the provision of family counselling and transitional housing for families in need.
