The C2IP camera control system offers Ethernet-based TCP/IP control of up to 99 digital Grass Valley LDK series cameras. It features a master control panel that can dramatically speed camera setup and reconfiguration; an operational control panel with features normally found in conventional master control panels; and a base station designed for easy upgradeability and backward compatibility with our Series 9000 control system.

In addition to dramatically speeding setup, the compact MCP 400 master control panel allows you to configure priority settings and displays multi-camera settings and diagnostic messages on one screen. Camera settings can be stored and retrieved via USB interconnection. And instead of laboriously querying each camera on your network to obtain its operational settings, the MCP 400 interprets and logs all network activity between cameras and control panels—automatically.

For comprehensive camera control, the OCP 400 operational control panel of the C2IP system offers features such as variable matrix control, fine skin-detail adjustments, and installation adjustments. It is also one of the smallest control panels available, making it a great fit for mobile productions and studio settings with space restrictions.

The OCP 400 also features plug-and-play Ethernet connectivity, an intuitive interface for easy operation, and pre-illuminated buttons and text-screenings for dim-light environments. It supports all Grass Valley digital LDK series cameras.

Supporting our LDK 4000 and LDK 6000 series cameras, our high-definition (HD) fiber and HD triax base stations are the perfect interface between your HD cameras and the rest of your acquisition system.

Our base stations support HD video and optional simultaneous standard-definition (SD) video and audio from the camera, as well as modules for video monitoring, intercom, external video, teleprompting, and control signals. You can insert or remove optional modules at any time, making it possible to change a base station’s configuration on a day-to-day basis.

We offer two base station options: the LDK 4502 for triax infrastructures and the LDK 4503 for fiber systems. Never have such heavy-duty base stations with state-of-the-art technology been available in such small cabinets—yet still provide the quality and functionality you expect from broadcast products.

Making the Most of Your Infrastructure

In concert with our advanced triax HD transmission system, a further development of our Emmy® award-winning triax transmission system, the LDK 4502 and a camera attached to it are compatible with industry-standard triax cables. This compatibility enables you to reuse your existing, reliable, and valuable cable inventories. The triax HD transmission system offers video transmission and remote control of cameras up to a distance of 3,280 ft. (1,000m) and beyond using standard 0.55" (14 mm) triax cables, and up to 2,000m using the Grass Valley Triax Repeater. For even longer distances, you can use the LDK 4503 base station with a fiber optic transmission system.

Compact, Compatible, Intuitive

With their compact design, the LDK 4502 and LDK 4503 are only 2 RU high to minimize rack-space utilization. Their low power consumption and efficient internal cooling eliminate the need for space between adjacent units. And their available sliding rails give you easy access to their back panels.

To maximize your infrastructure investments, our base stations are compatible with all existing components of the Grass Valley C2IP camera control system.

What’s more, the modular concept of our base stations make them ideal for any type of application, including studio or mobile field production or for HD or SD production.

The operational settings of the base stations are accessible through their menus and from your operational control panels. In addition to the operational menu, you can activate their installation and service menus by pressing a switch behind the front panel of the base station. This protects the more vulnerable settings from accidental changes.

Interfacing with the World

The LDK 4502 and LDK 4503 support interfaces for various functions. Different combinations of analog and digital interfaces, for example, provide compatibility with all common broadcast equipment.

Delivers Greater Transmission Distance for HD Signals

Further expanding the Grass Valley Triax HD transmission system, our Triax Repeater for the LDK 6000 mk II camera series supports a greater transmission distance for HD signals than any other solution available. This combination is an excellent alternative to hybrid fiber transmission systems.

Using the new repeater, you can send HD video signals over triax cable up to 6,560 feet (2,000 meters)—without a significant loss of signal quality. By comparison, the maximum cable length possible without using the repeater is 3,280 feet (1,000 meters).

As a result, the LDK 6000 mk II camera can be used for a greater variety of challenging live HD events, including many applications in golf, skiing, and auto and horse racing. What’s more, the LDK 6000 mk II camera can easily handle triax and fiber transmission systems, making it an unrivalled production tool.

The repeater comes in a tough, weather-proof metal box that includes a power tab, a repeater board, a filter unit, and a one-half 19-inch rack housing. During HD productions, it sits halfway between a mobile unit and the LDK 6000 mk II in the field. It regenerates and amplifies the video signals transferred from

the base station and the camera and, in this way, doubles the maximum triax cable length to up to 6,560 feet.

In addition to the LDK 6000 mk II series, the triax repeater supports our LDK 6200 HD (an HD Super SloMo camera), LDK 5000 (an HD-upgradeable SD camera) and, in studio configurations, a Grass Valley SuperXpander Kit.

The LDK 4502 and LDK 4503 come with three 1.5 Gb/s HD-SDI outputs. They also support three optional 270 Mb/s SDI outputs—as well as three optional analog outputs that you can program in the installation menu to be either R, G ,B or three times CVBS, or Y, Pr, Pb.

The ability of the base stations to support HD and SD outputs offers the ultimate in flexibility: you can produce in SD one day, in HD the next, or output both simultaneously. Having SD as well as HD outputs also lets you facilitate a gradual and managed transition from SD to HD.

Damage-Protected Connector Panel

The ears on either side of the back panel of the base stations protect all connectors from damage, including the triax connector. The triax connector itself can easily be mounted at different angles to suit all mounting requirements.

Modularity Means Flexibility

The modular design of the LDK 4502 and LDK 4503 make them a cost-effective fit for the requirements of your application. You can expand their functionality by simply adding new modules, quickly exchange modules for service, or swap modules among camera base stations.

Monitoring Module

This module encompasses the analog HD video domain. Its outputs provide four switchable signals (R, G, B, and Y), which are simultaneously available on a WFM output for waveform monitor-based analysis. The module also includes a conventional VGA connector, which provides R, G, B, H-sync, and V-sync signals for relatively low-cost analog HD monitoring via an appropriate computer monitor.

Audio and Advanced Intercom Module

This module provides four-channel intercom and two-channel audio signals from the camera. You can choose between a four-wire or a two-wire intercom system in the installation menu; either way, you can designate a channel as a data channel for private data. You can even add an engineering intercom module to create a five-channel, full-featured intercom.

Using this module, your high-quality audio from the camera head passes to the different outputs via balanced line drivers for clean transparent sound. You can control gain levels remotely from a base station or from a master control panel.

The module also includes a 1 kHz test-tone generator and voice mail system. The voice mail system stores messages from a combination of sources, such as program, production, and engineering.

Engineering Intercom Module

This module provides two-channel intercom communications between a camera operator and engineering. It fits into the front of the base station and allows you to plug a headset in and set levels for both ears. It is ideal for a simple intercom facility in a standalone mode, or to expand the four-channel advanced intercom (see above) to a five-channel intercom system.

External Video Input Module

This module provides two analog video inputs and loop-through analog outputs or optional SDI inputs. The signal can be PAL or NTSC, and does not need to be clamped. It can also be non-synchronized.
