Christmas Blessings

This month we are all about joy! We’re celebrating a whole bunch of holidays and all the wonder-ful things that have happened this year. There have been a lot! And I’m going to let you in on my Christmas Wish.

My wish is to reach as many people as possible. I wish to meet them where they are and bring them in to community in whatever form they will accept. To do that, my list is one thing -- a part time assistant minister who will con-centrate solely on social media. This person will create a presence online that serves both those who are not geographically close and those who want more access to their community during the week.

Now, I get that this adds about $13,000 to the budget just to start, but Wish Lists aren’t supposed to be about what’s reasonable, right?

See, the thing I’ve learned is that if you don’t ask for what you want, you won’t ever get it. Many of us, me included, have been taught not to ask for too much. As a religious scientist, I’ve also been taught

that Spirit will make a way and no amount is too much. So your homework this month is to think about what you really want. What would bring you real joy? Tell the Universe you want that for the holidays, not just a pair of socks. The Universe gives gener-ously of its infinite abundance. So this is an act of trust – to name what you really want and then let Spirit provide it.

Since the dawn of humankind our species has experienced a call-ing from a seemingly invisible source. In 1951, Ernest Holmes described it as “…a humanity that we have not yet met – a Divinity hidden within each of us.” Our teaching calls forth our highest selves and our daily lives are being guided, sustained and inspired by what we find. I’m seeing it work-ing inside and outside the Center’s four walls, and am so grateful for ways we all bring some measure of our finest selves toward a world that works for everyone.

This is written at a time and in the reality of spiritual growth, joy, great gratitude and many blessings all around. At the same moment, neighbors and friends are expe-riencing the tragedy and hurt of uncontained fires, the sorrow and grief over loved ones lost to vio-lence and the abusive rhetoric of a

‘them and us’ mentality. Emotions want somehow to make sense of it or affect some small change for the better. I want to weep over it, but realize it wouldn’t make any difference. So I can hand-write notes to a few people I know in California and adjust my holiday spending to include some money sent to a Center who can distribute it where most needed.

Then, from somewhere deep within, comes a few thoughts re-membered; “The Divine within so often hidden cannot be destroyed, cannot even be hurt!” “To affect change, be the change!” My com-munity and I can grow together and heal together. We can go beyond giving hungry folks some food to

giving whoever wants the tools and the knowledge to feed themselves using a 4x4x6 hay bale. What a wonderful way to honor a master teacher whose life we celebrate this month and being the change inspired by his greatest three-word idea: “Love one another!”

Best Blessings of the season!Mel Hirsch, RScP

The Heart Connection …Connects!! The Baker’s Dozen are 13 active members who lovingly connect within our spiritual community. In joy we now announce our newest members; Sarah Thomas, Team 2, Joanne Carson, Team 4 and John Brown, Team 7. Welcome, welcome and thank you for stepping forward! Several team leaders suggested we have a special time to learn more about each other. In mid-November our first ‘gathering’ was a breakfast. It was fun, informative and an hour well-spent. The Baker’s Dozen wants to serve other CSLP Circles by sharing current information and ideas. We also send emails, greeting cards and make phone calls. We welcome input from all who will share their ideas. Please give us your comments of how we can also serve this com-munity. Our faces and phone numbers are on the west wall of Sibley Hall. Feel free to give us a call. Beth Mosier, 928-445-7135Kyra Molitor, 830-837-4155Sharon Tice, 928-445-3026

At this writing the weather has just turned cold and the winter holidays are upon us. Our bookstore is in full swing following the Crafty Christmas Fair used book sale. Thanks to everyone for donating your used books!

This past month you have chosen to name the bookstore “The Power of the Word Bookstore,” as suggested by Andy Hofer. Andy will be stenciling the name on the wall.

The bookstore is a wonderful place for books and gift shopping. Please stop by and check it out. We thank you for help-ing to make our bookstore a success.

We are so pleased by the recent attendance of our program. It brings us such joy to see our chil-dren connecting with each other and their greater connection to themselves. We are so grateful for all the people who make the program possible: the children, their parents, our teachers, and the congregation as a whole. We could not do this without all of you!

Interfaith Activity: The CAA had an wonder-ful time with the kids from the Temple B’rith Shalom working on the boxes for the food drive during the Quad City Interfaith Council’s Night of Thanks. We were able to share our faith tradi-

tions, learn about the Jewish faith, and make some new friends. We look for-ward to continuing our newfound friendships.

December Curriculum: In December, we will continue to look at how other faiths celebrate, the basis of their celebrations, and how it connects to our phi-losophy of life. We look forward to a month of joy and celebration.

The Explorers: We are excited to offer more programming for youth of all ages in our community. December will mark the first month that The Explorers will meet. This program will be held on the first Sunday of the month and is intended for middle school students. The students will deal with the same concepts as discussed with the younger children, but in a more mature way.

We look forward to a great 2019!Best, Erin and Di

The Theater Arts Circle was conceived of as a way to bring existing and future creative circles, like the writers’ and music circles, to-gether for performance opportunities. We will host the CSLP talent show, and other events, and we plan eventually to mount theatrical productions at CSLP. Please join us for our first meeting on Saturday, November 17th at 1:30 p.m., and every third Saturday after that. This week we will discuss and refine our vision for the circle, division of responsibilities, and best practices. The talent show will take place on Saturday, January 26th--time to be determined. For more information please speak with Clay Smith, Bob Joslin or Kyra Molitor.

Judge Thomas Troward delivered these lectures in Scotland in 1904, and they have served as the touchstone for metaphysical thinking to this day. Troward’s mind is logi-cal, brilliant, and extremely precise. This class is excellent for the serious student of New Thought.

allowing Divine wholeness to Flow through Me

I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my maker. --- JOB 36:3

Today I consciously let go of every discord. I drop all sense of lack or limitation from my thought, and every belief that I have ever had in lack or fear. I now have a belief in success and faith. I permit the Spirit within me to express Itself in perfect freedom, bringing increasing joy into my experience. I allow the Divine Wholeness to flow through me into ever-wid-ening fields of activity. Every good that I have ever experienced is now increased tenfold. Every joy that I have ever experienced is now multiplied. There is a new influx of inspiration into my thought. I see more clearly than ever before that my Divine birthright is freedom, joy, and eternal goodness. I perceive this same birthright is bequeathed to all people. As I look out into nature, it responds with a thousand joys of beauty and harmony. As I look deep into the souls of people I perceive the Divine Image implanted within them. Sorrow is now turned into joy, the belief in death into the certain knowl-edge of an eternal expansion. The sun of hope rises, nevermore to set, and all power is delivered unto me. This power I use for my own and every other man’s good. This Divine Presence interprets Itself to me in love and friendship, and peace, joy, and goodness are mine now and forever.

---Ernest Holmes, 365 Science of Mind, Page 137

VISITATION MINISTRY During the month of October 2018, nine team members reported visiting (actual or telephone) nine separate indi-viduals; a total of 22 visits were made. In addition, the team participated in one virtual prayer circle for an individual un-dergoing a medical procedure. Would you like a visit, telephone call, Prayer Circle or Virtual Prayer Circle by the Visitation Team for yourself or another? A Virtual Prayer Circle is performed when it is impractical to be at the hospital. A Virtual Prayer Circle is when each member goes into prayer at a designated time, wherever they are, for an individual undergoing a medical procedure. The team will, upon request, provide food and transportation when and where needed for those being vis-ited. If this is for you, please contact the Pastoral Care Co-ordinator, David Sharer RScP at (928) 771-2791. The team loves to serve by making visits and praying with you.Love & LightDavid Sharer, RScP

Making the Most of the holidays

During the months of November and Decem-ber there is a great deal of emphasis put on the holidays celebrated here in the United States…that is, Thanksgiving and Christmas. For some it is a joyous time filled with excitement, anticipa-tion and fun activities. That is not the case for a lot of people. There are those who may have suf-fered the loss of a loved one around the holiday time, those who do not have family nearby and may be feeling isolated or suffering from ‘holi-day blues.’ Or maybe they just don’t like all the commercialism around the celebration. How can we deal with this and still make the most of the holidays? Remember we have choic-es. First, I start off with feelings of gratitude and look at what I already have or am. Then, I pick out the things I enjoy most about the holidays and spend time participating. That for me is holiday celebrations, listening to a lot of Christ-mas or holiday music and enjoying the beautiful lights that decorate the night sky. We also have the choice to not participate and simply enjoy our own company or the company of a few friends. One does not have to be frantic during this time. But...the most important thing to remem-ber is just to enjoy and be grateful for all those people we come in contact with, all those indi-viduals who do good deeds to help others cope and to remember that love can come in many ways and many forms. We just need to be open to all the possibilities. Grace McManus, RScP
