Janice Ernest came loaded for bear—-or at least, for alligators with her presentation on “How to make money with your writing.”

Using alligator hunting as a parable to illustrate the freelancing process and how to get started in it she made the concept of finding , hunting down, sub-mitting, and accepting publication into an easy ex-ample in order to give writers more confidence in their endeavors to get their name and their writing out on the market.

Some of the items which she addressed included :

Basic Accounting

The Discipline it takes to succeed.

Getting Organized

Time Studies and how they help

Your Writing Resume, 60 second elevator speech, bio, and brainstorming about what you’ve written.

And an assessment of What do you really want? And what are you willing to do to obtain it?

Her lecture is being followed by a tandem blog by herself and Creative Life Coach, Nikki Brown and will include steps to success in writing and in life.

Janice, who has continued to learn and enlarge her knowledge base about life, writing, and self aware-ness, will be sharing tools which she is using to make money with her writing.

Nikki will be discussing assistance in overcoming obstacles for the writer and for life in general and focusing on coaching for writers.

We invite you to join in this eight week series of blogs. Starting June 17, 2017 and going for the next

eight weeks. Read them at: www.janiceernest.com and at coachnikkib.com.

Janice Received Certificate of Appreciation for her speech, “Making Money With Your Writing,” from Linda Pirtle, President of the East Texas Writers Guild.

Our Speaker for June 2017 was Janice Ernest Speaking on Make Money with Your Writing

Now, Raise Your Right Paw and Re-peat After Me:

I, (Your Name Here), promise to read and review books published by ETWG members, and to share in-formation about their successes, signings, interviews, with everyone I know on Facebook, Twitter, Blog, and other social media outlets.

All this in the knowledge that, when I am published, have an event, or in-terview, my fellow ETWG members will promote me.

Looking for something good to read? Pat LaVigne suggests: THE IMMORTAL IRISHMAN;

The Irish Revolutionary Who Became an American Hero

Thomas Francis Meagher grew up in the midst of the famine, which plagued Ireland in the mid-nineteenth century. He saw the ravages of illness, starvation, untimely death, and the persecution of his beloved Ireland by the British government. Thomas was gifted with the ability to speak his mind, and speak his mind he did from the early days as a young man. He had a self-imposed mis-sion in life. He wanted to do all he could to alleviate the suffering all around him. From his home in Waterford, Ireland, he fought against those who were intent on oppressing all Irish, using the potato crop failures as fodder to force the people to acquiesce to English law. Thom-as caused such uprisings against the British that he was banished from Ireland and sent to Australia, to serve a life sentence in their penal system. Six months later, Thomas escaped, and through the help of friends, was able to arrange passage on a ship that would take him to America. He barely survived while waiting for that ship. His reputation as a “savior” for the Irish preceded his arrival in New York City. Thomas gained new opportunities to rally the Irish immigrants, whose lives were not much better than they had been in Ireland. During the years leading to the Civil War, Thomas, involved in the anti-slavery movement in the North, was also con-cerned for the Irish who had settled in the South. Events led to his involvement in the actual fighting as the Civil War began, and the War Department received the request to make Thomas a general of the Irish military, which he had brought together. Request was granted, and Thomas became a hero once more in his adopted homeland. Thomas Meagher went on to become governor of Montana. His death at age forty-three was much too soon for the man who had spent his life fighting for people oppressed by external forces. Timothy Egan has done extensive research in Ireland and the United States to put together a fasci-nating story of a man who loved to talk, and used his gift to become an outstanding hero in two coun-tries.

The leader of this month’s Nutz & Boltz was Brin-da Carey. She brought a display showing many dif-ferent tools to use with your writing: A journal jar full of prompts Writers Digest Magazine—and showed how you can find prompts and contests in Writers Digest along with opportunities to submit to other journals and magazines. A photograph—-her advice: Take a photograph and begin to write down everything you see in it, then write down about the date or event pictured. Oftern times, good writing comes from this exercise. Observation—She stated always take a note book every where you go and write down your observa-tions and snipets of what you hear, see, touch , smell, etc. This can also be helpful to use when writing. She then lead the guild members in three writing exercises in order to stretch their creativity and not-ed that these exercises are good to help break through writers block. Everyone had a good time sharing their work and it was interesting to hear the different voices. Re-seults ranged from Poetry to prose. All of it inter-esting and different. A talk then ensued about what several writers have done to stave off writer’s block. Nancy Larson told of how she was stuck in one of the books of her Galveston series, and was walking back and forth to think What to do, what to do. In her walking back and forth she turned on the raqdio and Little Big Town was playing their song, Torna-do. It was as if her praqyers had been answered. She immediately went to her typewriter and put in a tor-nado in her story. The point being inspiration can come from anywhere.. If you missed this Nutz & Boltz you missed a lot of fun, fellowship, and good information. Hope to see you there in July. Till then, happy writing.
