Preparation for Worship
Easter Morning
(Author Unknown)
As the world sings triumphant cries to heaven over death that you con-
quered, help us, Lord, tomorrow as well−when the Easter clothes are put
away and the candy is all eaten and on with life we go, let us not forget.
The celebration of your Resurrection over death is a celebration of life that
should continue well beyond the sunrise service and the music, rehearsed
for days prior; it is beyond the sign of spring, beyond the lily, beyond new
lambs grazing in open fields.
Resurrection is a daily celebration over fear; our greatest and most power-
ful enemy. Fear of tomorrow, fear of our yesterdays, fear of what shall be-
come of our young our old our unborn. Resurrection is replacing fear with
physical action.
This alone, the most touching and profound of your signs that fear is dead
and belief in You is real, brings not just hope but life.
What better living parable could You have brought? All fear death. All.
Even in the garden, You took on our fear if for only moments. It was as
real as our fears can be real and You knew then that this single enemy
must be destroyed.
And, You sacrificed your life, leaving those who had been comfort and fol-
lowers; You left them behind, to conquer fear.
I shall cling to this now, and the tomorrows given me.
Peace and thanksgiving lifted unto you.
Amen.

Welcome and Announcements
Passing of the Peace
Leader: The peace of the Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Call to Worship
Leader: Where voices are silent and hurt and emptiness seems to hold sway,
People: Wherever footsteps stumble, hearts are heavy, and our lives
ache for renewal,
Leader: Where hopes falter and praises fall mute, Easter’s message breaks
forth:
People: Christ the Lord is risen! Sin and death are defeated!
Leader: Christ the Lord is risen! The tomb’s word is not the last word!
If every voice were silenced, even the stones would shout aloud:
Christ the Lord is risen!
People: He is risen indeed!
Hymn #232 Jesus Christ Is Risen Today
Prayer of Confession
Gracious and Merciful God, forgive us for not always realizing that we
need your renewal and grace; for being self-satisfied and for thinking that
our discipleship is ever truly sufficient. Forgive us for thinking that our
relationships are beyond repair, our faith beyond recovery, our hearts
and our habits beyond restoration. Because we can trust this truth: that
Easter’s empty tomb shows just how far you will go to claim us as your
own and that no place we find ourselves is beyond your reach. Bless and
restore us by your grace and power. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Assurance of Forgiveness
One: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting unto everlasting.
As far as the East is from the West, so far has God removed our
transgression from us. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are all forgiven.
People: Thanks be to God.
