A Little Lifetime in

a DayWhen you think about it,

each day is like alittle lifetime;

with the rising Sun the day is born;

then a little work, a little play –

some tears perhaps,some laughter, and time

erases all thereafter!

The Earth keeps turning. Clocks keep

ticking – all inevitable!As we wind our

way ‘til the end of theday. Soon, back to

sleep, again.Ah! Is there

anything better? Night brings rest...

We close our tired eyes stars and dreams

come onas our day is done.

Morning, noon, evening and night;

a little lifetimehas had its run.

Another day has comeand gone, slipped

through the fingers oftime forever! Forever!

Santa Lucia S.E.E.P. Program Winds Down the Summer

With a new school year right around the corner,Santa Lucia's S.E.E.P. program ended on a high note.Recently, students enjoyed a very educationally funfilled field trip to Chicago’s Field Museum of NaturalHistory. Children go to see what extinct prehistoricdinosaurs looked like as they roamed the Earthmillions of years ago.

Magnificent dinosaur bones gave the children agreat visual of the enormous sizes these creatureswould have been. Students saw images, hieroglyphics,and mummies from ancient Egypt, even their pet cats,who were revered and mummified too! As childrenexplored the museum, they saw and learned so manynew and interesting things. To enhance this theme,Mrs. Laura Shortino, Mrs. Annette Hoffmann, and Ms.Ashley Rogers, along with their trusted aides, plannedsome really cool projects and play centers for theweek: painting dinosaurs and naming them, pretendingto be a dinosaur or have a pet dinosaur and makingdinosaur footprints and fossils.

The students ended the final week by visiting PGNFun Village in Hickory Hills, where the kids got tojump around in bouncy houses, play in the KiddiePlayland which was filled with slides, rope climb,play in tons of ball pits, have some mini golf tournaments, and play in the arcade to win tickets for prizes.To top off the last week of S.E.E.P., students enjoyedhaving a pizza party with English muffin pizzas theymade themselves! We would like to thank all the people who made Santa Lucia’s summer program a success once again! Have a great school year everyone!

Pappas Returns $32Million in Overpayments

to TaxpayersA program to avoid duplicate property tax payments

has handed back $32.3 million to property owners thisyear, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas said today.

The Stop Taxpayer OverPayment System (STOPS)automatically returns a second tax payment on a property. Nearly 6,100 double payments were prevented in2017. “The program has been helpful to property owners by letting them avoid seeking a refund,” Pappassaid. “STOPS also has allowed us to reduce our staff,which saves money for all taxpayers.”

The STOPS program helps taxpayers who have forgotten that they have already paid their taxes. Sometimes, itprevents married couples from paying the taxes separately. More often the program comes into play when twomortgage companies try to pay the same tax bill.
