Assemblies and Special Events

Assembly on Gratitude

The more grateful you are for things you have today, the more things you will have to be grateful for tomorrow.

With this thought in mind, the students of Delhi Public School, Hyderabad, organised a special assembly on Friday, 14th June, 2019 themed ‘Gratitude’, which was attended by the Principal, Mrs. Geetha Vishwanathan, Headmistresses, Coordinators, Ex-Dipsites from the batch 2018-19, teachers and students of grades XI and XII.

The assembly began with a prayer song, as a way for the students to express gratitude towards the almighty, following which a speech was rendered by the Head Boy, Tanish Goel, to shed light on the importance of being grateful for everything that one has in life, whether it be considered positive or negative. Following the speech, students from batch 2018-19 proceeded to take over the podium and expressed their love and gratitude towards Delhi Public School, Hyderabad, Principal and the faculty members for having given them a platform to discover their true worth and potential. Then, as a token of appreciation, they gifted the school a Glass Podium to extend their sincere respect towards the institution. After they signed off and took their position amongst the student-teacher audience, Principal Mrs. Geetha Vishwanathan inaugurated the Glass Podium and proceeded to address the gathering with a simple thought - that the act of gratitude is what makes you successful. The assembly concluded with a Vote of Thanks rendered by the Head Girl, Shavika Kapoor and the audience proceeded to return back to their respective classes.

Not only did the students witness how small ways of expressing one's gratitude towards the people who help and support them makes one happy, but also how this simple action has the power to inspire a lot more to keep walking down the path of life, while staying humble and grateful to everyone and everything they come across.

Telangana Formation Day Assembly

The Telangana Formation Day was commemorated with an excellent programme put up by the students of VI E on the 17th of June 2019 through a special assembly. The occasion was graced by the Principal and the Headmistresses. The celebration commenced with a melodious choir invoking the blessings of the almighty. The students then put up a very colourful show where many facts about Telangana were enumerated in a very lucid manner. The students were told about the people who actively contributed to the betterment of Telangana from the pre-independence era to the present day. An interesting section pertaining to the well-known and some obscure tourist destinations in Telangana was presented in the form of a skit. The reason for the region being named Telangana was also explained. The well sequenced programme ended with a quiz on Telangana in which the audience actively participated. On the occasion of Telangana Formation Day the school has taken an initiative to help in the aforestation drive in a unique way. Some students from middle school were taken to the nearby Malkam Cheruvu where they scattered beej balls. These beej balls are a mix of clay, compost and seeds from plants native to Indian climate. Scattering beej balls is an easy way to help a struggling ecosystem. If the native seeds are scattered normally then they are often eaten up by animals or washed away by the rain – but the seeds in the beej balls are protected inside a ball. When it rains, the clay in the ball holds the water and helps the seeds to germinate. When the seeds germinate, the compost will help the seedlings grow. The programme on the occasion of Telangana formation day ended with our Principal Ms. Geetha Vishwanath congratulating the performers on the excellent show put up by them.

“All the magic lies in the harmony of many interdependent folds.” -Robert Salazar

The wonderful art of Origami was unleashed through a very interesting Inter-house competition conducted for Grade I students on 18th June 2019, which had an exciting participation from all the students. Origami is the art of folding paper which transforms a flat square sheet of paper into a finished structure through folding. The theme for the contest was based on ‘Environment’, a theme which is loved by every age group. The tiny tots were at their creative best while they used their little fingers to create various wonderful things like – fishes, pine trees, huts, boats and what not. Children took the contest to an entire next level by combining these origami structures to depict beautiful scenes from our environment like – fishes swimming under water, forest scene with huts in between, boats rowing in a river – which are just to name a few.

It was an absolutely engaging experience for the children while they patiently worked through the colourful origami papers producing beautiful outcomes. It was a treat to watch the little wonders all involved with this very interesting art form.

“I dream of painting and then I paint my dream.” - Vincent Van Gogh

Having experienced the early showers of monsoon, nature started filling itself with colours. With this frame of mind, soon after the summer holidays, students of grade III participated in a painting competition. Students were allowed to draw and colour a scenery depicting nature.

First, students recalled the places they visited during their summer vacation and started to transform their mental picture onto the paper. Slowly, but steadily they filled in colours trying to portray all the details captured in their mind. They used different mediums of colours to bring out their best. Many of them used the technique of mixing colours to enhance the natural affect.

Some of the budding artists composed scenes of sunrise over the mountains, sunset behind a lake, the shadow of a bird perched on a barren tree under the moonlight, a family of ducks happily swimming in a pond and so on. It was a pleasure to see tiny hands colouring the picture with a rhythm and checking with their partners if their picture was good.

All the pictures resonate only one thing – Nature wears the colours of the spirit.

This inter house competition provided a form of platform for self-expression with the creativity of words and emotion to convey a message to the audience. Children were given the opportunity to recite poems on the theme ‘Nature’ written by the published poets as well as their own original poems. The students were not only judged by the words used in the poem, but the voice, volume, inflexion, pitch, pauses and the presentation contributed to the entire recitation experience. The students thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience and the poems were brought to life with the passion and vocal expression of each and every student.

-Vinod Narayan

India, world’s fastest growing economy stares at some very challenging environmental issues like – Air pollution, Water pollution, Garbage management, Unchecked use of plastic, Loss of Biodiversity and ground water depletion. Responsibility of handling these challenges not only lies with the government but needs an active participation from each and every one of us. Schools can play an important role in creating awareness among children, thereby generating awareness in their families. One such step is to conduct interesting competitions to build students’ interest. An inter-house competition – “Slogan Writing” based on theme – ‘Environment’ was conducted for students of Grade V on June 22nd, 2019. Award and Accolades Felicitating the Illumind Star Performers

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically, Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education.” - Martin Luther

Most of us would agree unanimously on the fact that the sole purpose of education is to make us better human beings from an intellectual level. It should teach us skills that help us think better, have clarity of our visions and goals, come up with precise action plans and application strategies.

To inculcate this habit in children, ‘ILLUMIND’ an in-house OLYMPIAD Contest was organised for children, by Delhi Public School, Hyderabad from classes 1to 4 in the year 2018-19. Apart from regular curriculum, students were also prepared with Olympiad to give exposure about competition and make them ready to face any competitive challenge that would be thrown open to them in the future.

The main objective being to recognize the young geniuses and generate a talent pool for the future and also encouraging students to go all-out for better. Awards do not only acknowledge success; they recognise many other qualities: ability, struggle, effort and above all, excellence. On 25th June 2019 certificates were awarded to last year’s grade 1 students for a combination of intelligence, perseverance and hard work.

Trophies were given to Champions and Certificates were given to students who secured above 80%. It was surely a significant and meaningful ceremony which was concluded with a motivational thought “No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up and never give up”.

National Science Concours “Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world.”

National Science Concours is an annual Olympiad, which inculcates this very ideology of learning by doing. It consists of an online test round and a project round. Every year, lakhs of students from across the country strive to be winners at this competition and dipsites have always secured a place in this camp. Theme of the Month “It’s hard to workout but will never give up staying healthy and strong as the days are long and the years are short”. Encouraging children to adopt healthy habits early in their lives is an integral part of learning experience and also an excellent way to incorporate the best practices concerning health, to bring an element of harmony in their lives. Children are very inquisitive and instinctive by nature. They learn through hands on experience in any activity. In this connection, our spirited little Dipsites were introduced to various intriguing activities as part of the novel theme of the month “Health Fest” that lasted for a week. The central objective of the theme was to steer the young minds towards adopting a lifestyle with healthy habits while exposing them to various awareness activities filled with fun. During this week-long celebration, children revisited their lessons on health and hygiene as they learn the importance of healthy habits, establishing and following routines, healthy eating and physical well-being. Each day of the week was dedicated to varied healthy habits while giving them a true learning experience. Creative games on healthy eating, rhythmic aerobics, pep talk on healthy manners and group activity on healthy habits were planned as part of the week long celebrations. To understand healthy eating habits, kids were taken through some fascinating creative games like sorting of fruits and vegetables, hurdle race, body balancing and many more throughout the week. In the process of doing these activities, kids not just develop math skills, literacy skills but also get exposed to myriad of colours and textures pertaining to food. Children love indulging in physical activities -adopting this strategy with emphasis on fitness, rhythmic aerobics was conceived for our ever zestful Dipsites. The children were engaged in making vibrant, majestic head bands with a message “BE FIT TO BE HIT” as part their activity which was a major take away for the week and also to reiterate the learning of the health week, the kids were encouraged to share the healthy habits they learnt during the week. The week long proceedings came to a crescendo by showing them stories on healthy habits using audio visual aids. Overall, it was an inexplicable joy watching the little ones enjoying the thematic activities.
