    Instructions for applicants Applicants for the position of Head of Middle School at Villanova College are asked to ensure that the following documentation is submitted by the due date:

    1. A one-page letter addressed to the Principal, outlining your interest in the position.

    2. A statement of no more than five pages in total addressing the Selection Criteria.

    3. The completed Application Form (Teaching Position).

    4. The names and contact details of at least three referees, one of whom must be the applicant’s current employer.

    5. A current Curriculum Vitae, including your QCT registration number (separate document).

    6. A certified copy of your relevant academic transcripts/records. Please note that this is not your graduating certificate.

    HEAD OF MIDDLE SCHOOL

    Selection Criteria

    The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

    • Be an active member of the Catholic Church with a strong commitment to promoting the teachings of the Church

    • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the Augustinian charism • A track record of educational leadership to manage change successfully and deliver

    continuous school improvement • Demonstrated experience leading a strong, contemporary and challenging curriculum,

    delivered through the framework of the Australian Curriculum • A track record of building and mentoring highly effective teams • Skills to develop, review and deliver school strategy and operational plans • Ability to motivate and engage staff, students and parents to ensure a climate of support and

    high expectations • Experience of integrating and enabling technology for learning and using data to track student

    performance • Experience of implementing wellbeing policies and programmes • Experience leading professional development and performance management of staff • Effective management and monitoring of all school administration and operations • Excellent communication skills in a range of formal and informal settings • Extensive teaching experience, preferably in Religious Education • Post graduate qualifications in education, leadership, religious education or theology

    Conditions of Employment

    Remuneration The total remuneration package will be discussed at interview with shortlisted candidates.

    Tenure A five-year contract is offered with the provision of a second five-year contract subject to a successful review and continued designation of the role. All employees are subject to a six-month probation period under the Fair Work Act.

    Technology/Communication Provisions The College will provide the Head of Middle School with a laptop computer to fulfil his/her duties. This item will remain the property of the College and should be adequately maintained by the Head of Middle School. A mobile phone payment will be included.

    Salary Packaging The Head of Middle School may elect to enter into a salary package arrangement. Southgate Salary Packaging and Salary Packaging Australia are the College’s current providers.

    Leave Entitlements The Head of Middle School will have sick leave and long service leave entitlements equivalent to those offered to teachers by Award or Enterprise Agreement in Queensland.

    Long service leave portability is covered under Intrastate/Interstate Catholic schools’ portability agreement. Sick leave is portable according to arrangements relevant to the State of Queensland.

    Annual leave for the Head of Middle School may only be taken in school holiday time.

    ROLE DESCRIPTION 1.0 POSITION TITLE: Head of Middle School

    2.0 PURPOSE/SCOPE OF POSITION – KEY RESULT AREAS

    The Head of Middle School is a religious and educational leader at Villanova College. The Head of Middle School contributes to a 5-12 culture by assisting the Principal to achieve connectedness and continuity of learning across the entire College. The Head of Middle School is delegated significant, high level responsibilities in support of the Principal. The Head of Middle School has specific leadership and management responsibilities for Years 7 - 9 of the College and works with other senior leaders to ensure alignment between the various phases of learning. In addition, the Head of Middle School has delegated responsibilities that span the entire College. In partnership with colleagues and through the support of the Order of St Augustine the Head of Middle School at Villanova College is required to: 2.1 Faith Leadership

    • Articulate and promote an Augustinian vision of faith, love and truth sought in community

    • Provide faith leadership through personal example, by fostering the religious life of the College and providing a sound religious education program.

    2.2 Educational Leadership

    • Develop and implement high quality learning and teaching programs and monitor outcomes.

    2.3 Staff and Community Leadership

    • Contribute to the development of the vision, mission and strategic goals of the College, in alignment with the Strategic Plan.

    2.4 Organisational Leadership

    • Develop and maintain processes to manage physical and financial resources in order to deliver the educative programs of the College.

    3.0 STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY

    The leadership and direction provided by the Head of Middle School will be consistent with Catholic teachings, principles and values; the Villanova College Strategic Plan; Augustinian values, policies and practices; and Archdiocesan policies and directives.

    The Head of Middle School is responsible for providing effective leadership and management as delegated by the Principal to ensure that students receive a quality education and continuity of learning across Year 7 - 9 in accordance with Catholic faith and Christian principles. This is achieved through the Head of Middle School planning and regularly evaluating curriculum development, wellbeing programs, teaching programs, co-curricular activities and monitoring the efficacy of processes to support the core Religious and Educative dimensions.

    4.0 SCOPE OF THE POSITION

    Under each of the key result areas is a range of activities in which the role holder might engage in support of the Principal. The list is neither prescriptive or exhaustive. Individual Duty Statements may be developed to provide for specific guidance.

    4.1 Faith Leadership • Articulate and promote the community’s Mission as an Augustinian Catholic College • Nurture partnerships with Parish, Deanery, Archdiocesan communities and Church

    agencies. • Articulate and promote the College’s mission, vision and founding story. • Foster the Augustinian Catholic ethos and identity of the college community

    integrating beliefs and values into all aspects of college life and learning. • Articulate a contemporary understanding of theology and model attentiveness to

    their own spiritual formation for leadership. • Support staff spiritual and theological formation. • Support the ritual and liturgical life of the college. • Support opportunities for Christian community service and social justice. • Facilitate and support the Religious Education curriculum and the professional

    development of teaching staff. • Promote preferential options for the poor and marginalised.

    4.2 Educational Leadership

    • Support and promote a contemporary Augustinian Catholic educational vision with a focus on the student as learner and person.

    • Ensure that staff receive timely and constructive feedback to enhance classroom practice.

    • Facilitate effective pedagogy by maximising opportunities within the Year 7 - 9 learning environment.

    • Ensure college and classroom processes support diverse learning needs. • Develop and promote the use of data and educational research to inform and

    enhance practice. • Use and promote the Villanova College Curriculum Framework. • Support and promote collective responsibility and accountability for student

    achievement and wellbeing. • Support and implement a contemporary, holistic, high quality curriculum. • Facilitate and implement appropriate assessment and reporting processes. • Promote high expectations and standards and ensure systematic monitoring of

    4.3 Staff and Community Leadership • In collaboration with the Deputy Principal, recruit, select and induct staff

    effectively. • Ensure effective staff developmental learning and performance management,

    including monitoring, review and appraisal. • Support staff succession planning and leadership development. • Establish and effectively manage employee relations. • Develop healthy staff relationships and promote staff wellbeing. • Meet regularly with individual staff members. • Facilitate and support pastoral care and behaviour support programs which build a

    positive culture within the college community. • Facilitate positive working relationships with the Parish, the College Board and the

    College Support groups. • Facilitate and support meaningful partnerships with people and groups in the

    community. • Communicate effectively and resolve issues in a restorative way. • Manage staff and workplace practices efficiently and effectively.

    4.4 Strategic Leadership • Facilitate continuity and connectedness across the various phases of learning in

    support of the Strategic Plan. • Support the appropriate and equitable allocation of College resources in alignment

    with college action plans. • Manage aspects of the annual implementation of the College strategic plan. • Promote an Augustinian perspective in College deliberations. • Contribute to a culture of reflection, self-review and improvement. • Facilitate quality change processes. • Develop relationships that are strategically important to the College, including

    Parish, College Board and support groups. • Establish relationships by promoting and marketing the College in the community.

    4.5 Organisational Leadership

    • Facilitate the alignment of College policies, processes and activities with the College strategic plan.

    • Comply with policy and legislative requirements. • Facilitate the implementation of information technology. • Manage enrolments within policy and resources. • Provide appropriate risk management. • Support the establishment of efficient systems of data and records management

    and retention. • Maintain College facilities and resources effectively. • Adopt a Years 7-9 perspective to enhance effective communication and decision-

    making processes across all phases of learning.

    • Facilitate the engagement of communities in resource allocation processes that support the various phases of learning.

    5.0 AUTHORITY LIMITS

    The position carries full authority delegated from the Principal to the role holder to achieve the key result areas. There is authority within the role regarding expenditure of funds and supervision of other role holders within the College. Expenditure of funds must be in accordance with approved budgets and appropriately authorised.

    At all times, the Head of Middle School must act in accord with Villanova College Student Protection Policy. It is necessary that the role holder exercise judicious and prudent judgement in interactions with students.

    6.0 REPORTING AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS

    The Head of Middle School reports directly to the Principal. Other significant relationships exist with members of the College Leadership Team, College Board, Middle School Pastoral Area Leaders and Middle School Curriculum Area Leaders.
