Dear Candidate,

In response to being invited to provide a letter for the WPS Head of School Search Package, I asked myself the question: “What would I need to know as a candidate for the Head of Schoolrole in this school?” Thus, I have decided to share with you some of the philosophic operational framework that is foundational and which has significantly contributed to the meteoric success of Windermere Preparatory School over the past five years. These are some of the key elements that speak to who we are and of how we have done business that I believe our staff and community will want to ensure are preserved.

■ True to the Credo of Nord Anglia Education, we are ambitious in the delivery of an academic offering of the highest caliber that will enable our students to grow as young people and, upon graduation, to matriculate to their first choice college or university of best fit

■ We seek to be a contributing, positive member within the Nord Anglia Family of Schools

■ We like to win, and we always seek to exceed high performance targets

■ We are champions and advocates for our school, our staff, and our school families

■ We subscribe to the notion of Academics First… Immeasurably Enriched by the Fine Arts… and Complemented by Athletics and Activities

■ We are thoughtful, reflective and strategic in planning and strong in tactical execution

■ We are disciples of Jim Collins (Good to Great) in our shared belief that the right people in the right seats on the bus are our most important resource

■ We hold high performance expectations for both our students and all members of our professional team. We celebrate success enthusiastically and regularly

■ There is an exceptionally strong emphasis on appropriate, caring professional relationships with our students, their parents, and amongst one another in our school. We regard relationships as being the transactional currency through which everything of significance is accomplished in a highly successful school

■ We highly prize shared, collaborative decision making, and we place great importance on teamwork

■ We strive to honor the tenants of our school crest… Veritas, Virtus, and Unitas in all that we do

■ We operate in the fashion of a Golden Rule School ■ We put a premium on the exercise of Common Sense■ We highly value, and respect our parents as active partners with us in the formal

education of their children, and we provide multiple means for the expression of the Parent Voice in our school

■ We understand that parents process everything we say to and do with their child through the Lens of Unconditional Love for their child

■ We highly value and insist upon timely, regular, candid, and helpful communication between teachers and parents

■ In our work with our students, we believe that reasonable expectations should yield willing compliance. We are not interested in playing the game of “Gotcha!”

■ We laugh often, and we love and respect one another

Windermere Preparatory School is a wonderful, warm, and embracing community. The school has achieved much in its relatively short history. There is no doubt, whatsoever, that its best days are still to be experienced. Whoever is fortunate enough to be selected to fill this role will be surrounded by a team of seasoned, highly capable, dedicated, ethical and highly motivated professionals. I extend to you my best wishes as you move through the candidate selection process.

Sincerely,

Thomas L. Marcy, Ed.D.Headmaster

The world’s leading

premium schools organization

We know the difference that great teaching makes to a student’s success at school. We have developed a unique approach to teacher recruitment, training and support that ensures our students learn from the best.

Small class sizes mean that our teachers know every child individually and can respond to their strengths, adapting our learning model to help them overcome challenges. In addition to developing subject knowledge, our teachers nurture essential skills to equip each student to succeed in every aspect of their education.

Globally respected curriculaOur schools offer a variety of curricula for students ages 2-18 including the English National Curriculum, International Baccalaureate, Swiss Maturité, as well as American and French curricula. Most schools teach in English, although we have a number of bilingual schools in Europe, Southeast Asia and China.

World leading collaborationsWe also collaborate with world-leading organizations to ensure that our curricula and professional development for teachers are second to none. For our new approach to teaching the interdisciplinary subjects of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math), we have collaborated with the world leading university, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Our embedded performing arts curriculum, in collaboration with The Juilliard School, not only fosters a love for learning, but also develops transferrable skills that can be used in school, university and later on in life. In addition, we have teamed up with King’s College London to offer an Executive Master’s in International Education exclusive only to those working for Nord Anglia Education.

Our Global CampusWe offer students the Global Campus, enabling them to explore the world, learn new skills and set their sights higher by developing a truly international perspective through outstanding online, in-school and worldwide experiences. From online debates and challenges to expeditions in the savannah of Tanzania or competing in our Global Games, we inspire our students to be ambitious in their learning, both inside and outside the classroom.
