The coming month will have us thinking about what to buy our loved ones for the holidays so check out Moss Motors for the latest in gifts for your Healey owner and the Club website for Regalia and clothing ideas.
The Club Christmas/Holiday Party is coming up on the 14th, find more information later in this issue. Our Vice President, Steve Kirby, mentions some future events that will keep our cars on the road. The new, hopefully recurring, event in the Inland Empire and the January 1st Tour d' Orange.
One of our recurring events, Super Car Sunday, on December 7th has a temporary change of venue and name: the name is the 11th Toys4Tots and the venue is the Anthem parking lot in Warner Center, Woodland Hills. For club members who live in the foothill communities from Burbank to Duarte December 31st presents an opportunity to get the Healey on the road cruising up and down the Rose Parade route in Pasadena. Participants meet in the parking lot at the east end of the Sears store on E Foothill Blvd between Rosemead Blvd and Michillinda before 9:00am and start west on Colorado Blvd between 9:30 and 10:00.
Finally, on behalf of the past editor, Mike Scroggie, and myself I would like to thank everyone who has submitted newsletter articles over the past year. You are the people who keep us in-the-know about the happenings of the British car community and the classic car community as a whole. So Thank You.
And Happy Holidays to all! Tim

Happy Healeying,
Another year is almost over as we enter the Holiday season.
Our club has had a very successful 40th anniversary year
and we look forward to 2015. Kathy and I hope to see you at the Holiday/Christmas party on December 14th.
As I have previously reported, California Healey Week 2015 is going to be held in the desert.
To beat the heat, the CHW committee decided to have it later in the year when the weather is more accommodating.
We sent out a comprehensive Request for Proposal to 10 hotels in the desert cities and got back 7 proposals.
From the President!! ! ! ! ! ! Mike Scroggie

After a quick look at our family calendar, it’s pretty apparent that we’re going to have a busy end of the year….I suppose your
calendar is much the same.
Between family commitments, company events, making time for some shopping and a little end of the year travel, there’s not much light in the tunnel.
Even so, I hope you will carve out a little time for Club events. Our annual Holiday Party is shaping up to be a great event and in a convenient, central location. If it was a perennial hangout for Dean Martin and the Rat Pack, you know the food has got to be good! If you haven’t already signed up, look for the form in this newsletter.
Also not to be missed are the December 6 Inland Empire Cars and Coffee and the January 1st Tour d’Orange. And if you looking for something a bit different, check out the DC-3 rides and the 40’s Style New Year’s Eve “hanger dance” (flyer attached). Both something the “better half ” might enjoy more than another ride in the Healey.
Remember, “A happy wife is a happy life”.
And with that thought, I’m off to the mall to start my Christmas shopping!
Email: [email protected].
We narrowed the list down to the most acceptable and Steve & Cindy Kirby, Ed & Abbe Neumeyer and Kathy & I toured three of the hotels a few weeks ago. There was a clear winner…the Embassy Suites in La Quinta, see http://www.ivtlive.com/ebrochure/embassysuites/laquinta. It is a beautiful hotel and should be a great venue for CHW 2015. Save the dates: November 12-15, 2015.
With the end of the year, dues renewal invoices will be mailed out soon. Be sure and get your payment in soon and don’t miss out on any of next year’s activities. Kathy and I wish you and your family a happy and healthy Holiday season and New Year.

Under new Club guidelines, every “Club Event” must have a member “sponsor”. The sponsor’s job is to aSend the event, record the names of members in aSendance, and produce a short report for the newsleSer. The San Juan Capistrano Show looks like a good event at a Ume when not much else is going on. Does someone want to “sponsor” this show so we can make it a designated Club event? 36 British cars made the drive to Palos Verdes to have coffee and talk cars. The third Sunday of each month year round we meet at 9:00 am. A 3000 BT7 made into a BN7, with an Alfa Romeo 4 cylinder 150hp engine and 5-speed tranny showed up.

There was a considerable turnout Saturday, November 15th, at the United Artist Theaters in Montrose.
The crowd was into coffee and tire-kicking and looking over the cool and classic cars on display. Club members Kurt Albrecht, John Hedblom, Louie Fisher, Jeff Boysen, and Tim McNiff all had their Healeys out for the morning get-together; and Dennis Williams and Steve Gerow motored in in a very nice, very modern Ferrari.
Besides our cars, an Austin panel van and a Nash Metropolitan were on display. A lot of interest was paid to a customized Chevrolet that the owner said is his daily driver.
Our group, less Kurt and his buddy, repaired to a local restaurant for breakfast where talk turned to BN7's and whether to buy a second Healey, and should it retain its Concours status or be upgraded.
A fun and interesting morning!

I made a solo run down south on October 12th for the San Diego British Car Day. I joined Terry Cowan and other members of the San Diego Austin-Healey Club on the grass at the Embarcadero Marina Park. It was a beautiful day, mild and sunny, and the 12 Big Healeys and same number of Sprites were joined by a large showing of all types of British cars.

For those not "in the loop"....
My good friend Marty Hovivian has been storing my car in So Cal for the past several months and just made a one day trip, delivering the car to me in Las Vegas.
The car was wrapped in microfiber bed sheets and then "shrink wrapped" to keep everything from blowing off.

Club members attending the Wings, Wheels, and Rotors event held at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base left Ken Rocke's home at 8 AM, Sunday Oct 26th, and caravanned the short distance to the base. Attending with their Healeys were Lindsey Maine, Jay Miller, Greg Aden, Bob Bolling, Dexter Kaytis and Ken Rocke. We were also joined by Darryl and John Hedblom, George McHarris and Mike Newsome who came without classic cars. The weather was a perfect 72 degrees with a slight overcast.
Almost every make and model of vehicle was represented among the approximately 700 vehicles on display. Included were military, police and first responder vehicles, and cruise missile displays. Also on hand were almost every kind of food truck you can imagine. The best, according to Jay and Greg, was the Shrimp Po'Boy Truck. Our group was joinedby the L.A. Police Bagpipe Band as they looked over our Healeys. About a dozen vintage aircraft from the WWII era were on display, with rides being offered in a C-47 " goony bird", a Navy Steermanprimary trainer, as well as a Waco bi-plane which was used by the Army as a WWII primary trainer. The most popular vintage airplane was the T-6 Texan, which was used for advanced combat training.
As the day progressed all the entrants were being judged by military reservists and the Laker Girls. Club member Dexter Kaytis was awarded a trophy for his great looking 1960 BT7. "Congratulations Dex!"
Overall the day was an oppurtunity to visit with a great group of friends, tell a lot of car stories (some true), and solve all the world's problems.

Sunday, November 2, was the day for electric cars to be featured at Super Car Sunday in Woodland Hills. The turnout of electrics was rather small: about eight Tesla Model S's, a Tesla Roadster, a couple of Fords, and two Chevy Volts, and a VW bug that had been modified by the Automotive Technology students at Pierce College. –The Bug was interesting with its batteries in the luggage compartment and engine compartment wired into the drive train in the rear. –The Tesla Roadster, with a price tag of $190,000., had its engine governed through the onboard computer to top out at 125 mph.
Members Dex Kaytis and Tim McNiff with their 3000's enjoyed not only the electrics but also the classics like the Rambler American, the speed cars, the modified yellow bug drag racer next to the customized Ford with the overblown engine.
But the big hit of the morning was when a new Bugatti showed up and drew a crowd of appreciative fans.

Our Club event for November, 2014 was attending Cars & Coffee in Irvine followed by a drive to my garage in San Clemente for a Tech Session on paint chip repair. Members from all over the southland arrived at the Mazda/Ford complex for our monthly Cars & Coffee gathering. It was busier than usual, as several of us arrived after 6AM and were routed to the overQlow parking area.
We had a great turnout of Healey members, with 15 attending with their cars, including: Art Quillo, Peter Hurtgen, Rick Shoemaker, Joerg Hubl, Jess & Matt Pena, Peter Roses, John Hedblom, Jeff Boysen, Dennis Williams, Steve Gerow, Rich Heimann, Drew Ebright, Steve Kirby, Dexter Kaytis, Jay Miller and Mike Scroggie.
About 8:10AM, we left Cars & Coffee and began our drive to San Clemente. It was a beautiful, crisp but sunny morning as we progressed through Laguna Canyon to the ocean. We proceeded on PCH through Laguna, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and on to San Clemente, arriving a little before 9AM.
Over bagels and coffee, we car talked while awaiting the arrival of Steve Bode, “Quinn the Eskimo” who conducted the paint chip Tech Session.
When Steve arrived, he began by introducing the proprietary Dr. ColorChip automotive paint chip repair process and explaining the types of repairs he does and the techniques he uses. Steve then demonstrated the process by repairing several chips on my and Steve Kirby’s cars. He is able to match over 300 paint colors but prefers to know the car type and color before he arrives, so he can ensure a correct color match.
The process he uses is done in three steps:
1. Dabbing the chip or scratch with the Dr. ColorChip paint
2. Smearing the paint into the chip
3. After 5-‐10 minutes, wipe the applied area to remove the excess paint blobs
The result is amazing… it is difQicult to see where the Qlaws were prior to the repair. This process is really effective for removing “road rash” from chips caused by normal use.
The deeper the chip, the more difQicult it is to repair; but Steve was able to hide, if not remove, most of the Qlaws. To learn more about the Dr. ColorChip process and Steve’s services, see www.carpaintchiprepair.com.
Attending the Tech Session were most of the members from Cars & Coffee plus Joe O’Connell, Rodger Oetken and Greg Aden.
Following the Tech Session, we walked down PCH a couple of blocks to the Riders Club, home to the “Best Hamburger in San Clemente”, where we enjoyed hamburgers and beer.
All in all, a pleasant day was had by all attendees.

THERE’S MORE TO MOSS THAN CAR PARTS
I started buying parts from Moss back when Chris manned the counter on Dawson Street. My customer# is 15251. I’ve been treated like a friend instead of an occasional customer. Moss employees freely give of their time to help me keep my British relic running. One year, on the way to an event, 25 miles up the road from Moss, my car cracked an oil line. The gentleman who pulled my part from the warehouse delivered it on his lunch break. He wouldn’t accept any delivery fee.”

Healey Corral at Laguna Seca HistoricsThe Golden Gate Austin Healey Club has tentatively set up an Austin Healey Corral for parking during the Laguna Seca Historic Races on August 13-16. This is preferred parking adjacent to the track—not the general admission parking on the rough and dusty hilltops. We don’t yet know if the corral will be paved or dirt. A pass for corral parking costs $35 for 4 days. You can park only a Healey in the corral —no substitute cars. The corral fee does not include the admission fee to the races. You need not be a member of the GGAHC —just bring a Healey.
I need your message of intent to purchase a corral pass promptly so that we can keep the reservation. Once we have a quorum and confirm our reservation you will be able to buy the parking permit directly on the Laguna Seca web site. Do not send money to me.

MOSS MotorsChristmas Gift Ideas!Just in Ume for Christmas, Moss Motors has introduced three new AusUn Healey logo items that are perfect for gik giving….to yourself or others.
Their new Healey logo waterproof blankets bring a touch of comfort to any roadside picnic. Folded into a parcel, they can be easily stored and transported using their durable handles. The new plush floor mats, also featuring the wings Healey logo, are custom fit and add both sound and heat reducHon to those otherwise toasty floorboards.
Finally, Moss has produced two unique “blueprint” style drawings of the AH engine one in off white and one in tradiHonal blue.
All these items can be found on the Moss Website at www.mossmotors.com or on their new Zazzle store at www.zazzle.com/mossmotors.
