HEALING HANDS FOR HAITI
ANNUAL REPORT 2018
Letter from the President
1998-2018 and Healing Hands for Haiti (HHH) is 20 years old! My thanks goes to the founder of this institution,
Dr. Jeff Randle, to the pioneers, and to all those who have accompanied and journeyed with the institution
over the last 20 years, thus contributing to the maintenance of this exhilarating work. At the end of my four
(4) years of Presidency, I am pleased to share with you this report which summarizes the activities of Healing
Hands for Haiti for the year 2018.
The year 2018 began, and ended, with the ever-present financial challenges common to non-profit
organizations. Healing Hands for Haiti was nevertheless able to not only maintain the course, but to improve
and grow our services through thoughtful and strategic programming combined with efficiency and
administrative rigor, and to realize progression and enhancement of the quality of care provided to the
patients who attend our center.
So many different demands can only be sources of motivation, major challenges for a team of the united and
welded around humanist values, made of generosity, commitment to the service of others, solidarity,
willingness to bring the smile, the relief, the comfort in the life of those less equipped than us.
Although 2018 has been a difficult year, we nevertheless have made some remarkable advances in both
administrative and technical domains. Rehabilitative care, equipment for the production and distribution of
prosthetics and orthotic devices, support and aids to improve mobility of patients, and the strengthening,
stabilization of staff and overall the image of the Institution have been key priorities.
Despite the difficulties of cash flow, the strength of HHH lies in its ability to address a community of patients
with very diverse needs, and especially educate the general public and positively change opinions of people
living with a disability.
More and more patients are approaching HHH, which they identify as the reference care and Support Center
in the niche of quality care for people with disabilities. I thus keep the hope that our HHH will continue to
grow in the coming years and will have achieved its financial autonomy.
We all wish for the perpetuity of the Institution and we are working on it with ardor and determination.
Philippe R. Armand President

ANNUAL REPORT 2018
This report, covering the activities of Healing Hands for Haiti (HHH) for the period from January 2018 to

Directors of HHH. During this period, the clinic made considerable progress as summarized in this following
report.
HHH General Assembly
Each year, the members of the board of Directors of Healing Hands for Haiti, both national and international,
meet to review HHH activities. During this time decisions of the Board of Directors are taken, such as: election
of new members, revision of statutes, resolutions etc. The HHH annual general meeting was held in May 2018
at Verdure Sur Mer. It brought together twelve (12) members of the Board of Directors HHH, including seven
(7) local members and five (5) International members, the Executive Director and the three (3) managers of
HHH.
This year, HHH was pleased to welcome to its General Assembly, the regional Manager of ICRC/MoveAbility,
Mr. Michel Deffontaines.

2. PARTNERSHIPS
2.1 ICRC/MoveAbility
For the year 2018 MoveAbility continued to provide support to the physical rehabilitation sector in Haiti
through financial and technical support to HHH. The five objectives referred to by Moveability in its agreement
signed with the HHH are as follows: 1) The national sector of physical rehabilitation in Haiti is structured and
perpetuated. 2) The skills and knowledge of physical rehabilitation professionals are improved. 3) Healing
Hands for Haiti will provide quality physical rehabilitation services.
![Page 5: HEALING HANDS FOR HAITI (HHH) ANNUAL REPORT 2018 RE… · HHH ANNUAL REPORT 2018 Page 7 Project #2 Soroptimist International Club of Port-au-Prince , Amputee women's project Subsidized](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022050310/5f728b68dc0fc80207078972/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)

4) People with disabilities enjoy better access to the services of HHH and their social integration is actively
promoted. 5) The continuity of the services of the rehabilitation sector is ensured, the skills of the managers
of HHH are improved.
With the support of MoveAbility, HHH was able during the year 2018 to pay the salary of the technical adviser
P&O, the salary of the Executive Director. As in all past years, the P&O department has received a donation of
equipment and materials for the manufacture of prosthetics and orthotics.
MoveAbility has also contributed to the continuing training of the technical staff of HHH. The physiotherapists
and HHH prosthetics/orthotics technicians have benefited from the training of Don Bosco University, both in El
Salvador and in Haiti.
HHH has benefited from the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Haiti (MEF) a franchise allowing it to clear the
international order of MoveAbility orthopedic equipment, as well as the order of plaster purchased in St.
Domingo. This same franchise is used for clearance for physiotherapy equipment donated by LDS Church.
2.2 Estoraida/3D printing

support the payment of four (4) months salary for technicians in 3D printing until 30 June 2018.

TESTIMONY OF A CHILD OF THE CFNU PROJECT: SAMUEL LIMA
First I say thank you to God who allowed me to have this prosthesis and also to those who helped me to have it: CFNU and HHH. After losing my leg after the earthquake, I was sad compared to the other children who had both their legs and me only one. I was ashamed of myself because some of my comrades whisper about my case, and now I feel good, because I also have two legs like all the children thanks to my new prosthesis, and I am very satisfied and proud of me.

President of HHH facilitated this redevelopment. We thank and congratulate him.
An additional service will soon be available at HHH, PhysioPlus. This rather private PhysioPlus service will serve
patients who can better pay for their care. But HHH will offer the same quality of care to patients in both
community and private settings. The ground floor of Guest House, including the Team Canada Room, was

Despite the state’s lack of involvement in funding rehabilitation care, with the support of its local and international partners, HHH has continued to serve an ever increasing number of beneficiaries while building the capacity of its clinical staff through appropriate training and developing synergy between the different providers of care for the disabled.
12. PROSPECTS
For 2019, it is hoped that HHH, as a leader in rehabilitation in Haiti, will continue to play its full role. To this
end, Healing Hands for Haiti wants to increase the support it receives from its national and international
partners in order to continue to offer and improve its services to the population.
