issue in many countries and especially

diet.

Avoiding GMO’sAvoiding GMO's at the grocery store

things like pharmaceutical drugs,
invasive surgery and also give us
more control over our own health. One
new tool in the world of energy medicine is the Biomodulator
which is being used for everything from pulled muscles to
more serious injuries. With thousands of Biomodulator
devices in the U.S., they're making their way overseas as
well. The non-profit medical clinic 'Just Us Friends' in
Tanzania, serves poor children and uses the device to help
with everything from bug bites to malaria.

in recent years it's been the subject of

to health problems and been the
target of campaigns to restrict its use. So we consulted our
own experts to get a better understanding of not only how
much but what kind of salt is best for us.

This means they don’t contain the concentrated synthetic
chemicals that comprise most of the drugs we take today.

Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraOur Connection To EarthOne mistake of modern science,
according to Dr. Deepak Chopra, is
dualistic thinking that differentiates between a biological
organism and its environment. Instead, he says we and the
planet are one total being -- the trees are our lungs, the
rivers and waters are our circulation, the earth is our body.
So the more we pollute and destroy the environment the
bigger the impact will be on both our personal and extended
body.

life. He says every cell in our body is aware of what’s
happening in the rest of the body. Every cell has
acceptance. Every cell communes with every other cell and
has a memory of wholeness. Turns out this is what living a
spiritual life is all about.

How to Get Youngsters to Eat OrganicRaising Kids with Nutritional ValuesYou might call Jesse Cool an organic
crusader. She’s been a pioneer in
the world of organic cooking for 30 years. A prolific author
and owner of three San Francisco-area restaurants featuring
organic food, Jesse’s raised a family of her own and has no
illusions about the challenge of promoting a healthy diet in a
world of processed foods. Helping kids really connect with
healthy ingredients is something Jesse says is well worth the
effort.
Digestive Health for ChildrenThe Probiotic LifestyleProbiotics in recent years have
attracted growing interest for their
health benefits for both the digestive and immune systems in
adults and children. Dr. Asma Sadiq, Director of Child
Development at New York’s Beth Israel Hospital and an
integrative physician, and Dr. Robert Lee, Medical Director
of the Continuum Center for Health and Healing in New
York, say many inflammatory and autoimmune diseases are
greatly affected by gut flora, and probiotics are now much
more of the conversation, especially for children.
Vitamins for KidsDifferent Advice for Different AgesThe American Medical Association
currently recommends that every
adult in the U.S. takes a multi vitamin every day to help keep
them healthy. The issue of vitamins for youngsters,
however, has been much less clear-cut. Dr. Alan Greene,
Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the Stanford University
School of Medicine, and author of several child-rearing
books and a popular website for parents, says vitamin
supplements become increasingly important with the
discontinuation of breast milk, especially Vitamin D, DHA /
Omega-3 and calcium.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraOn Healthy AgingWhile getting old is nobody’s favorite
topic, Dr. Deepak Chopra says the
way we think about aging can actually affect our biological
age. He says we should learn to appreciate what is being
gained by the wisdom of experience. He also says that
biological markers of aging like blood pressure, bone
density, body temperature regulation, immune functions, skin
thickness, wrinkles, fat content, cardiovascular function, and
many other markers of aging are
actually quite flexible.

Staying Positive with Joan BorysenkoEmotional Fitness for a Joyful LifeResearch shows that people with a
positive outlook on life live up to 10
years longer than people whose primary outlook is negative.
But staying positive through life’s ups and downs is a lot
easier said than done, especially in difficult economic times.
Psychologist and healing Joan Borysenko is a prolific author
and a leader in the field of mind-body medicine, and Director
of mind-body clinical programs at two Harvard Medical
School teaching hospitals. She gives us the three skills of
Challenge, Control and Commitment as learnable
competencies of stress hardiness.
Echinacea for Immune HealthWhat the Latest Research Says About its EfficacyThere is conflicting information about
Echinacea in the media and amongst
the scientific community. According to a recent study by the
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
(NCCAM), Echinacea is found to have two very different
health benefits. The roots of Echinacea, when harvested in
the fall, yield alkylamides that can quickly reduce the
duration and severity of colds and respiratory problems. The
flowering tops, when harvested in the spring, release
polysaccarides that stimulate and boost the immune system
on an ongoing basis.
Health Benefits of Organic FoodUnderstanding the Scientific EvidenceDr. Alan Greene is a
pediatrician, a nationally-known author and an expert
on the growing body of scientific evidence about the true
value of organic foods. He says the health benefits of
organic is actually a pretty big issue, and it falls into two
categories: getting less of the bad stuff, and getting more of
the good stuff. Organic foods are grown without the use of
toxic synthetic pesticides, genetically modified seeds,
without cloning, without antibiotics, and without chemical
fertilizers. On the plus side, organic foods are shown to
have 25% more nutrients than conventional.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraOn Releasing Negative EnergyToxic feelings like anger and
resentment are more than just unpleasant; they can actually
be dangerous to our health. Dr. Deepak Chopra says toxic
emotions at the molecular level are as damaging as any
other toxin. In order to deal with these emotions, he says we
must take responsibility for our own emotions, witness the
emotion in our body, label it, and express it in non-toxic ways
such as journaling or therapy. The all-important final step is
to then release the toxic emotion let it go, ayour emotional
victory with someone you love who understands you.

Overcoming Our FearsTransforming Ourselves Through LoveDealing with fear is one the biggest
challenges almost all of us face.
Isha is an author and spiritual healer
who says the human experience comes down to choice. We
can choose fear, to feel like victims, or we can choose to be
masterful creators and choose love. Isha tells us about a
system of powerful statements called “facets” she developed
to help herself and others move from fear and doubt to love
and confidence.
Tomatoes Instead of StatinsA Natural Way to Reduce the Danger of Heart DiseaseWhen it comes to medications, two
out of the top three sellers in the
United States today are stain drugs. And that should be no
surprise because heart disease is a top killer in our country.
The statin drugs help prevent heart disease and help
normalize our cholesterol. But Dr. Alan Greene, a
distinguished physician, nationally known author and organic
nutrition expert, says that the nutrient lypocene, which is
found in tomatoes and many red and orange foods, was
even more effective than statins at similar doses.
10-Minute Tomato SauceHealthy Meals for the HeartChef Marlene Sorosky shows us how
to make a fresh and delicious 10-
minute tomato sauce from her
grandmother’s recipe. She brings together the flavors of
organic olive oil, pressed garlic, fresh basil and, of course,
lycopene rich tomatoes.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraOn the Power of IntentionIntention is one of the most powerful
forces in the universe. Dr. Deepak
Chopra tells us how we can focus that power on keeping
ourselves healthy. He says that if we want to heal ourselves
then first of all we have to have clarity of what our intended
outcome is. Then, when we have clarity of that intended
outcome in consciousness, we can enter into the field of
silence (such as meditation) so that the intention
orchestrates its own fulfillment.

Managing Change with Joan BorysenkoEmotional Fitness in Challenging TimesUnwanted change is an inescapable
part of life, whether it’s a health
challenge, a business problem, an unexpected move, or
even the loss of a loved one. Joan Borysenko is a renowned
scientist, clinician and teacher. She’s written extensively on
mind-body medicine and especially on how to approach
change as an invitation to empowerment instead of as a
threat. She gives us some tips for how to navigate the life
events we cannot control.
The Illusion of PermanenceSeeing the Perfection of Every Changing MomentFinding stability in a time of change
is a natural inclination of human beings. While there is an
upside to this tendency, author and spiritual teacher Isha
tells us about the importance of connecting to an inner
consciousness that can’t be shaken by external drama. She
tells us how take responsibility for our own happiness, to
focus primarily on love, and to vibrate in a frequency that
attracts what we need in our lives.
Nutrition SegmentOrganic OmeletteBreakfast at Jesse Cool’s house in
Palo Alto, California, often starts in
her amazing garden out back. A
prolific author, organic cooking expert and owner of three
restaurants in the San Francisco area, Jesse shows us how
to whip up a healthy vegetable and herb omelette to start
your day off right.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraThe Power of LoveWhat could be more potent than the
power of love? People say love
heals all wounds, but how it does that is a real mystery. Dr.
Deepak Chopra tells us that most people think of love as an
emotional sentiment, but that it’s much more than that.
Love, he says, is the knowingness and the experience of
inseparability of us as one being. Love has also been shown
to restore homeostasis, which is the body’s natural
inclination toward balance and healing.

The True Value of OrganicsProven Benefits of Organic Food and FarmingThere is a common myth that organic
food is for the elite, it’s a luxury item,
and in tough economic times it’s
something that should perhaps go by
the wayside. But Dr. Alan Greene, a nationally-known
author, clinical professor of pediatrics at Stanford University
and member of the board of directors of The Organic Center,
tells us that we need to think about our well-being from a
long-term perspective. Investing today in organic food and
farming, he says, helps us to stop borrowing against our
futures, both in terms of our personal health and the health
of the planet.
ColorpunctureThe New Frontier of Light MedicineAcupuncture is something many of us
are familiar with. Now there is a new
therapy called Colorpuncture that
uses the frequencies of light instead of needles to balance
our nervous system and stimulate chi. Two Colorpuncture
therapists show us what to expect during a treatment, which
usually includes the use of specific crystals and light wands.
Combined with Kirilian photography, Colorpuncture has been
shown to be an important tool to diagnose our energetic,
psychological and to some extent even our spiritual state of
being.
Nutrition Segment One-Pot Organic Pasta RecipeJesse Cool is an organic food
pioneer, prolific author and owner of

She shows us how to prepare an easy one-pot, seven-
ingredient, 10-minute pasta recipe to get any cooking
recluse back into the kitchen. With garden fresh ingredients
including cabbage, garlic and herbs, this is one cost-friendly
recipe you’ll want to have on-hand to please the taste buds
of your hungry family.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak Chopra On Emotional and Physical FlexibilityFlexibility is a critical component of
lifelong good health. Dr. Deepak
Chopra tells us that a healthy body is a flexible body. He
says cultivating a flexible consciousness is an important
underlying aspect of physical health, that if we’re rigid in our
consciousness, that will express its rigidity in our body
because the mind and body are inseparable. In addition to
physical disciplines like yoga, he says the ability to let go of
our rigid attachments to a specific outcome is one of the
healthiest things we can do for ourselves.

Are You Toxic?Whole Body CleanseAlmost all of us have to deal with
scores of toxins everyday. That’s
why an increasing number of health
professionals are recommending
that we periodically cleanse our bodies from the inside out.
Dr. Holly Lucille is a naturopathic physician and former
president of the California Naturopathic Association. She
tells us about how virtually everyone can benefit from giving
the body’s natural detox systems a boost with a regular
internal cleansing.
Nutrition TipSoyAbout two thirds of the fat
consumed by Americans –
vegetable oils or animal fats – is
soybean oil. And soy protein
isolated from soy meal is about 98% of what is fed to our
livestock. Soy is second only to corn in pesticide use in the
United States. Beyond this, soy leads the way in genetically
modified organisms. That’s why Dr. Alan Greene, a noted
pediatrician, author and organic food expert says switching
to organic soy is a significant step for reducing toxicity in our
diets.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraThe Third JesusDr. Deepak Chopra’s recent book
The Third Jesus deals with the
concept of enlightenment from a
whole new perspective. The first Jesus, he says, is the
historical Jesus, the Jesus of the Gospels and the Jesus
mentioned by the Roman historian, Josephus. The second
Jesus is the theological Jesus, the Jesus build up by
different sectors of the Church. The third Jesus, according
to Chopra, is a state of consciousness.

Better School FoodMoms Battle the Junk LunchAll across the country moms are
focusing on a problem that’s
affecting a huge percentage of our
kids: the epidemic of childhood
obesity. They’re advocating for a
better food environment wherever kids meet and eat, and
that includes childcare centers, preschools, K-12 schools,
after school programs and even summer camps. One result
is The Children’s Bill of Rights for Better School Food.
Family MealsThe Home Cooking Tradition Battles ExtinctionThe frantic pace of modern life
takes its toll on many of us in many
ways, and one of those is at the
dinner table every night. The family meal – that time-
honored tradition – is something of an endangered species.
Dr. Andrew Weil is a world-renowned pioneer in the field of
integrative medicine who believes that good health results
from a number of factors including home cooked organic
meals and strong family relationships.
Nutrition TipOrganic Baby FoodWhen it comes to meals with our
kids, it’s very important to start
them out with the healthiest foods
possible. Our organic nutrition
expert, Dr. Alan Greene, tells us that nutrient quality from
conventional agriculture is on the decline. He also explains
why parents don’t want over processed baby foods that
could lead to a taste for processed foods as a toddler and as
an older child. Plus, the EPA has determined that babies
are more vulnerable to chemical toxins than adults because
they consume more pound for pound.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraOn AncestorsDr. Deepak Chopra talks about how
knowing our ancestors is really the
activation of archetypal energies
embodied in the mythologies of our culture. Archetypes are
states of consciousness, and if we tap into them then that
state of consciousness directly affects our behaviors.
Inviting these states of consciousness to incarnate or
express through us, we then start to interact with people and
look at the world in a different way, one that taps into our
collective imagination.

Awakening Our Internal Pharmacy, Part IUsing the Five Senses in AyurvedaDr. David Simon, a distinguished
physician and author and medical
director of the Chopra Center, believes the most powerful
pharmacy on the planet is the human body. He says we can
awaken our internal pharmacy through the conscious use of
our five senses, a basic principle of Ayurveda. By being
attentive to what we’re hearing, how we’re being touched,
what we see, what we taste and what we smell, we can
awaken our internal healing chemistry that can treat a full
range of health disorders.
Nutrition TipAvocado and Chocolate? One thing most of us have to be
careful about is our sweet tooth,
that attraction to high calorie
goodies like sugar and chocolate.
That’s why we were happy to meet a fabulous chef in Hawaii
who’s developed a sweet and healthy desert with a secret
ingredient – avocados.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraYoga for HealthYoga is an important part of many
of our lives these days. It’s a great
way to get physical exercise, but it
can also have much more profound significance. Dr.
Deepak Chopra tells us that the deeper meaning of yoga is
“union with source” or with the ultimate spirit. Yoga postures
facilitate mind-body coordination and mind-body synthesis,
and brings about a natural balance in our bodies called
homeostasis.

remote places like the Amazon rainforest or the island of
Vanuatu in the South Pacific to bring the benefits of

Trace Minerals from the OceanThe Tasty Truth About Sea VeggiesExperts say the nutrient quality
from conventional agriculture is on
the decline. So some nutritionists now recommend that we
turn to one of our planet’s most abundant resources – the
ocean. But to reach our goal consuming nine servings of
fruit or vegetables day, several companies are now making
sea veggies as a dietary supplement in a capsule or liquid
form.
Nutrition TipPotato PowerMost of us make potatoes as a side
dish, but most of us don’t realize
potatoes are full of fiber and other
great nutrients. It turns out that
3,000 ORAC units are what we need to have good health,
and most Americans get about half of that. Russet potatoes,
for example, give use the daily ORAC units we need, which
is why Marlene Sorosky, an author of eight cookbooks,
shows us how to make a delicious twice-baked potato
everyone will enjoy.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraOur Connection to the PlanetOne mistake of modern science,
according to Dr. Deepak Chopra, is
dualistic thinking that differentiates between a biological
organism and its environment. Instead, he says we and the
planet are one total being -- the trees are our lungs, the
rivers and waters are our circulation, the earth is our body.
So the more we pollute and destroy the environment the
bigger the impact will be on both our personal and extended
body.

The Secret of HappinessWith Candace Pert, Ph.D.Dr. Candace Pert is a trailblazing
scientist whose work has centered
on neuropeptides released by our
brain. These biological
messengers communicate
constantly with every tissue, organ and part of our body.
That means our feelings are really chemicals that can either
help us or hurt us. Dr. Pert tells us that emotions are the key
to everything, including health and disease, which is why it is
so important to love and accept ourselves just as we are.
Natural DecongestantsSolving Sinus Problems Without Dangerous ChemicalsRoughly 40% of the general
population suffers from what are
called “environmental sensitivities.” Dealing with sinus
issues has become big business – almost $3 billion in sales
a year. But some products can leave its users drowsy or
anxious. Pharmacist Scott Berliner tells that many sinus
problems are chronic and people need a more holistic way to
bolster the immune system without the dangerous side-
effects. He tells us about several herbal and natural
remedies that fit the bill.
Nutrition TipSwitching to Organic CornChoosing organic corn means
skipping most conventional foods.
In fact, more than 4,000 U.S.
products contain corn as an
ingredient, and that doesn’t count all the corn used in
livestock production. More chemical fertilizers and
pesticides are used on corn than any other crop, and most
corn (over 50 million acres in the U.S.) is genetically
modified. Switching to organic corn, according to Dr. Alan
Greene, is not yet an easy thing to do, yet it could do
wonders for our health and our planet.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraListening to Our BodyThe best way to teach our body to
be healthy, according to Dr.
Deepak Chopra, is actually to listen
to it. Our body’s biological rhythms, he says, are the
symphony of the whole Universe. Just as our planet, our
bodies have circadian, seasonal, lunar and gravitational
rhythms. A body that is healthy is tuned into these rhythms,
which requires us to listen to our bodies as a microcosm of
the cosmic body.

Overcoming DepressionUnderstanding Your Non-Drug OptionsAnti-depressants are called the
treatment of choice by the
pharmaceutical companies and by
many of the physicians who
prescribe them. However, according to Dr. James Gordon, a
Harvard-educated psychiatrist and founder of the Center for
Mind-Body Medicine in Washington D.C., anti-depressants
should be considered a last resort. Dr. Gordon tells us about
the many different approaches that can help us rebound
from depressive episodes, including a seven-stage therapy
process that has yielded success with many of his patients.
Awakening Our Internal Pharmacy, Part IIThe Five Basic Elements in AyurvedaDr. David Simon, a distinguished
physician and author and medical
director of the Chopra Center, believes the most powerful
pharmacy on the planet is the human body. He says a
simple way to be present and to utilize the energy
information of our environment in order to awaken the
internal pharmacy is to connect with the five basic elements,
which in Ayurveda are known as space, air, fire, water and
earth. This helps us to harmonize our inner environment
with the outer, to integrate the body/mind with our spirit –
which awakens us to our innate healing potential.
Nutrition TipGreen Tea Chai FrappeGreen tea has powerful healing
properties, and top chef Renee
Loux shares her unique recipe for a
green tea chai frappe that could be
a great breakfast or dessert. She begins by making fresh
almond milk, then instead of adding water she adds green
tea – which is not only beautifying, but also rich in
antioxidants. She then adds some spices including chai,
cinnamon and ginger, then blends with ice and serves with
peppermint garnish.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraOn MeditationWe hear a lot about the benefits of
meditation, but many of us have a
hard time doing it. Dr. Deepak
Chopra encourages us to have no expectations when
meditating, to avoid thinking there’s a right way or wrong
way to do it. He suggests we begin our meditation practice
by just learning to sit for 15 or 20 minutes and simply
experience whatever we feel, including the restlessness and
all the body sensations. In fact, he says, learning to feel into
our emotions and body sensations is great pathway into
meditation!

effects. It turns out that of the different herbal remedies, the
only one that has good, documented efficacy is actually
black cohosh. We ask two experts who’ve come to

wisdom.
Chi RunningAligning With the Forces of NatureChris Griffin is a Master Instructor
of something called Chi Walking

movements of walking and running. Griffin gives us helpful
hints for improving our physical performance while avoiding
injuries. He also shows us how exercise can be a mindful
practice – bringing presence, awareness and intention –
capacities which can serve us in all areas of life.
Nutrition TipOrganic SmoothiesPowdered green supplements may
be good for us, but they don’t
always taste great. Marlene
Sorosky joins us in the Healing
Quest kitchen to make a power shake that packs a great
taste along side Maca and other healthy ingredients from the
Amazon rainforest. Add a little ice cream, sorbet or frozen
yogurt and turn it into a healthy dessert everyone will love.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraThe Law of Least EffortAccording to Dr. Deepak Chopra,
we in our culture have become
brainwashed to believe that hard
work, exacting plans and driving ambition is the way to
succeed. While it might be, by the time you get what you
want you may also have high blood pressure, you’re
addicted to drugs and your children have joined a gang. By
not always looking for a response about the future, or
regretting the past, Chopra says we accept the present
moment and the Universe begins providing us what we want
– with minimal effort.

Mission Organic 2010Promoting Organic Foods and FarmingWith the rise in organic foods, it
may be a surprise that U.S. organic
foods account for only 3 percent of
total sales. Increasing that percentage would have a huge
impact on all of us and the planet we all share. Mission
Organic 2010 is a movement that is aimed at increasing the
adoption of organics from the current 3 percent of overall
food sales to about 10 percent by 2010. We’ll check in with
James D. White, a senior executive with a growing organic
brand and board member of The Organic Center, to see how
the Mission Organic 2010 campaign is doing.
Nutrition TipThe Benefits of Drinking Organic MilkThere’s more to a glass of milk
than meets the eye. Dr. Alan
Greene suggests you choose
organic milk every time. A noted pediatrician, author and
board member of The Organic Center says hidden from view
is where the cow came from, the dairy where the cow was
milked, and the acres of cropland where the feed for the cow
was grown. When we’re buying a glass of conventional milk,
says Greene, we’re buying into a whole system of chemical
agriculture including antibiotics, synthetic hormones,
pesticides and genetically modified animal feed.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraThe Keys to a Joyful LifePeople think that if they had the
right relationship they’d be joyful. If
they had enough money, if they were in good health, then
they’d be joyful. According to Dr. Deepak Chopra, it’s
actually the other way around. If we’re happy to begin with,
then we’re more likely to be healthy and make healthy
choices, and we’re likely to have the right relationships and
more likely to be successful because we come from a place
of strength.

Integrative Medicine with Andrew WeilTransforming the Culture of Health CareDr. Andrew Weil has been helping
Americans take more control over
their health for three decades. In
the process he’s written numerous books and has become
an internationally known figure in the field of health care.
The goal of Dr. Weil’s transformation in health care is an
approach called integrative medicine. It’s an attempt to
broaden the scope of medical thinking and practice to look at
patients as whole persons, not just as symptoms, and to
integrate lifestyle choices in the pursuit of optimum well-
being.
Iyengar Yoga Natural treatment for breast cancer fatigueIyengar Yoga is a natural way for
breast cancer survivors to fight the
fatigue associated with treatment.
Iyengar Yoga is done through the use of different props.
This ensures that students are correctly holding poses for
optimum benefit. Instructor Beth Sternlieb, shows how
Iyengar Yoga heals the body and the mind for breast cancer
survivors.
Nutrition TipOrganic PotatoesWhen he was in medical school,
Dr. Alan Greene was taught that
potatoes are essentially empty
calories. But it turns out they can
be a nutritious, low-calorie high-fiber food with good
glycemic index, and that have important vitamins and
minerals and other phytonutrients we’re just beginning to
discover – including something called Oxygen Radical
Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) which creates a powerful anti-
aging affect.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraSpontaneous RemissionDr. Deepak Chopra reminds us that
all healing is grounded in a spiritual
experience. He says even the word healing is rooted in the
word holy. Chopra describes spontaneous remission as a
process that results from a complete loss of fear, combined
with an internal state of ecstasy or euphoria. Anchoring to a
healing image, he says, can also be a powerful aide in
bringing the body back to a state of homeostasis.

ProbioticsBeyond the Multi-VitaminSince 2002 the American Medical
Association has been
recommending that every adult in
the U.S. take a multi-vitamin every
day to help prevent chronic
disease. Now another all-natural supplement is attracting
intense scientific interest – probiotics. Some researchers
are even saying it could be even more essential that a multi-

power of music. Judy and Roy had the opportunity to take a
workshop led by Michael who helps participants discover
and create what he calls our personal healing song. We

connection to soul.
Nutrition TipOrganic ApplesResearchers say if American
women would just eat one apple a
day that could be enough to halt
the rise in breast cancer. Two
apples a day can drop cholesterol from 240 to just under
200! They key qualifier, according to Dr. Alan Greene, is
that we consume organic apples because they have higher
levels of all good polyphenols and phytonutrients.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraHealing SoundsDr. Deepak Chopra describes a
cultural tradition in which mothers
write a song for their babies and
sing the song throughout pregnancy. During the birthing
process, the village serenades the baby, and the song is
used repeatedly when as child grows and is initiated into the
different stages of life. Chopra explains this through a
concept called neuro-associated conditioning, in which the
nervous system anchors our emotional wellbeing to the
sound and vibration of the song.

Holistic Eye HealthExercises for the Ocular FitnessEvery second your brain receives 3
million messages, and of those 2
billion comes from your eyes! It’s
no wonder that since our eyes work
so hard that they can eventually encounter all kinds of
problems. Hardly anyone needs glasses when they are
born, yet two-thirds of the population wears glasses. Jacob
Liberman, an author and inventor trained in the science of
optometry, says the modern epidemic of vision problems is
the result of working indoors, and shows eye exercises that
can actually improve our eyesight.
Avoiding Colds and FluNatural StrategiesDr. Neil Schachter has heard
about every strategy in the book to
avoid colds and flu. He’s Director
of Respiratory Care at Mount Sinai
Hospital in New York and author of The Good Doctor’s
Guide to Colds and Flu. He says the first thing to realize is
that colds and flus are viral infections. Among the 200
viruses that have been identified there are now about
300,000 non-prescription cold remedies on the market. He
says most of these are aimed at dealing with the symptoms
of cold and flu, but says taking care of immune system is the
best way to help us get well and protect us from getting sick
again.
Nutrition TipResveratrol in Organic WineResveratrol is found naturally in its
highest levels in red grapes,
especially in red wine grapes, and
the amounts that are present in red
wine are actually high enough to make a different
medicinally. When tested, organic red wines averaged 32%
higher in resveratrol than conventional wines, and has been
shown to have anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and
anti-aging effects, as well as brain protective effects.
Drinking organic wines not only help us avoid nasty
chemicals, is also helps farm workers and their families.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraDealing With AddictionAddiction is the number one
disease of our civilization according
to Dr. Deepak Chopra, addiction to
toxic behavior, toxic substances, toxic relationships, toxic
environment – which all create a toxic body. Ayurveda sees
addiction as a second-class substitute for the exultation of
the spirit. Chopra’s approach at his medical clinic in
California is to actually give the person a sense of higher
ecstasy and pleasure than the one they remember from the
addictive substance.

Hawaiian Stress ManagementAn Indigenous Cultural PerspectiveWhen it comes to staying healthy,
dealing with stress is one of the
biggest challenges most of us face.
In fact, various studies show that up to 90% of all doctor
visits are due to stress-related complaints. Different cultures
have different ways of dealing with stress. According the
indigenous Hawaiian practitioners, stress takes us into a
place of being unbalanced. Integrated mind, body and spirit,
and the unification of yourself with all things around you, is
what they call what ho’oponopono.
Bone HealthBeyond CalciumCalcium’s been a hot health topic in
recent years because most of us
aren’t doing enough to keep our
bones in tip-top shape.
Unfortunately the answer’s not that simple because we now
know that consuming calcium and absorbing it are two very
different things. Now there is a new natural ingredient that
could be our new best friend – something called short-chain
fructooligosaccharides that’s been in use for 20 years in
various parts of the world, but is just now being introduced to
foods and drinks in the U.S.
Nutritional TipOrganic CatsupTurns out catsup has an important
nutrient called lycopene, and is one
of nature’s most powerful
antioxidants. In some studies it’s
been shown to prevent cardiovascular damage and cancer,
and helps to prevent and heal damage in our cells.
Tomatoes are one of the top 10 sources of lycopene in our
diets; more than 80% of our lycopene comes from tomatoes.
Researchers have recently discovered that on average
organic catsup has 57% more lycopene than its
counterparts, and double the total antioxidants – a big
nutritional difference.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraThe Healing Power of LaughterAs you might expect, the tears of
laughter have a completely
different chemistry than the tears of sorrow. According to Dr.
Deepak Chopra, you can’t be experiencing laughter and
have your ego in the same way at the same time because
the molecules of emotion secreted from laughter are very
different than the molecules you experience in ordinary or
depressed states of consciousness. These molecules of
emotion, called neuropeptides, have even been shown to
affect the activity of the immune system in a healthy
direction.

How To Talk To Your DocTips for Navigating the CAM SystemDr. Ronald Hoffman is a New York
City physician and nutritional
expert who’s thought a lot about
the relationship between doctor
and patient. He says you can’t expect every doctor to
embrace all aspects of complementary medicine, but at least
they should understand what that is and be open to it.
Hoffman says finding a physician committed to fully
engaging their patients in all the new health options isn’t
always easy but he does recommend one source – the
American College for the Advancement of Medicine.
Burning Calories in Your SleepThe Muscle Mass FactorIt’s typical for a person to be
burning somewhere between 1200
and 1700 calories per day just
because of the energy that it takes to maintain your body’s
normal functioning. One of the primary determinants of that
is how much lean tissue you have in your body, and the
largest lean tissue that most people have is muscle.
Researchers at Purdue University say you even burn
calories while you nap. In fact, your body burns about 10 to
15 calories an hour for every pound of muscle you have in
your body.
Nutrition TipOrganic Peanut ButterMore acres in the United States
are planed in peanuts than any
fruit or any vegetable or any nut.
According to the National Peanut
Board, peanut butter is the main use of peanuts in the United
States. About the time peanut allergies began to get more
common, many of us started thinking about peanut butter as
an overly sweet, high fat, unhealthy food. However, it’s
really the other ingredients in most conventional peanut
butters that are unhealthy, from corn syrup and
hydrogenated fats and pesticides.
Healing Wisdom with Deepak ChopraThe Biology of BeliefIt’s important that patients believe
the diagnosis from their doctor
because if they don’t, and the
diagnosis has been made accurately, then they’re not going
to get the right treatment. But according to Dr. Deepak
Chopra, believing in the diagnosis is not the same as
believing in the prognosis, because the prognosis of a
disease does not tell you about the outcome of that disease
in a particular person. He reminds us that our beliefs have a
powerful impact on our health outcomes and should not be
overlooked.
