ACERA’s Wellness InitiativeUsing health provider experience data and pilot programs, ACERA has been shaping communications to address areas of need for our retired members. Our current focus is on the prevention and treatment of diabetes, the chronic disease affecting the largest number of our retirees.

Nursing Care & Healthy Travel 11:15 - 12:00 | Kaiser & UnitedHealthcare

Need a nurse? Planning a trip? Your health care providers Kaiser and UnitedHealthcare have you covered. Whether you need a little extra care now or anticipate needing it in the future, presenters will explain their nursing plans and benefits. They’ll also tell you what to do if you get sick while traveling to another state or continent.

Open Enrollment2012 Plan Year

ACERA’s Open Enrollment period (which runs throughout November) gives retirees, eligible dependents, and COBRA participants the opportunity to enroll in a health plan or change medical, dental, or vision coverage for the upcoming plan year.

You will receive an Open Enrollment Packet in mid-October, containing your Retiree Annual Statement and Enrollment Guide. To enroll in a health plan or change coverage, download enrollment forms from www.acera.org, as enrollment forms will not be in your packet. If you’re not making changes, just read through the materials and keep them for reference.

Any changes you elect during Open Enrollment must be submitted to ACERA by December 1, 2011 and will be effective February 1, 2012. Dependent’s dental and vision cancellation requests during the Open Enrollment period will be effective February 1, 2012.

Preventing Identity Theft10:15 - 11:00 | 1st United Services Credit Union

Identity theft victimizes more the 10 million people and costs an estimated $5 billion to consumers a year. Attend this informative presentation on how to take steps to minimize the risk of such theft and fraud, while learning more about common schemes and how to report suspicious activity.

Wills, Trusts, & Powers of Attorney

Health Fair Seminars

“The Greatest Wealth is Health.” Virgil (70 - 19 BC)

12:15 - 1:15 | Marguerite Malloy, ACERA

Estate planning is for everyone. Wills, trusts, and powers of attorney are critical estate planning tools. ACERA Associate Counsel Marguerite M. Malloy will discuss how these documents affect your ACERA benefits. You will learn the purpose of these legal documents, how ACERA determines their legal sufficiency with regard to your retirement benefits, and what to consider before submitting these documents to ACERA. Come early because this presentation fills up quickly.

Prescription Co-pay ChangesPrescription co-pays for the newly renamed UnitedHealthcare Group Medicare Advantage Plan (former Secure Horizons) will increase from $7 to $10 for generic medications and increase from $14 to $20 for brand medications. This change allows ACERA to take advantage of a federal Affordable Care Act initiative that will lower medical costs by up to $1 million, and reduce the 9.0% ACERA member premium increase to 4.82%.

Provider Names ChangesThe Secure Horizons Medicare Complete Plan name will change to UnitedHealthcare Group Medicare Advantage Plan. The Pacificare SignatureValue HMO name will change to UnitedHealthcare SignatureValue HMO. UnitedHealthcare will issue new ID cards to members enrolled in these plans.

UnitedHealthcare Pharmacy Saver UnitedHealthcare participants can take advantage of the new Pharmacy Saver program. Members can purchase certain medications at participating pharmacies for as little as $2 for a 30-day supply. Visit www.unitedpharmacysaver.com for an interactive map of pharmacies and medications. No special card or enrollment is required, and this program does not jeopardize your enrollment in ACERA’s Medicare Part D Drug program.

VSP Glasses available at CostCo Effective February 1, 2012, ACERA’s VSP members can fill their prescription for glasses or contacts at CostCo, and CostCo will submit the claim paperwork to VSP for our members. VSP has expanded its relationship with other retailers, so check with retailers to see if you can receive our plan discount.

Get your eyes examined once every 12 months from a VSP provider—your eyes can show signs of other health conditions like diabetes, glaucoma, hypertension, and high cholesterol. In fact, last year 2,227 of our members had VSP eye exams, and more than 300 saw their value of being diagnosed for diabetes and hypertension.
