What is Healthy Beginnings?

Healthy Beginnings is a non-profit program that

provides free and accessible health and

developmental screenings to young children

Healthy Beginnings works to foster healthy

children and to prepare them for their school

years, healthy and prepared to learn

Who attends

Healthy Beginnings screenings?

Healthy Beginnings is open to all children ages birth

through five prior to entering kindergarten

All children in Deschutes County are eligible

whether or not they have insurance coverage or

are on the Oregon Health Plan

Parents accompany their children and are

encouraged to ask questions and gather the

educational materials available

“My five year old daughter, Ashley, attended a Healthy Beginnings screening and was referred to Early Intervention and qualified for speech therapy. She was

then much better prepared and ready for kindergarten. What a difference this has made in her life! We are so grateful for all the help Healthy Beginnings and

others have given to Ashley and to our family. I hope other families gain as much as we have from this wonderful program.” —- Kathie Spencer

What will I learn at a

Healthy Beginnings screening?

The assessments are designed to provide

parents with the knowledge that their children are

physically healthy and are developing

appropriately for their age

The screening identifies children who are

developmentally delayed or needing additional

medical attention

If concerns are identified, appropriate referrals are

provided

Parents are provided with training, information,

local resources and support

What areas of Health and

Development are tested or

discussed?

Where do I find

a Healthy Beginnings Screening?

Our screenings rotate throughout the year in the

communities of Bend, Redmond, La Pine,

Sunriver-Three Rivers and Sisters.

Please call for an appointment.
