Page 2: Hearing God (part 3)

“Of course God is alive, we just talked”

1. Open yourself to spiritual experiences. 2. Be baptized of the Holy Spirit & the gift of tongues.

5. Attract God’s revelation

Page 3: Hearing God (part 3)

1. Purify the flow

Ezekiel 14:4-5 (NIV) 4 Therefore speak to them and tell them, 'This is what

the Sovereign Lord says: When any Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked stumbling block

before his face and then goes to a prophet, I the Lord will answer him myself in keeping with his great

idolatry. 5 I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted me for their

idols.'

2. Keep it simple … listen for the whispers

Matthew 11:25 (NIV)“At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You,

Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and

have revealed them to babes.”

1 Kings 19:11-12 (NIV) 11 The Lord said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass

by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12

After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

1 Kings 19:12 (NKJV) …. and after the fire a still small voice.

1. Like your own thoughts - except you sense them coming from your heart (spontaneous): not brain

(cognitive/analytical)

2. Come easily as God speaking in 1st person.

3. Often light and gentle: Easily cut off by any exertion of self.

4. Unusual content - be wiser, more loving, more motive oriented than yours.

5. Cause a reaction inside - excitement, conviction, faith, life, awe, peace.

6. When embraced - strength and joy.

3. Obey what you know & give away what you receive

John 7:17 (NIV)17 If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I

speak on my own.

4. Learn the lost art of biblical ‘meditation’.

Psalm 77:66 I remembered my songs in the night. My heart

mused and my spirit inquired (NIV)

“I call to remembrance my song in the night; I will meditate within my heart, and my spirit makes

diligent search.” (NASB)

5. Position your heart in faith & hope

2 Corinthians 4:4 (NIV)4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of

unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

6. Acquire a Kingdom heart.

Proverbs 14:6 (NASB77)6 … knowledge is easy to him who has understanding.

Page 12: Hearing God (part 3)

7. Give God your nights.

Song of Songs 5:2 (NIV) 2 I slept but my heart was awake. ….

Job 33:15-16 (NASB77)

15 "In a dream, a vision of the night, When sound sleep falls on men, While they slumber in their beds, 16 Then He opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction,

8. Be a friend of God.

John 15:15 (NIV) 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called

you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Page 14: Hearing God (part 3)

Isaiah 64:4 (NIV) 4 Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear

has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for

him.
