Exeter is the regional capital for culture, leisure and shopping and is a beautiful city steeped in more than 2,000 years of history. It has a magnificent cathedral, Historic Quayside and fascinating attractions, including unique Medieval Underground Passages, a Roman Wall and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery which has just re-opened after a multi-million pound redevelopment. Guided walking tours and coach commentaries of the city operate daily with Exeter’s Red Coat Guides and can be booked in advance and tailored to meet your group’s needs.

Exeter is surprisingly compact and its attractions are all within easy walking distance of each other. You can also enjoy exclusive shopping in Exeter’s distinctive quarters – head to the award winning multi-million pound Princesshay shopping quarter for designer fashions and top High Street names. Or for independent boutiques, jewellers, art and craft shops, visit the unique Castle Quarter and West Quarter. A visit to the Historic Quayside is a must see. Enjoy a river cruise, a cycle ride along the canal or hire a canoe to paddle to Double Locks.

The Heart of Devon marks the gateway to the Jurassic Coast, a dramatic stretch of coastline which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Charting 185 million years of earth’s history, the Jurassic Coast stretches for 95 miles along the East Devon and Dorset coast.

For avid walkers, there are miles of coastal footpaths to explore, including the South West Coast Path national trail. A number of circular walks have been developed, departing from coastal towns and villages of varying difficulty. Groups can stop off at some of the many fishing villages along the way, and discover a fascinating history of smuggling, lace making and fishing.

Unique attractions to visit along the coast include the heritage tramway at Seaton, the award-winning miniature steam railway at Pecorama in Beer and Beer Quarry Caves, or take a scenic coastal cruise with Stuart Line Cruises along the Jurassic Coast.

For a traditional British seaside town, look no further than Exmouth and Sidmouth in East Devon, or Dawlish in South Devon. Popular with groups for their wonderful beaches, great attractions and group-friendly hotels, these towns make a great base from which groups can explore the region.

Much of the Heart of Devon is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is internationally recognised for its wildlife, most notably its birdlife.

Here the landscape varies dramatically, from the rocky tors of Dartmoor, to the rolling Blackdown Hills and vast swathes of heathland on Woodbury Common.

For walking groups, the choice of walks is endless. Popular longer routes include the East Devon Way, Exe Valley Way, the Two Counties Way and the Devonshire Heartland Way.

Whether you want a quiet gentle stroll or an exhilarating mountain biking experience, there’s something for all groups at Haldon Forest Park. Just 15 minutes from Exeter, the park is home to themed walking trails, Go Ape high-wire adventure and The Centre for Contemporary Art & The Natural World.

Within the Heart of Devon’s countryside, groups are spoilt for choice for attractions to visit. Top attractions include The Donkey Sanctuary, Escot Gardens, Maze & Forest Adventure, Tiverton Castle and several historical National Trust properties, including Killerton and Knightshayes Court.
