“Pain in the chest without other symptoms may be overcome by a few drops of spirits of ammonia …. If the pain is agonizing, the face pale or bluish, and covered with cold sweat, give repeatedly small amounts of straight brandy or whisky. Put the patient in a comfortable position, apply repeatedly very hot applications to the heart, eventually around the arms and feet, and a cool compress to the head.”

WOMEN’s HEART HEALTH PROGRAMHeart Shaped Community

• Mercy / Dignity Health Heart & Vascular Institute program has a longstanding history of recognizing the unique heart health needs of women

• Purpose has been to raise awareness and change the perception of women’s risk for cardiovascular disease in concert with AHA’s focus and Red Dress campaign

• Increased focused efforts after publication of 2011 AHA Women’s Prevention and Risk Factors for CV Disease – new risk factors specific for women

• Women’s Advisory Council formed to develop focus areas, promote the importance of a women’s role in the overall multi-generational health of her family and social circle, and have fun and inspiring events and educational venues.

• Focused topics are:• Movement/Activity • Nutrition • Stress Reduction • Hands-Only CPR

• Provide a grass roots support and philanthropy opportunities for the Mercy Women’s Heart Shaped Community and outreach functions

I’ve observed many woman neglect their own health while caring for others. That was true for me, until I had my own health crisis--cancer--which was my wake up call. Now, I'm on a mission to make sure I take care of this body and mind. This was an inspiring, informative setting within which I could say, "I need to get informed and take charge of my own health.“

I will be making life style changes due to this event. Thank you.

As I mentioned earlier, we enjoy attending these events. Always good to learn and be aware about common issues (and reminding us that our health begins with me). I appreciate Dignity Health providing these opportunities. Thank you very much!

I like it all… just the right time in my life to take notice of what’s good for me.

The atrial fibrillation presentation was excellent. I loved that the Drwas able to discuss something so complex in a way that it could be understood by all. It was definitely an eye opener and will change some of the things I do.

Jack Gallagher was hilarious. I have to admit, I thought the senior stuff cracked me up. More importantly, I found the information presented by the doctors to be very informative. Will ask appropriate questions when I see my doctor next for my annual five minute exam.

As a result of this event, I'm going to ask my doctor to refer me for a PAD work up. I definitely have the symptoms.
