Metromed International Cardiac Centre (MICC) is the first and the largest exclusive Cardiac Speciality Hospital in Kerala, with 200 beds entirely dedicated to heart care. Metromed International Cardiac Centre is an ultra-modern

cardiac care with 200 beds. We have 2 coronary care units

and 2 post-operative ICUs with total 50 beds dedicated for

critical care. Two state of the art Cathlabs are set to perform

all Cardiac Interventions in adults and children. OT Complex

with 5 operation suites are built with international standards,

with HEPA filters and laminar flow to avoid infections. MICC

is capable of performing the most complex cardiac surgeries

including heart transplant. The proficiency, precision and skill of

our cardiac services demonstrate the quality of heart care par

with international standards. We aspire to lead and continue to

Cardiovascular and thoracic department is the destination for comprehensive cardiac surgical care, where experience and innovation yield exceptional results.

Interventional cardiology is a subspecialty of Cardiology in which catheter-based diagnostic tests and treatments are provided for Coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, peripheral vascular disease and various other diseases. Interventional cardiologists use tiny catheters which are inserted into the arm, leg or neck and are then threaded through arteries or veins to the heart or other regions in the body. In addition to the traditional access site in the femoral artery in the region, interventional cardiologists at MICC are very experienced in using radial artery approach in the wrist. This approach makes the procedures safer, and is less likely to result in bleeding complications. It allows patients to walk immediately after their procedure rather than needing to remain lying down for hours.

CORONARY CARE UNITSThere are two well equiped coronary care units, both well equipped with all moders.Facilities to take care of all cardiac emergencies under the supervision ofexperienced doctors and paramedical team.

MICC offers effective and comprehensive care to patients who are diagnosed with abnormal heart rhythms, syncope and Heart failure. We offer a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including non pharmacologic, curative catheter ablation procedures for all types of supra-ventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, non-invasive risk stratification for arrhythmia, device implantation and renal de-nervation therapy.

Innovative and result oriented Rehab Programmes of MICC include exercise training, educating the patient on healthy living and counselling to reduce stress that help to return to an active life as early as possible after a cardiac surgery.

Cardiac rehabilitation programme at MICC helps the patient to• Recover after a heart attack or heart surgery.• Significantly reduce the incidence of future hospital stays, heart problems, and death related to heart problems.• Address risk factors that can lead to coronary heart diseases and other heart problems. CARDIAC REHABILITATION

THE THREAT• Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world irrespective of caste, creed and culture. • Studies prove that India is going to be the capital of cardiovascular diseases, along with diabetes, in the world.• Alarmingly, in India, Kerala (especially Malabar region) has the highest density of people with heart diseases.

IS IT PREVENTABLE? For several years, it is believed that heart diseases occur in older people. But in thecurrent scenario, heart diseases are quite common in young adult, mainly because of sedentary life style and unhealthy eating habits. Heart disease takes years to progress and may begin to develop at very young age. Hence it is 90% preventable. Most people do not show any symptoms of heart disease before they reach their 50’s or 60’s. Lack of awareness and ignorance, coupled with insufficient medical facilities, further pushed up the cases of heart diseases across the globe. Hence it is the “need of the hour” to prevent it before causing much debacle.
