with many translation functions. Araya is

operating system independent through

Java. Araya is available for Linux, So-

laris™, Unix and obviously Windows™. It

The Araya XLIFF editor is a sim-

ply to use translation editor. It

contains all important features of a pro-

fessional translation tool and exhibits two

outstanding characteristics which differ-

entiates it from other translation tools:

� It supports all languages without re-

striction in combination or in the direc-

tion of translation including all double-

byte and bi-directional languages.

� It is compatible with the OASIS XLIFF

standard. This means 100% support of

all processes within localization.

� The TMX conform translation memory

data base permits the re-use of transla-

tions done in previous translation cy-

cles. Simultaneous use of translation

data bases makes it possible for trans-

lators to co-operate in groups and to

share translations with others immedi-

� Integrated editor supports direct edit-

ing of entries in the TM data base.

� Conversion of document for different

formats such as HTML, RTF, XML,

SGML, OpenOffice, doc, docx and plain-

text through configuration files.

� It supports all databases with a JDBC

interface. It comes with an internal

database, thus no need to buy a data-

base license.

The Araya TMX editor is a highly

sophisticated tool for creating

and maintaining TM data bases and files

based on the TMX standard. It facilitates

the maintenance of TM data bases for

linguists, localization and documentation

managers, communication enterprise

specialists and for everyone, who partici-

pates in the maintenance of global infor-

mation.

� The alignment tool offers support of the

following file formats: HTML, XML,

SGML, RTF, plain text, OpenOffice, docx

and doc format. Thus the translator can

convert already translated documents

in different languages into re-usable

TM data bases and TMX files.

� The editor supports the regular mainte-

nance of TMX conformant TM data

bases, e.g. correction of translation

errors, maintaining enterprise wide

glossaries or performing stylistic

changes.

� The TMX editor supports all languages

in all combinations.

� The user can add new languages to

TMX files without having to go through

the whole translation cycle.

Araya can be integrated through

XML-RPC support without heavy

efforts into existing processes. Araya is

started as server and makes its services

available to other applications - e.g. docu-

ment management systems such as Sir-

ius of Acolada™. Command files are

supported too. By the use of XML, XLIFF

and TMX the Araya server is optimally

prepared to integrate and co-operate with

other systems.

In addition there is Tomcat based web

server version available.

TMX stands for translation memory exchange and is a provider

independent, open standard for storing and exchanging of

translation memories in XML, provided by CAT tools (computer

aided translation). TMX supports the exchange of translation

memory data between programs and/or translators without

losing data in this process. TMX was developed on initiative of

the OSCAR (Open Standard for Container/Content Allowing re-

use) committee - an interest group of in LISA (Localization In-

dustry Standard Association).

Translation MEMORY (TM): translation technology, which re-

uses existing translations of segments (sentences, paragraphs

or phrases) of previously translated documents using fuzzy

search to find matching segments.

XLIFF (XML Localization Interchange file format) is an open

XML based standard, which was developed to support the ex-

change of localization information, in particular for document

formats of different manufacturers. XLIFF is based on XML.

Heartsome Europe GmbH was founded

in 2002. Founder and director, Dr.

Klemens Waldhör, is familiar with

translation technology and CAT tools

since a long time. His experiences stem

from his time in the research labs of TA

Triumph Adler and as founder and di-

rector of EP Electronic Publish Partners

GmbH. Under his guidance the transla-

tion support system EURAMIS was de-

veloped for the translation service of

the European Commission. Later this

development was used by Sun Micro-

system as SunTrans. Based on this

experiences he developed the transla-

tion support system Araya

The core competence of Heartsome is

the customized adoption of Araya ac-

cording to customer needs. In an inten-

sive consulting phase the customer

requirements are determined and opti-

mized, Araya configured and integrated

into the processes of the customer .
