HEAT-RESISTANT MATERIAL SERIES
L O S S N A - B O A R DHigh-performance heat insulatingboard which displays the excellentcharacteristics on any condition.
●Excellent heat resistance.●Outstanding dimensional stability.●Superior resistance to compression.●Compressive creep characteristics which minimize
deformation due to continuous use for a long time.●High-grade arc resistance.
While general heat insulating materials withstandtemperatures approximately 200゚C, LOSSNA-BOARD, high-performance heat insulating material, insulates continuouslyeven at a temperature of 400゚C. Stable insulation can beattained in any heated area such as electric furnaces and dryingovens for which any conventional heat insulating material isused.LOSSNA-BOARD also has outstanding“Dimensional stability”.Today, high accuracy is required in every field of industry.LOSSNA-BOARD is highly reliable heat insulating material thatminimizes thermal expansion and deformation due to pressurestrain and continuous use. Excellent performance has beenproven in every industrial field as an insulating material for high-temperature and high-precision forming machines for superengineering plastics, IC components, vibration-proofing rubber, and oil seal components.

Lightweight and heat insulation produce profitability. NikkoKasei has been paying attention to economics brought on bylightweight materials. It has been our subject of research for along time. We manufacture lightweight heat-resistant boardwithout sacrificing heat retaining properties, insulation or heatresistance.
KALLYTE, is half the weight of conventional laminatedmaterials. Although it has the heat resistance, insulationperformance and durability equal to other laminated materials,we have developed a lightweight energy efficient heat retaininginsulation therefore, reducing kinetic energy cost. Having beenhighly evaluated for its lightweightand insulating properties,KALLYTE EGL is standard material on“Nozomi”and any othernext generation Super-express trains in Japan. KALLYTE IGL isexpected to be widely used for side panel heat-retainingmaterial for diecasting and insulation material for machine toolsbecause of its excellent heat-resistance, high-strength heat-retaining/insulating and lightweight properties.

HEAT-RESISTANT MATERIAL
What is heat insulating materials?“Heat insulating material”means a material to insulate heat literally. Utilization of heat insulating
material is spreading over various fields from ultra-low temperature applications(-253℃)of usingliquid hydrogen for fuel to high temperature applications(above 2,000℃)that of nuclear reactors. Why do such various fields demand heat insulating materials? It is because the safety andproductivity improved by the heat insulating materials are necessary for today’s industry. It iswidely recognized that remarkable economic results, improvement of product accuracy as well asproductivity, reduction of energy cost on the production line, comfortable working environmentand minimization of deformation which are all attributed to heat insulation. An increasing numberof industries are expecting more effective heat insulating materials and are taking a great interestin them.
1Types of heat insulating materialsThere are three types of heat insulating materials, i.e.,
solid, liquid and gas, and each of them has uniquecharacteristics. Solid heat insulating materials havevarious types of products that have been developedbased on various materials. As shown in Figure-1, theseproducts are classified as“organic material”,“i n o r g a n i cm a t e r i al”a nd“combined material”composed of organicand inorganic materials. Generally ,“o r g a n ic”h e a t -insulating materials have an advantage in workability andcost, but have problems in durability at hightemperatures. On the other hand,“i n o r g a n ic”h e a tinsulating material is excellent in heat-resistance andstrength, but it tends to be costly.
Nikko Kasei has been conducting diversified andmultilateral researches on heat-insulating materials for along time and pushing forward the development of morepowerful and effective non-asbestos heating insulatingmaterials.
2 Selection and processing of heat insulating materialsIn general, materials are examined by comparing physical characteristics shown in catalogs issued by manufacturers.
However, measuring methods of physical characteristics are not standard and, therefore, the values stated in the catalogscannot be directly compared in many cases. For example, a value of thermal conductivity varies greatly depending on themeasurement method. To avoid troubles in selecting materials, it is highly recommended to consult with manufacturersand processors over and over again.
In most cases, heat-insulating materials are made into flat plate and therefore, cutting, drilling, milling, tapping andpolishing works are required for practical use.The dust generated in the process of such works sometimes causesenvironmental problems. Though Nikko’s products do not contain any harmful asbestos, it is advisable to ask materialprocessors to handle the processing works. The processors authorized by us control the dust and finish up the work withprecise craftsmanship. For further information on authorized processors, please contact our dealers or our head officedirectly.

Notes on transportation
Install a local ventilator in places where fine chips maybe produced upon processing.Put on any protector to protect yourself from finechips dispersed upon processing. When you complete your work or leave your workingarea, remove the fine chips from your protector andclothes, and be sure to gargle.

2.
1.For heavy materials, use a suitable transportationequipment and handle with care.
Take necessary measures to prevent fine chips from dispersing. For disposal of cut pieces and fine chips, follow your governmental/local rules and regulations and request a qualified industrial wastetreatment contractor.
